The 1960s ads gave us a terrific group of successful voiceovers: Rex Marshall, Dick Tufeld, Don Morrow, Gerald Mohr, Gary Merrill, Peter Thomas, Bob Warren, Art Fleming,Mason Adams, Stan Sawyer, Fred Collins, Verne Smith,Paul Frees, Norman Rose, Phil Tonken,Jackson Beck and Mel Brandt.
I get so fascinated watching these old commercials. It always makes me wonder about what life was like back when these aired? How many households watched these commercials and connected with them? How did they come up with commercials like this to sell these products? Did they buy into it or were they critical of it like now?
As a toddler in 1963 I remember standing up, holding onto the coffee table with huge glass ashtrays with a bunch of smoldering cigarettes, I loved the smell
0:21 - Dick Tufeld on the voiceover in the ad for the Sunbeam electric razor. He also does the voiceover in the Pollyanna spot at 20:14.* 4:24 - Bert Parks for Van Heusen men's sport shirts. 6:24 - Former Dodgers announcer Red Barber for Gulf gasoline. 7:24 - Ann Starr Roberts as Katy Winters for Secret deodorant, back in the days when it wasn't just for women. 14:45 - Art Fleming of Jeopardy! for Derma-Fresh lotion. 21:45 - Thurl Ravenscroft as Tony the Tiger for Kellogg's Frosted Flakes. 22:14 - Peter Marshall from Hollywood Squares for Kellogg's Variety cereal assortment. 23:46 - Alan Napier for Fact toothpaste, in a Batman & Robin promo poster tie-in. *Correction on the 20:14 Pollyanna spot: Dick Wesson. Looks like I lacked Wessonality...
@@markcornish2519 , precisely! I'm 60, but I'm not in failing health, and if I were, who wants to see that doom and gloom whilst watching The Andy Griffin show 🤦🏽♀️
These ads take my back to my childhood, when the world seemed wonderful.
We all are here because like me
We all miss the good old days ! It’s nice to daydream ‘ nothing will ever compare to those days ❤

Don't forget Hank Simms.
And yes, Hank Simms. Thank you.
I was born in 1961 and remember most of these commercials, especially the PF Flyers ones 😃

I was born in 1962 and I remember some of these ads but not to many of them.
The ads were three minutes every 15 minutes. Like clockwork. Now the ads are every five minutes for five minutes.
Yes, and it's annoying, lol.
Alka-Seltzer on ice? Only in the 60's.
Thank you!!!!!!!!! 💟☮️
How can I get them on dvd?
Looks more like nighttime commercials than daytime. I know Alfred Hitchcock never ran in daytime during its original network run.
Very nice!

Dad's BABYSITTING!?!!😁
That made me make a face lol The rest of that commercial was adorable tho.

The "Pollyanna" spot is v/o'ed by Dick Wesson, the voice of many Disney films from 1954-79.
@@armorybrunotjr.3204 You're probably right. Sounds a tad similar though.
Thanks so much for the info!
Another commenter and I have gone back and forth over the subtle distinctions between Tufeld and Wesson. How can you tell the difference?
@@zaq55 Not sure, but I don't believe Tufeld ever did voiceover work for Disney. It's mostly pronunciation differences.
Zeppelin actually riped off this beer for one of their emblems? More creativity than I gave the boys credit for.
I used touch of magic but not on my shoes 😎
I don’t watch tv anymore because I hate the depressing commercials they show now.
Especially if you are watching something old! They think you want to see Medicare commercials and all the medication commercials

Do they still make Dentyne? I bet I was one of the few kids that liked Cinnamon gum.
Yes! It's called Dentyne Fire.
@25:25 - Is that Olan Soule getting saved?
When lawyers were allowed to advertise, it messed things up
