This is something EVERYONE SHOULD practice in a calm lake, the more you practice this the better you will get at it. Practice this with a friend or 2 near by, after a few times you will KNOW exactly what to do and you will NOT PANIC! Thank you for thIs DEMONSTRATION.
Because of this video Iam confident enough to buy a Tuctec kayak. Thank u for making this video and dispelling alot of scare tactics and bad information.. If u do ur part this is a safe and stabile kayak as intended and designed for calm waters. I think the having the PFD is key here as well as the using the bucket .. Thank u again :)
I love my TT - but found mine sinking in the fast flowing river at night when I tipped (my fault). Watching your video I think if my boat didn’t have a bunch of stuff in it that got water logged and weighed down it may have floated. With that being said- I was lucky for the life vest I wore and the three girls that went with me, 2 of whom it took to make sure didn’t fully sink and drag across the river. Life Vest people and don’t go alone…
Thanks for this video. On my hard shell sea kayak I have learned to crawl back in from deep water but I was unsure if the tuctec would even float if full of water. What a relief it was to watch this video! I will practice this move in shallow water near shore.
Got a 2021 that should deliver any day now, just UPS delays. Anyway, I really appreciate seeing this, even if it's not the same model it's great to see a demonstration of the capabilities and limits this thing has, and I have to say it's looking better than I expected. Thanks a lot for the demonstration.
This is done pretty well! Glad you are using a PFD, even in the pool. The Tucktec does not have any inherent flotation, like a bulkhead or large foam inserts at bow/stern, so I recommend using kayak-specific float bags which will keep the boat very buoyant. They will also displace water, so bailing becomes easier and no pre-bailing might be needed, depending on paddler size. Remember, when there's a capsize, the water conditions may be rough, so practicing the maneuver to re-enter should be done in a safe, calm environment. And always paddle with others!
As a cheap alternative, you can also just use beach balls! Place them in the bow and stern and inflate to fit. Bonus: you can play with them when you pull over for lunch and a swim!
Fantastic video. You covered all of the necessary safety things associated with kayaking. You also could use a syphon pump to get the water out. I keep one in my kayak.
Hey Lori, thanks for the reply. I do own and did use a bilge pump during my testing. It’s really not a viable solution for the scenario. You can really only effectively use the bilge pump when you’re sitting in a kayak. With this particular kayak once it is swamped you will not be able to re-enter until you have already bailed out the boat. Hence the need for the bucket.
Thanks for this great video, once I get a #Tucktec I will definitely practice this and make sure everyone kayaking with me practices this. #Tucktec2023
It appears doable in a warm and calm water. But the way this kayak behavies and how much effort is needed to bail and re-enter does not entice me to get one. Thank you for posting.
This happened to me in my tucktec when I was in the ocean. The tucktec filled with water and I swear it started to sink but maybe I was just panicking. Also my seat floated away and I had to go get it . I ended up pushing it back to shore and then emptying the water and re launching. Thanks for this video ! I will practice doing this. I hate that there is no drain hole. Maybe they will figure that out. I hate taking a bucket with me every time I go kayaking.

The premise of a siphon involves the water at the intake being higher than the exit. Unfortunately, the water level inside of the kayak is nearly identical to the external water level.
I am thinking of getting an origami vessel. This was very helpful. I was concerned about the safety and getting back in the boat. Just looking at the concept...I wonder if would work to have an aquarium water siphon hooked to the side along with the bucket and lights as part of a safety package? Maybe include a flare gun for those who are like me...In my care I carry a seatbelt cutter and glass shattering hammer along with a roadside emergency kit with flares...oh and I have an emergency survival blanket in there too.
@@michaelbinetti5560 You should be able to kick and simultaneously push up vigorously to break the seal, partially drain, and flip the kayak in one motion.
Hi, any news on 2021 models. They seem to have changed the seat again so it clips to the spars. Also what's the deal with Xplore 1 as it appears to be on sale under licence?!
I wasn't sure why, when it was upside down, you couldn't just lift it up overhead at arm's length above you and quickly flip it over in the air; then no water would get it in when it landed back on the water...
The one thing I don’t understand you’re doing a voice over why is there playing in the background to the point where I can barely hear you does it make sense
Why not sit in kayak filled with water? As it won't sink anyway with water plus human weight on it. Then bucket water out easily while sitting stable in the kayak.
Nice effort, but not real world situation since you are standing on the bottom of the pool. Hope to see this done with a bit of wind, waves, and deep water.
@@DavidCantatore I know. I was on the side of the island where there were no waves. However , the reason I tipped over was because the wind picked up and the ocean got really choppy so you are right .

Fast flowing river? at night? Definitely outside any recommended usage
Wow! Thank you for the detail and work you put into this video. I am seriously considering a tucktec, and this makes me feel a lot safer!

It does have some due to: 1) it’s material composition 2) the foam side rails and seat.
As an update, I addressed the use of flotation bags in my newer video of the 2021 kindle Tucktec

If you’re looking specifically for an open water kayak, this is not for you.
Excellent video, really helpful! Thank you.
Stupid question.. with all these folds in the kayak what keeps it waterproof/tight? They never start to leak???
The folds cover themselves so nothing is open to the water getting in.

Once you’re to shore you can simply open either end of the kayak and let the water flow out.
@@michaelbinetti5560 I faced the same issue. I pulled it outside and opened it up to get rid of the water.
Ocean? Brave...I thought the warning is to use in calm mirror water..
You can carry a bilge pump; many kayakers do.

Would a siphon hose work? If so it would be less work.

Bilge hand-pumps work well.

Thank you!!
Awesome! It looks like you need to be in shape. Was it easy to hold straight up and balance?
There's also a tecnique where from the start you swim under vessel and push up from directly underneath before flipping it to get more water out .
Thought about it but it’s tough as the kayak forms a little suction seal when laying flat in the water surface

Your extra weight will push the kayak WELL below the surface of the water. You can see this in my other video for the 2021 model
I'd probably be inclined to just hang onto the side and swim for shore with it.
Nice effort, but not real world situation since you are standing on the bottom of the pool. Hope to see this done with a bit of wind, waves, and deep water.
If you had actually watched the video you'd know he purposely didn't touch the bottom to simulate being in deep water.
@@DavidCantatore yes, I actually watched the video. Open and deep water is a whole different game and betting you have zero experience.
@@DavidCantatore still doesn’t matter. Real world rescue in a lake or ocean would still be different and would be nice to see.
