That’s some good advice on ware to look I know well about the stars and the planets I used to live in the UK and observe the stars well I no longer live there so I noticed Ven is now visible in the early twilight I know that in the UK it’s more lower down cause it gets dark later
i have a great view, last night was one of the best ive seen in a while between the times of 2am until around 5am, just at naked eye view, i have seen things that i had no answer to what they were over the years,
I didn't realize that Mars was near M35 because it's really low at about midnight just coming up and I think that the atmospheric thickness would make it difficult to pick out M35.But it's really nice watching Jupiter and Mars rising over the see.With M1 I've seen it with my Viking 10x42 monocular when I have been to dark places but it's just a misty patch.
Personally i think the GRS may just be sinking somewhat. Rather than shrinking. It's only an opinion so nothing to back it up. We'll just have to wait and see. This year it'll be in a good spot for trying for a full rotation animation. Hoping to improve on my best at 9 hours 20 minutes or so.
Had a look at the Saturn Nebula last night for the 1st time and it was the 2nd time that evening that I’d thought that a name suited the subject. Used a UHC filter and at 100x it looked like Saturn did a few years back when the rings were wider
Im guessing the reason the great red spot is getting smaller has to do with that comet that broke apart and fell in the atmosphere. The comet came in 94 and scientists started noticing the storm getting smaller in 95. And stuff like that can impact the weather the atmosphere, look what it does here. Even a volcano can impact the weather and cause the atmosphere to reflect sunlight back into space and can cause an ice age. There were huge holes or scars that were visible on Jupiter that lasted for weeks so if it can do that maybe it can affect the great red spot by changing the chemistry of the atmosphere as well.
