Lifelong Motorcycle mechanic and collector of all things two wheeled here- The brass jet you cant get out is the PILOT jet, it effect Idle and low throttle mixture The idle adjustment you referred to is supposed to have a short chunk of what looks like the inner wire of a Speedo Cable going to it, and Knob mounted on the other end so you can remotely adjust the idle, yours is broke off - Someone has been monkeying around with the wires going to the keyswitch because Suzuki Always has a 4-wire molex style plug (usually bright green) on them, I can see a bunch of Crimp Butt connectors? You'd have been better off using ATF as shock oil- Did you do a Compression check, because when you spin the starter it sounds SUPER low for a DR350? Should be 85-115 ish much less than that it wont run at all- Those bikes cleaned up and running, (with Title) would sell around here for $2,500-$3.500 range, That Aftermarket Desert-Racer Gast Tank is cool, I have a DR650 here with the big tank as well, I would think you could afford to throw a new carb on it, and still not be upside down in the value? Check the Valve adjustment, Modern bikes beat the valves up into the head as they wear (from Unleaded gas) and the valves Tighten up over time, and this will eventually kill the seats and lower compression also! Nice find man! Keep us Updated!
Thanks for the info! I did find a bunch of crimp-on connectors, they're actually bullet style ones. Looks like someone hacked into the harness pretty good. I did not do a compression test, the plug is 10mm and I don't have the adapter, but I was thinking I should check the valves. I'll do that next time I have the tank off. I went ahead and ordered the carb, do you happen to know a good source for the seals and stuff for the rear shock? I haven't played with bikes a whole lot, so I'm just guessing at suppliers.
The verbal description of the potential sequence of hazardous events by using a too small wire from the battery to test if all electronic and mechanical systems will work…was wordsmith masterful. I love how you humorously explain things.
You have to keep it I need to see you get this bike back in the road I am in the UK and own a kick start dr350 Watching you has given me hope of getting mine back on the road Nice video
like you said you've been wanting one for 30 years, and they aren't cheap either which if you decided to sell it, it might be hard finding another one down the road for a decent price. Lastly theres no denying the bike needs some work, but the things that it needs your the perfect guy for the job to fix it right.
*- Agreed. He wanted one when it was too expensive. Got it now...and for a little money can make it better than new...and will regret selling it on top of all that...So...FIX IT TO TOP NOTCH, with Dirt Version carburetor, and a full and proper rebuild on the shock, please.*
I don't know you can get them pretty cheap, the parts can get expensive though and a lot of the bigger parts are discontinued. I just got one for less than $200 but it needs a top end and has been sitting for years.
Another amazing video! You're a regular MacGyver! Sometimes there's viewers out there that can help with parts. God only knows there's a lot of bikes out there! Thanks again!
Fixing bits someone fcked up on a bike is so daunting, so few resources out there even on popular bikes. Much respect, I've been loving your channel. So few mechanic videos aren't a chore I have to deal with to get by, yours I watch for pleasure and learn more than focused vids about things I'm working on. Keep on keeping on low buck, you're a real one.
Very interesting, I like that you explain what you are doing in i easy manner. You have som kind of unique relaxed way of doing your videos. Keep up the good spirit. Greetings from Sweden! 😊
I had a Suzuki race bike, and deleted the ign switch. I replaced it with a DPST toggle switch. Labelled On and Not On. Used an equipment push button for the starter. Best mod ever!
I would love to see more videos about this, im just restoring my dad old dr350 that i have grown up looking at, perty sure it sat for most of it life, a few years ago we cleaned the carb and it rode but now im gona do an overall to get it back on the road. This video did help on the motivation factor😁
The guy who sold it sounds like a real fine brother to have,🙄, IDK how some people can live with themselves, but good-job on getting it running tho,👍, and thanks for sharing.
LBG nice, ive had a DR650 recently traded it for a XR600 but I also just picked up a 2009 XT250 bought it cheap just working on it now hasnt run in years I looked all over for a DR350 that fuel tank is the bomb! Love your channel and the similar low buck mindset thanks!
Always so calm and collected whatever problem you encounter👍🙂 If you ever wanted to sell the bike at a later date, a new carburetor would surely appeal to more buyers as many finds them difficult to work on. And a dirt carb really would give you the opportunity to give the bike good spank like the surroundings seems to invite to.
As always another Great video. Really enjoy your channel. Found you by chance an immediately subscribed and been binge watching all of your videos.really appreciate the hard work you put into your channel it shows. Thank you!!
I’m impressed you are one hot mechanic I have a dr 350 electric start model when I bought it I was told don’t Touch the throttle when starting. I would be tempted to put a new carb on drs in England make really good money Looking forward to seeing more videos
To remove the cap from the nitrogen bottle, instead of pulling it, push it. With two fingers on the cap, with your other hand add a little air pressure. It'll pop right into your hand. The "two fingers" are to prevent the cap from gaining velocity & "popping" across the room.
I've got 2 DR350's, they are cracking bikes, both have CV carbs and run great, I owned a dirt version with the std slide carb and there was no difference in power, if you can sort the cv carb out it will work fine. I rebuilt the shocks on both my bikes, simple and cheap, I have 60,000 miles on my one DR and it still starts and run's great, solid and dependable bikes.
Go buy one MX-Style carb and you will love this bike! They are fun little dirt bikes with good torque! Even if its a used one carb...qhat you can do to make it run better: just run it wide open throttle and just squirt some brake fluid in the open intake....yes it will smoke like hell BUT you will clean up the jets and the valves in one step 🙂 If the bike has been stored a long time and didnt run properly before that the valvetrain might be "gummed" up and would need that treatment.
On my dirtbag budget dirt bikes, I like to drill a little hole in the oil cap, up by the handle bars, and put a cheapy 1" diameter kitchen thermometer in it. Protected by the tank and the handle bars, and for $2.99, you can have a steam gauge oil temp that you can read on the fly.
Lots of fun to watch, and brings back memories of when us old guys were young and fearless. LOL Anybody got an old carb sitting around that would get this old suzuki scooting?
Your intake/spacer issue was more than likely a mikuni tm33 pumper carb conversion. The spacer is needed to push the tm33 back far enough so the air mixture screw isn’t jammed up against the starter. The mixture screw knob attaches to the bowl screw with a bracket. A spring connects the knob to the mixture screw in the carb. Anywho, cool video.
Good thing it wasn't a Kawasaki, since you were wanting to get away from working on heavy stuff! I had a Kawasaki, and it said right there on the tag that it was made by "Kawasaki Heavy Industries".
I'd change the carb and ride it for awhile put a little t.l.c into it keep it. Paint it like one of the half tracks and put a small camper on back of the halftrack and the motorcycle can be at the very back. So when u camp cam take off on the bike and ride. Would be so epic of a build.
I have a DR250s 1993 Japan version. I had a problem with the carb too. My carb is not the original, my DR has a 34mm GN250 carb. I had to set the fuel level and I had to reduce the spark gap from 0.85mm to 0.5mm and I set the pilot screw.. The engine starting much better.
*He wanted one when it was too expensive. Got it now...and for a little money can make it better than new...and will regret selling it on top of all that...So...FIX IT TO TOP NOTCH, James, with Dirt Version carburetor, and a full and proper rebuild on the shock, please.*
Yeah give it a little candy carb sweets, then you can take it on a real ride.those bikes make great daul-purpose bikes because they got enough cc,s to keep up to traffic but also shine on the back trails as well.ive gotten a klr-650 and only rode it once its just too tall and heavy.gonna try to lower forks n doglegs see if i can then reach ground.if i can than the wieght is only a problem sitting still.once moving its not an issue.you can always flip it once you get the shocks fixed.snookie pa.
Check the valve clearance. My fourwheeler was running the same way. Didn't want to start when cold but would fire right up when warmed up. Would cut out when giving it gas. A new carb didn't help.
Looks like maybe it had a tm33 on it because ot the small intake boot and spacer. The throttle pull is different on te tm33 also. I have the take off bst in my parts bin. I think these bikes are highly sensitive to changes in airflow and jetting. That exhaust seems like it needs repacking. I'd check the valve clearances. That carb may just be worn out. Close up the airbox if you can. There is a mod that involves cutting the boot that goes around the shock to increase airflow. Your boot looked modified and taped. Mine was way way difficult to start and ran like poop with an old bst carb and no airbox.
You would have fun on that in the desert. Could you find a used carb for it ? Dont have to be new, or is that price for a used carb. An ultrasonic cleaner could sort the carb out if you have one. :) Make it a good bike. looks worth it really.
With the undersized carb it should get better fuel mileage! What ever you do, don't pull out in front of oncoming traffic. You'll know how a turtle feels during a cattle stampede!
I never found a good method of checking it, the manual wasn't clear and the internet wisdom was all over the place. I added a little, it still wasn't on the stick, then it was way overfull, I'm not sure how these dry sump systems are supposed to work. There was definitely some oil in the system when I drove it. I'll change it, add the right amount, then ignore it.
It was on the bike when I got it, so I'm not sure where it came from. There were a ton of old Acerbis parts on the bike, so it make have come from them back in the day.

Definitely pop for a new carb. Then you can add the bike to the collection of toys you have. Break it out now and again and have a blast with it!
I reckon the cheapest fix at this point would be drill out the main jet, well done on getting her going mate.
It's always a good night when you get to enjoy Low Buck Garage and a ice cold adult beverage.
Two hundred for a new carb sounds reasonable to me. Love your videos, thanks again.
Glad you like them!
Only channel where i hit the like button before even watching and never disappointed.......spend the $250 and keep it.
Go for it. That is a great bike. I mean in general. That one clearly needs work.
You have to keep it
I need to see you get this bike back in the road
I am in the UK and own a kick start dr350
Watching you has given me hope of getting mine back on the road
Nice video

Hi, sell some junk and get a carb. Many thanks for all your uploads. From Nr Liverpool UK.
I REALLY MISS MY DR350SE!!!!! Best all around bike I ever had. I would have to recommend the Mikuni pumper carb. Sweet bike!

..You’ll attract a lot more new viewers with doing a carb upgrade & such on this and keeping w/ DR350 vid titles.
Great & fun work as always. 👍
I can't believe you got that bike started with those Mankey parts but congratulations you got yourself a dirt bike for cheap
Very interesting, I like that you explain what you are doing in i easy manner. You have som kind of unique relaxed way of doing your videos. Keep up the good spirit. Greetings from Sweden! 😊
A good addition to the fleet. Fix it up please.
Great Break Project. Fix the damn thing(Right) and Keep it and have fun or sell it for 3-4 times for what you paid for it!
I had a Suzuki race bike, and deleted the ign switch. I replaced it with a DPST toggle switch. Labelled On and Not On. Used an equipment push button for the starter. Best mod ever!
Really enjoyed your dry sense of humor.
Great content. Dr350 is a perfect size for street and dirt. Thanks for all the effort making these awesome videos!
$200 of solid fun if she runs good. And definitely added value if you don’t get stranded.
Highly underrated tuber. You deserve 500k+ subs. I say fix it. Itd be good content
that's a genius wiring tip that I never even thought of
Love your desert dry sense of humor. Keep up the good work and great attitude.
This is the exact bike I’m trying to buy!! great video!!
I gotta be honest . I laughed pretty good when you bounced the bike like a pogo stick. Earned a new subscriber. Great video
Get that thing in good shape and take it wheeling with us!
LBG,
You are very knowledgeable man. I do enjoy your content and video quality. 👍
Thanks, I appreciate that!
Definitely keep working on the bike!

Well you never told us that you worked for a Suzuki dealership , great job.
Nice one, owned DR's for many years, 2 runners currently, and done much spannering!
Man those bikes are indestructible. I thought for sure something was going to fail. I want one of those bikes so freaking bad.
New subscriber. Enjoying your videos. Very funny too.
Hi James I had a DR400 in the early 90's I remember the dangling electrical boxes
Great job saving this old bike!
Excellent ! Been waiting for a new video from you mate ... Ive watched al of your videos so a new one is awesome . Cheers .
*- Really good way to deliver the "Like and Subscribe" bit...I had forgotten to do the "Like"...again ! ! !*

Touch the throttle when starting. I would be tempted to put a new carb on drs in England make really good money
Looking forward to seeing more videos
see if you can fix the shock properly. if so its worth the $200 new carb for a fun dirt bike.
Bills boneyard in SLC Utah is a massive bike junk yard he'll have a replacement. He has an entire wall of shocks for all older bikes of àll models
Reminds me of my 86 DT200. Need to put a new ring in and try to get it ridable this year.
To remove the cap from the nitrogen bottle, instead of pulling it, push it. With two fingers on the cap, with your other hand add a little air pressure. It'll pop right into your hand.
The "two fingers" are to prevent the cap from gaining velocity & "popping" across the room.

You're right, unfortunately I learned that afterward. I got it right eventually in part 2!
Love your channel.
I learned a few things today. Thanks

Invest money so you'll a nice dirt to play with, if I remember a coil break down can cause failure once an engine gets warm, just a thought.
good vid bud, kinda leanin the way of the new carb ider myself
I just love your commentary 😂😂😂😂😂
Thanks!
Hay low buck you don't have to much in it but time get the carb fix it and have a blast with it and then sell it!!!
*He wanted one when it was too expensive. Got it now...and for a little money can make it better than new...and will regret selling it on top of all that...So...FIX IT TO TOP NOTCH, James, with Dirt Version carburetor, and a full and proper rebuild on the shock, please.*
Keep it I would, but I can ride any more
DO THE WORK yes for sure fix it up then send it ( to me ) would love one to tinker in the shed with 😀
That's Heavy, Man. 😎😜
the taillight got to me 🤣

Treat yourself and fix her up.👍🏻
Check the valve clearance. My fourwheeler was running the same way. Didn't want to start when cold but would fire right up when warmed up. Would cut out when giving it gas. A new carb didn't help.
I will definitely do that!
maybe try an aftermarket carb for a suzuki eiger 400cc they run $50 bucks on amazon
Looks like maybe it had a tm33 on it because ot the small intake boot and spacer. The throttle pull is different on te tm33 also. I have the take off bst in my parts bin. Awesome!
A friend has had few of those , generally they have a great suspension. I'd like to find one myself. eBay parts time !!
You would have fun on that in the desert. Could you find a used carb for it ? Dont have to be new, or is that price for a used carb.
An ultrasonic cleaner could sort the carb out if you have one. :) Make it a good bike. looks worth it really.
New carb !, then do it in the dirt on 👌
With the undersized carb it should get better fuel mileage!
What ever you do, don't pull out in front of oncoming traffic.
You'll know how a turtle feels during a cattle stampede!
Please do work on the bike and keep it
Yip. Make it right and get 30 more years out of it. With some cash and a bit of work it’s a winner. And you’ll get the investment back 2X
What about the engine oil ? Glad you have it working.
I never found a good method of checking it, the manual wasn't clear and the internet wisdom was all over the place. I added a little, it still wasn't on the stick, then it was way overfull, I'm not sure how these dry sump systems are supposed to work. There was definitely some oil in the system when I drove it. @@LowBuckGarage I cannot help you on that either. I was assuming it was a 2 cycle and did not see any Smokey exhaust.
You can get a kit with a carb, cdi, reg and probably key switch for 20 buks
I like the rear fender plate mount. Looks homemade. If it isn’t, can you tell me where you got it? Thanks!
It was on the bike when I got it, so I'm not sure where it came from. There were a ton of old Acerbis parts on the bike, so it make have come from them back in the day.
Great !
try to fix it, please...😀
Might find a good carb for it at 223 cycles
Of course you have to keep the bike. I say try to find a used carb and rebuild it the low buck garage way. Maybe a comparable carb to retrofit. A dirt bike is way too much fun to get rid of. You said you’ve waited 30 years for that bike
👍
i bought a dr350 and it needs a carb the cheapest i found was $450 hop you fix it drs are good all around bikes i have a xt350 think the dr is way better
Is that bike straight ⛽gas,or is it mixed 🤔
Four stroke straight gas
Put a jeep carb on it!
CDI box will make a Honda 4 wheeler run like that. I don’t know if it’s the same on that bike.
Your intuition is spot on!
Hey man, great work, (y) why don't u open a Patreon where we can donate money for the builds to help with the cost a bit. Hope you can fully rebuild it
Thank you, I sure appreciate the thought! The views and shares are really helping out; I'll get this bike up and running pretty soon.
Yeah make it nice!
I would fix it up with at least a new carb and play with it for awhile then sell it. But that is just the way I would like too roll.
