I love Peak and their customer service is also super friendly when I've had questions. The food quality is evident; it's not loaded with fillers, and that means it also doesn't have a ton of false flavors.
Just an update --- thought I would thank you for turning us on to this brand! I have been less than satisfied with Mountain House so I was willing to try these. Wow! We just had the chicken & rice one on Saturday and LOVED it. It tastes like real food and it uses only 1 cup of water to prepare which is huge here in NM. We don't always have a water source daily on our trips, so we have to conserve water so finding a meal that uses half the water PLUS tastes great is AWESOME. It also makes enough for 2 people which is perfect for us to share. Thank you thank you thank you!
Awesome!
I'm glad that I'm not the only backpacker who's always pleasantly surprised by how caloric Peak Refuel's meals are.
8:18 YES, YOU SHOULD LOL. Great video!
Great highlight of a great local product to us. I recently started buying these instead of the other brands because of the quality and flavor. They are more money but they are WAY worth it to me. I guess as I get older I tend to not worry about the cost as much as I do the quality. These are great! Taking less water for hydrating the meal is a definite perk and bonus. BTW, Cal-Ranch has a great price for these. I bought a bunch from there plus more using your code online too. Great stuff. Have a great day.
Thanks for sharing the code! That makes Peak highly competitive with Mountain House at local outfitters.
Awesome, going to need to try those for sure. I like the fact that they need less water. Thanks
I absolutely love these meals. I had the Chicken Alfredo Pasta one for the first time recently, and I was blown away.
I agree with everything said in this video. I am a recent convert but the key thing that you mentioned is “I feel good after eating them.” Just tried the Beef Stroganoff Saturday and loved it. Can’t wait to try these new meals. I won’t ever go back to the other brands unless it’s all I have. Thanks for making this video.
The Stroganoff is sooooo good! In my top 3 of the meals for sure!
Can you divide the larger packages into two meals in a freezer bag?
Absolutely!
That's what I've been doing AFTER discovering I didn't have the capacity to eat all the food in an entire foil pouch in one meal. As a normal routine, I open the foil pouches at home, carefully weigh out 2 equal portions, pour the portion into 1qt FREEZER ziplock baggies. When I'm ready to eat I boil water in a 750ml Titanium cup, insert the cup& boiling water into a self-made Koozie, pour the meal out of the ziplock baggie & into the cup of boiling water, put the cup's cover on the cup, wait 15 minutes; I then have a HOT HOT meal good to the last sporkful. Those foil pouches dissipate too much heat & the food at the bottom of the pouch is barely lukewarm by the time I get to it + my hands & spork is messy with food. I use a short foldup spork to eat my food out of my 750ml cup. No problem getting my hand/spork messy with food.
Excellent! Thanks!
Peak Refuel sent me a notification that my order has shipped on Tuesday, which was the 6th Business day from the day I placed my order online. Orders normally ship between 3-7 Business Days from time order is placed.
My recent order was 4 business days.
I am just getting into the Peak Refuel meals. They are FANTASTIC!! We just tried the chicken pasta Alfredo this weekend!! My daughter LOVED it. My wife would be into the biscuits and gravy!! I am going to wear out that coupon code!!!
Awesome!
Have you rec'd your order of meals? Have you even rec'd a confirmation that they've been shipped?
Devin you and Dan Becker got me on the Peak Refuel train I only buy them now 👌👍
Could not get the BCE15 discount to work at all☹️
It should be fixed and working now.
Thank you
Peak breakfast skillet is really good, and is 2 legit servings. My son and I split a bag and made breakfast burritos last weekend.
Though that one takes 2 cups of water.
I do the same thing. Each portion requires 8oz of water.
Ordered a few things, especially excited about the B&G's!!!! Thanks for that lil discount too Devin.
Hope I spelled your name correctly i see other people spelling it this way.
If I could find a meal that comes in a self cooking pouch that would be great. Does Peak have this feature? No cooking over a stove, just pour water in them and in ten minutes they are full cooked. I like Mountain House for this reason.
Yes, the Peak Refuel bags are food safe, and meant for pouring boiling water into for you to rehydrate the meal. This is the best way to “cook” a peak meal.
Can't say I have tried Peak Refuel.... I have tried a couple others and MH is so far may favorite.
Try the beef pasta marinara if you give it a go👍🏼
The new flavors look intriguing... I just bought some Peak Refuels for an upcoming trip and I'm looking forward to trying. I love the high calorie / protein content so hopefully I dig the taste.
Yeah you’ll enjoy them! What flavors did you get?
@@BackcountryExposure Breakfeast Skillet, Strawberry Granola, Pork & Rice, and Beef Stroganoff(of course).
Have you rec'd the meals or even rec'd confirmations the meals have shipped?
This was nice to see & hear your feedback - I’ve considered trying peak but the cost compared to mtn house was holding me back. That & I get mtn house at 4 different stores within 5-10 mins of my house. However, after hear in g how you guys don’t feel overly stuffed after eating them, I’m going to give them a try.
I love that they make a granola with a milk substitute and one with milk. Their Italian flavors are really good. Its worth a couple extra bucks. The coconut curry is delicious! I am still hungry after Mountain House and Backpacker's Gourmet. My least favorite is Readywise Meals. They have so little taste after the last time I ate one I went for a Covid 19 test.
Thats biscuits and gravy is where its at. Looking forward to trying it out
Get ya some!!!
I agree about sometimes too much food for one person. They should have a single serving size.
Be careful what you wish for. Mountain House has reduced the quantity of food in their pouches by approximately 1/3 with the new packaging, yet the pouches are still selling for the same price.
If you ordered any of the new meals have you received the meals or even received confirmation the meals have been shipped?
I placed an order @0628 on 6 April. I've still NOT rec'd any confirmation that the meals have shipped. PR websites state meals will "normally" ship 3-7 BUSINESS days after the order has been placed which seems like a very non-commital, lackadaisical, devil-couldn't-care-less attitude & corporate policy toward filling their customer's orders.
There is no mention of the new meals being "Out of Stock".
My order for 3 Biscuits & Sausage Gravy was delivered today, 8 Business Days AFTER I placed my order
Schill Brother's need to try that Biscuits and Gravy. They love that stuff! I wish more freeze dried companies did the smaller, single serving meals. Having to split the meals ahead of time is really annoying. Does PEAK offer any rehydrating advice on making these at higher elevations? I don't see anything on their website.
I would think the amount of water to re-hydrate would remain constant regardless of altitude. It will take "more time" for water to boil, at higher elevations, not more water.
Nice job. I have been looking for an alternative to Mountain House and you convinced me to try these. FYI - your discount code doesn't work on the 3 new flavors, only the others.
Ah shoot! I will look into that for the code. Thanks for sharing, and watching!
I had the same problem. I ordered 3 Biscuits & Gravy & got no discount when I placed my order on 6 April
These are the best tasting meals and they are my choice for the most part, but I wish that PEAK used organic ingredients.
Their meals are delicious, take very little water and are calorie dense but do not find them filling. Given the caloric contrnt this surprises me. I have to eat additionsl items with the ones tried to date. BP Pantry fill me up for similar or less calories listed.
The amount of water required to make these meals is incredible ! They should make single serving meals. I bet the chicken curry is good!
Yeah, the funny thing is that some of the meals are plenty of food as a single serving, while others are packed and when split are more single serving.
A single serving meal? What's that? A single serving varies from person to person. I normally open the food pouches at home & weigh out 2 equal portions of food, put them in 1 qt Freezer ziplock baggies. That is just right for MEeee. It may not be enough for you or others.
What gloves are you wearing?
A glove made by outdoor designs. They unfortunately aren’t made any more...
Chicken pesto is real good and yeh I split mountain houses a lot too but they are good peak is probably my favorite right now because like anything verity is important I will even throw an MRE in now and again.
Great video brother! I love peak refuel!
Thanks!
Just curious, why is their shelf life so much shorter than other similar brands? Most freeze dried is 20-30 yes it seems?
My understanding is just the simple fact that there’s way less preservatives and soy type fillers in the meals. Real meat and just quality ingredients.
@@BackcountryExposure Thank you!
They haven’t been around long enough as a company to get the 30 year lab certifications YET….But I’m sure the longer they are around, the longer their shelf life will be.
If I choose a freeze dried meal (I've found none worth the money and few I'm willing to eat twice) it's Peok. Having said that this southern boy is stoked on the biscuits and gravy and I will grab it on my next REI run.
I just checked. As of now, the Reno store doesn't have any of the 3 new meals on the shelves nor are they available from REI online.
Still not available on the shelves of REI stores & no one knows if or when the new meals will be stocked.
I will never pay that amounts of money for a friggin freeze-dried meal when backpacking. This is crazy.
Certainly you can spend less money for food you take backpacking. Knorr sides and ramen, or even fresh options. So you do you, but within the industry of food like this, $10-$14 is pretty standard.
Peak Refuel meals cost a lot less for more nutritional value than you'll ever get when you go buy a FAT PILL (Bacon Cheeseburger with fries) at any fast-food franchise. Think about that. You'll part with a $15.00 bill most any time you buy much of anything at any fast-food franchise - talk about being EXPENSIVE & all you get is a little protein with lots of salt, fat, or sugar.
@@BackcountryExposure Peak Refuel, nutritional meals are less expensive than most people spend everytime they buy anything from a fast-food franchise.
Throw that back into the face of anyone who bellyaches about the cost of Peak Refuel meals.
@@lakorai2 When a person is physically active, the body needs more salt & fat. Granted, it is unhealthy for a with a sedentary lifestyle like having a job sitting in front of a computer or sitting in a call center answering phones all day. People that work in call centers have obviously been eating themselves into obesity & diabetes most of their adult life. Same with computer programmers, same with most fat, overweight Americans. Eating unhealthy is the American way of life. Warm Regards from Reno, Nevada & I was born an American so I know whereof I speak.
I definitely prefer Peak Refuel Meals to other brands, however, there is so much food in the pouches I normally open the pouches at home, weigh out 2 equal portions of the Freeze Dried Food, put them in 1 qt Freezer ziplock baggies, label the baggies with the meal & how much water I need to add. When I'm out hiking & ready to eat, I boil water in my cup, pour the meal into the cup of boiling water, then reinsert the food/cup into a homemade Koozie & wait for it to rehydrate. The Koozie retains the heat & I'm able to enjoy a HOT HOT meal right down to the last sporkful. In my experience, too much heat is lost in the foil pouches that the food comes in & the last of the meal is barely lukewarm.
1/2 portions equate to a 10oz-12oz of food/water which leaves me comfortably full.
Right on! I've been doing the same in my recent trips to take less food but still get the calories that I need to stay fueled.
Biscuits & Gravy - 1100 calories!; I'll definitely split a pouch into at least 2 equal portions. I'm also thinking of dividing it up into 4 equal portions. 1/4 pouch portion of B&G in one cup & 1/2 pouch portion of Breakfast Skillet in another cup & lace the Breakfast Skillet with some pre-cooked slices of bacon. Bacon & eggs + a small 1/4 portion of B&G = 5-Star Meal served at your own 5-Star restaurant. Actually, a 1/4 portion of B&G would likely be excellent with a 1/2 portion of most any PR meals. I've got a feeling PR will be SOLD out of their B&G meal by tomorrow.
Glad that you have found a good brand of freeze dried food
It seems to be a good solution for you
.
What I have been doing for years is that I developed the method when away from home is to mostly buy in supermarkets
When I am hiking locally, I bring my dehydrated food from the house
Generally, I cook my supper as lentils and grains, and dehydrated tuna, lunch as Gerry tubes of peanut butter and crackers and noshing on dried fruits and nuts and breakfast as oats with dried milk, ground nuts
This fits in to my dietary needs kosher, diabetic and vegetarian
Each to their own, and I am pleased with what works for me
I tried the chicken alfredo for the first time and it was delicious!
Cut the bags in half and reuse the bags!! I reuse the bags from mountain house anyways!
being an ambassador to peak you can't say nothing negative about them - so there's really nothing you can say to convince me what you say is true and by the very low likes i'm not the only one
Yup just over here blowing smoke. Ugh, comments like this are ridiculous.
Sad they don’t sell them in EU...
Young USA company that's still growing. I imagine they will eventually be available in EU.
I tried two of them both of them taste like burnt rubber , I’ll stick with mountain house
23g of Sat Fat (115% of daily recommended) in a serving of Biscuits and Sausage. Wish they were more healthy.
So you’re saying with MH, you can split it for 2 meals at $10 a bag, since you feel “uncomfortably full” trying to eat a full MH meal as one person? What you’re really saying is that’s $5 a meal with MH even with MH increasing their cost. But PR at $13 for 1 meal and feeling “comfortably full” is a better deal? Not taking sides on which is better, MH vs PR, but you’re sponsorship bias does the rest of us no favors.
Peak refuel is delicious. I'm eating a chicken and broccoli one as I type this comment.
Beef stro peak refuel is my favorite hands down
In my top 3 too!
Pueden comer dos personas?
Looks like this is more an ad than info. It would have been with a includes ad sticker on.
I 100% prefaced the video explaining that I am an ambassador for Peak Refuel and that it may sound like an advertisement because of that.
Devin did RIGHT with his disclaimer at the beginning.
I find eating with my mouth full is more satisficing.
Why didn’t you at least show us what it looked liked cooked?
EXPENSIVE.... sorry for yelling, but yeah expensive
Not necessarily... $10-$13 is pretty standard for entree meals from any of the popular food brands. Mtn House, Pack It Gourmet, Backpackers Pantry, Good To Go, etc, ALL have meals in the $10-$13 price point.
I used to think this too, and I still agree when compared to stuff like Ramen and Knorr type products you can get at a 10th of the cost at your local supermarket. But next to other convenience brands already mentioned, this stuff seems to be a fair deal. Factor in the lesser water needed, which means less fuel needed, which leads to some money savings over time there. Add on Devin's discount code and that will also bring the cost down to be neck and neck with an average Mountain House. Still, it's not the kind of backpacking meal I can afford for every meal on all my trips, but it's certainly a brand I enjoy eating for a luxury, almost restaurant quality, convenience meal every now and then and worth the occasional "splurge" in my opinion.
Going out cost $10-$13 a meal anyways.
Peak Refuel meals cost a lot less for more nutritional value than you'll ever get when you go buy a Bacon Cheeseburger with fries at any fast-food franchise. Think about that. You'll part with a $15.00 bill most any time you buy much of anything at any fast-food franchise - talk about being EXPENSIVE & all you get is a little protein with lots of salt, fat, or sugar.
@@brendanprice3432 My thoughts, exactly!
I gave the Alfredo and chili Mac a try based on your recommendation. Sorry to say I hated it! Followed the instructions exactly. The Alfredo didn’t reconstitute properly, resulting in crunchy chicken. But otherwise it was really good. The beef chili Mac though was absolutely terrible. Horrible flavor, not reconstituted probably, totally inedible even with Tabasco. Glad I tried it in my living room before I was on a trip. Sticking to pack it gourmet.
Geez, sorry it was such a terrible experience, which I feel is an exaggeration, but good thing there are other options out there.
Man I wish it was an exaggeration, I love all your videos and follow you pretty closely. I really wanted to like these, but man...maybe I got a bad batch or something
You must have money to burn to be buying that stuff. But then again camping/backpacking is really a rich man's endeavor.
🙄🙄 a rich man’s endeavor? Not true at all.
@@BackcountryExposure well as far as taking off work and going to exotic locations and buying expensive gear and food.
Sweet Pork & Rice baby. Highly smashable.
You SHOULD eat with your mouth full. I think that's how it works. Lol. Just messing with you.
😂😂
Get a mini mo. Pour what you want to eat into boiling water that’s in the mini mo. Simmer while stirring until perfection. Tastes 4 times better than putting boiling water into bag of food and waiting ten minutes. Clean up is harder but you don’t have a gross bag of garbage leftover to lug around just an empty bag.
