This is absolutely great advice. The reason why it's overlooked is because honing fundamentals takes TIME and EFFORT (months to years). People getting into art might find it boring to learn basic shapes and forms but it's one of the prerequisites to drawing anything you want. Master the fundamentals and the rest will be easier.
Any resources you'd recommend for that? I definitely feel like shapes is where I'm getting stuck at the moment, ESPECIALLY circles which I can't do with any consistency.

but what about going back to the fundamentals??? how is someone supposed to know when they're done learning the fundamentals if they already can't do anatomy well? I can try and construct a body from shapes all I want but it will never look like a body, so I just go back to shapes.
It reminds me of that one scene from Oppenheimer (bear with me) where Bohr says "Algebra's like sheet music, the important thing isn't can you read music, it's can you hear it. Can you hear the music, Robert?" Kinda feels like that.
You’re videos are the thing I like. Not tutorials, but instead guidance and instruction. You don’t tell you viewers how to draw. You guide them through the process to figuring out. It’s helped me immensely
It feels like such a small thing, but I really love the fact that your sketches aren't always exactly the same as your reference. It doesn't have to be identical because it still conveys the beauty and movement of the image. It's your own work
I really wanna see this channel Thrive. I found it randomly and instantly subbed. you make art very easy to digest from an intermediate like myself. wish you were around when I was slumming it out lol🤣
I THANK YOU SO MUCH MAN, i was really struggling to even get a grip on anatomy cause I lost my passion for it cause my anatomy just wouldn't turn out right. After you broke it down and everything, especially with the alphabet it made me understand it so much more. Thank you so much bro
Can't even lie, I'm pretty sure finding this channel is no coincidence lol. I've been drawing for years now but never took it too seriously up into a year or two ago, i had the skills, but not much of the knowledge. Recently i've been struggling heavily on bringing my art to life and making it flow and not many videos seemed to help. And yet low and behold, you're the first dude that actually helped me understand a lot of what I was doing wrong and new ways to learn how to fix it. When i checked the sub count, it was honestly an understatement to say I was pretty surprised. Hope to see you succeed and grow a lot more as a creator, man.

Coming from a background in art your videos have helped me step back into it. Giving me new perspective on why I dropped my art 2 years ago and why I was dissatisfied with it. Reviewing my basics and putting everything into practice has springboarded me. Thank you.
Yo this is exactly what i needed to get an idea of how to improve! I've been frustrated with my art lately, since i can draw certain things incredibly well but I struggle with humans. I was about to start the rigorous journey of studying anatomy because I figured that was what I needed for humans, even though i draw non mammalian animals quite well. This is something I've already been doing with other animals and just didn't realize it. This gives me a good idea of what to dig into! Thanks!
I laughed a little when u said gesture was important bc I’ve started drawing again and that’s what I’m doing right now. I hate it bc I’m not good at it and it doesn’t look so beautiful, but this gives me motivation to trust the process
