wait to you hear about QWERTZ, QZERTY, PÜŞUD, Dvorak (and the Svorak version[dialect?]), Colemak, Maltron, Neo, Turkish F, HCESAR, SKY, BÉPO & Workman, there turn out that there are a lot of keyboard nerds out there making new keyboards, quite frightening tbh because there you are walking around and suddenly a 180 kilos (roughly 400 lbs) ugly-bastard-looking keyboard nerd rushes at you and pin you down and forces you to try new keyboard layouts while he's chanting a prayer to linus torvald, I shudder at the thought of anybody being forced to do that

Just wanna point out, QWERTY was originally designed specifically to prevent people from typing too quickly because otherwise you could end up with a jammed typewriter.

I've never heard of this till now, I mean it makes sense to have a different keyboard for different languages duh but I just dont think about it for using the same symbols(letters) that English shares
the azerty keyboard is actually quite different to the standard ANSI qwerty keyboard, you can check out the ISO layout to understand how cursed it is

My keyboard is US QWERTY but set to UK QWERTY because the US layout doesn't have a £ symbol and a few other bits are arranged different.
the first time I came across us keyboard was in jedi academy
for some reason, even though I had uk layout, the game would output us layout so shift+2 would be @ symbol which drove me up a wall when trying to use quotation marks

Even Spain and Italy use qwerty, since uk has 140k more citizens there’s already more qwerty users in uk than azerty users in France, if we now consider that both Spain and Italy have far more citizens than Belgium it’s already impossible for azerty to be used more than qwerty
Even west Germany got 3 million people more than France and since Austria and Switzerland both make up 16 million in total its 87 million people in DACH who use QWERTZ so more than azerty

The following keys on an AZERTY keyboard replace these on a QWERTY:
A replaces Q
Z replaces W
Q replaces A
W replaces Z
M is at the right end of the second row (to the right of L)
I'd like for you to consider why your keyboard is called Qwerty, what that might say about an Azerty, and then guess why she uses the Z key to move forward.

games need to include an auto key rebinder. where it goes "press button for up" and shit cause I dont use wasd and I have to write up lists on my phone to get all the bindings shifted over
Some basically do.
Some (maybe all, idk) engines dont look at the letter the key represents, but just at which position that key has on your keyboard, and then infer which letter that would be.
I have an Azerty, but with a lot of (newer) stuff made in Unity for example if I press Z, the game will just read that as W and move forward like its supposed to, it might even still say W in the rebind menu, despite responding to Z instead.

We game developers really need to learn to have initial key bind to scancode (Physical location of the key), not keycode (The character bound to it).
Thankfully we live in a world with two standards, international with 105 keys, and enhanced freedom with 104 keys, so keyboards are practically identical over most of the world.
Unity basically does this by default since they added their new input system.
Shame its such a pain to set up.

I use my mouse left-handed, so I am certainly not one to judge.
I actually like that she uses unorthodox keyboard commands - just another interesting facet of hers.

AZERTY is just good for accents we use in french. Honestly I wish we could just use the QWERTY layout with our accents where they are.
You need to understand something, ye who is not french, while parenthesis and the like are next to each other in QWERTY they are completely nonsensical in AZERTY making programming just a tad bit more painful. I mean you get used to it, but still.
And then there are games that don't let you change the key bindings, or not all of them. Like Cyberpunk for example. You can change the keys for moving, but not for selecting dialog option, leading to problems like even if you rebind for AZERTY, each time you want to walk left during a dialog it will go to the previous dialog option on its own (A and Q being swapped).
There's also the case of trying to type anything in japanese. Their keyboard is QWERTY, but with a little something on top that turns romaji into kanas for proper japanese. So in that case if you are an AZERTY user, unless you've got the patience for some tech wizardry you're stuck having to constantly think about swapping "a" and "q" "," and "m" and thankfully that's it, but still quite a pain.
All of that to say "We should really update our keyboard layout"

I use QWERTZ. Standard European Keyboard... I think. And I think the only thing different from the "American" one is the added ü, ö, ä and Y and Z being switched.

Different position of keys, usually you move forward with w but for azerty you need to change it to z, and other minor differences
