The Mexican is more mellow in harmonics while the Japanese is more trebly. The standard, however, has a noticeable ring on the high strings and decidedly more pick noise than the others.
Ditto, except I like the MIJ clean and both Pick ups a tiny but more , it has a little more flesh, but easy to get that from the USA standard with a tweak. I doubt that you could get the standard's glassy sound from the MIJ though.
очень неоднозначно, мекс понятное дело проигрывает всем, а вот АМ делюкс совсем не впечатлил. Хорошо звучит АМ стандарт, и японец с характером, хотя на АМ стандарте как-то много компрессии на неке.
Really glad you did all maple necks and so apples vs apples. Very well done. My USA standard can make all those sounds, though why i'd want to make it sound like the deluxe beats me...
C'mon man!, as the present POTUS would say. You can't hear any difference between a maple and rosewood neck when playing through an amp. Neither can you hear any difference between an alder, mahogany or ash bodied guitar. It's all in the pickups.
I have only ever owned fenders with noiseless pu's, and for whatever reason just gravitate towards them now. So I prefer the AM deluxe sound the best, but they're all pretty solid.
IMO the most glaring difference is the MIM had less clarity and spank than the MIJ and MIA Teles. An upgrade in the pickups would definitely improve the sound. But in fairness, the amplifier also seemed to have the highs rolled off a bit.
More treble please!! I think the American standard sounds best personally but I think Mexican and Japanese guitars are great honestly. I haven't had any problems with them.
Which do you like the best after playing all of them? I really can't tell enough of a difference in any of them to say one sounds better than the other. Great Video thanks.
Japanese sounded good all round. The standard seemed dull to start with but got better with more distortion. I'm about to buy the deluxe however I'm thinking twice now hmmm
I've had the honour of owning all of these tele versions. The Japanese in this video was the closest to a true sounding tele with bright twang from the saddle bridge, however pickups in the mij tend to lag behind the quality of US pickups. I threw a set of fralin blues specials in my mij it's now my favorite. 2nd favorite is my am deluxe however I hated the stock N3 noiseless pickups so I threw in kinman 60n set and the guitar gets compliments on how the tone jumps out. My am std also has the fralin blues specials and sounds awesome but not 100% tele (close). But because the modern bridge it looses some twang, still a tone beast!. Mexican, you get what u pay for, not a bad guitar but sits definitely on the bottom of the list. The ceramic pickups sound cheap, Not so much in this video recording but live they sound squirish. But still a great value guitar for the price. Throw some high end pups in one and it would improve 100% but you've then spent enough to buy an am std. Great video and some classy playing.
on a solid body pick up and electronics do 70% of the sound...compared guitar with different picks up is like compared 3 cars look the same but with 3 differents motors... however everybody should knows that there is sometimes a big diferents between 2 same guitar (AM tele and AM tele of the same factory for ex)...sometime the property of resonance between 2 pieces of wood are bad, or quite good or ...and sometimes you test one and you say "wow!! she 's perfect!! and you don't know why but she IS!...and you play the same model of another one 2minutes before but she had not the same sound... just to say to people wants to buy a guitar have to test many model and manufacture before to choose and don't just listen the sound on a video who modified the reality... cause every guitar sounds different and and a lot more behind a computer! But thank for your video, and excuse my english!
I've come to think most any properly set up guitar will do for playing at home when not competing with other guitars (competing in our minds, I mean). Our ears and hands adjust to the guitar we're holding. Only when we hear comparison vids do we grumble (or celebrate, as the case may be). Playing pro is a different natter, and then it seems the main thing is the children must play well with others. :- )
American standard had the most twang to it. Mexico sounded buddy clean or dirty. Was disappointed in the Japan model. American Deluxe sounded like I expected noiseless pickups to sound... Can't beat the real thing and the American Standard has it!
The guitar is just a preamp signal. The important part of a guitar set-up is the amplifier, the way you set it and the effects. Anybody who knows what they're doing can make any one of those guitars sound good.
To my ear the only guitar with a noticable difference was the made in Japan it may have been a bit tinnier. All sounded good and for the price the Mexican is the best. When you buy Americian you may be buying bragging rights LOL.
Rubino Pride yeah me too, I only listened to the clean tones part, you can tell right away an "upgrade" to the tone everytime the AM is played. I guess aside from tone- it will be the user experience- overall materiality and setup & finish set it apart from import models.
The craftsmanship on the old MIJs are on par with USA, if not better in certain ways even, but the electronics are horrendous in my experience. I'm not sure a video can accurately replicate the harshness of the MIJ Fender/Squier pickups.
It seems like the Japanese tried too hard to sound like an American Tele while the MiM one was so much warmer dirtier and bassier. Not everyone cup of tea but the Mexican one had a fatter over all tone.
Wow, the MiJ has a lot of bite and balls on 'clean', but the MiA standard really kicks butt in overdrive...
+1
The Japanese guitar has a brighter "classic tele sound" IMO.
LOL so does my Squier Classic VIbe.
For those wondering about the Japanese guitar it's a 1987 '71 reissue (model name seems to be TL71). They (guitarbank) have it listed on their site.
I like this particular Japanese tele.
The Mexican one sounds strangely muffed/nasally even at the bridge. Pretty unexpected.
Id have the Mexican. Love how it sounds
I prefer the Japanese.
it's price is also cheaper than the others!!
I think amazon is the answer
Lala Lapras yeah amazon is the answer
This is too hard, now I have to buy 4 guitars
David Johannesson lol
Can´t help but the white standard sounds best in all combinations. My ranking:
1. Standard
2. Japan
3. Mexico
4. Deluxe
It's funny that the Mexican and the American Deluxe have very similar sound.
JuanRetrofónico...both made by Mexicans (".)
I thought the American Deluxe and the Japanese Standard sounded closer.
The deluxe has better playability with the compound fretboard radius and the belly conotour, and the tone seems to be optimized for the S1 switch.
очень неоднозначно, мекс понятное дело проигрывает всем, а вот АМ делюкс совсем не впечатлил. Хорошо звучит АМ стандарт, и японец с характером, хотя на АМ стандарте как-то много компрессии на неке.

Amazing video and variety of styles thank you!
Thanks for this it was exactly what I was looking for. FYI - my preference is the MIJ > USA std > MIM > Usa dlx.
45H16E Did you get any of those ?
I have a MIM but don't care for the original pickups. Replacing them with a set of MIJ Vintage.
Nice! I just got a mim Fender from ebay
I like the Deluxe, to my ears it sounds warmer across the tonal spectrum, while still being capable of spank.
tone is in your personal preference. any telecaster made by fender are obsulutely very good :)
Mexico and American deluxe sound eerily similar, at least through this mix. I’d like to hear the in person
I have only ever owned fenders with noiseless pu's, and for whatever reason just gravitate towards them now. So I prefer the AM deluxe sound the best, but they're all pretty solid.
Ощущение, что на ам. стандарте просто самые свежие струны стоят
IMO the most glaring difference is the MIM had less clarity and spank than the MIJ and MIA Teles. An upgrade in the pickups would definitely improve the sound. But in fairness, the amplifier also seemed to have the highs rolled off a bit.
The MIM bridge sounded the best to me by far. The other positions are bit more difficult to decide for me.
I love my MIM!
Clean I prefer Japan
Dirty I prefer Am Standard
i prefer american vintage.
I'd chalk up the "sometimes" tonal differences to outsourced pickups in the Mexican and Japanese guitars.
great job on this !!
More treble please!!
I think the American standard sounds best personally but I think Mexican and Japanese guitars are great honestly. I haven't had any problems with them.
The AM standard sounds really nice with overdrive, but if I had to pick one overall it'd easily be the Japanese
for clean sound i preffer the japanese, for drive soun the am standard is great
Which do you like the best after playing all of them? I really can't tell enough of a difference in any of them to say one sounds better than the other.
Great Video thanks.
1-am std
2-jpn
A tele through a music man is about as good as it gets.
Liked the japanese better as well but I'm more interested in the differences in playability
как по мне на драйве стэндарт лучше остальных звучал, был слышен тяж, а не только глухой пердеж
Seems like I’m the only one who prefers the American standard. The others didn’t have enough of that classic tele fullness.
ALL the frequencies eh? you can always roll them off, but cant get them if they're not there to begin with.
mexican was nice overall
Japan and AM Deluxe to me. Thanks for the demo.
Deluxe, Mexico, Standard, Japan
Japanese sounded good all round. The standard seemed dull to start with but got better with more distortion. I'm about to buy the deluxe however I'm thinking twice now hmmm
japan and the deluxe sound killer
The MiA neck pickup overdriven sounds more like a Stratocaster than a Telecaster.

thanks you for this very cool review. i thinkn that everybody has made the decision which one is better (Japan)
Специально сделано или вправду стандарт звучит как стандарт ?
In the early 80s I had a music man 65 watt head and a music man 4x12 cabinet. Big and loud. I now have small combo amps.
That American Standard just shines through!
Nice. I wish a BAJA MIM add to this :)
baja it's amazing

The Japanese one sounds like a Mustang in "out of phase" mode
American standard had the most twang to it. Mexico sounded buddy clean or dirty. Was disappointed in the Japan model. American Deluxe sounded like I expected noiseless pickups to sound... Can't beat the real thing and the American Standard has it!
Actually Mexico sounded like crap, but idk why are you disappointed with Japan, to me it sounded pretty good
The Japanese by a whisker. Honestly I'd be happy gigging with any of them.
"my favourite is [guitar I already own]"
The guitar is just a preamp signal. The important part of a guitar set-up is the amplifier, the way you set it and the effects. Anybody who knows what they're doing can make any one of those guitars sound good.

Hmmm...i am so sorry is it fender sound? Why does it different with fender sound generally...
I have that deluxe. Gutted the garbage S1 system and put in Danny Gatton pups.
good review
am standard почетнее всех, особенно нек - именно тот нек, какой я себе хочу.
I like the mexico strat then the usa then american deluxe the japan sounded good but ehh lol
am all the way
Rubino Pride yeah me too, I only listened to the clean tones part, you can tell right away an "upgrade" to the tone everytime the AM is played. I guess aside from tone- it will be the user experience- overall materiality and setup & finish set it apart from import models.
I like MIJ soud because it real telecaster sound sweet and screaming....
You`re all wrong about which sounded best.
Since preferences are subjective, It's stupid suppose "your" preference is the universally correct.
No, I just changed my mind again. 😂
i want a tele with a really classic tone, i feel like mexicans dont offer it though.
That AM Standard is THE sound!
usa deluxe...holy shit
MIJ ftw :)
Bah, it's a matter of pups.
Cahyo Amiseso japan tele is better
На мой вкус ам стандарт тут лучший
Forget the guitars I want that guy's fingers.
Ha Ha yes, gotta be better than my stogies.
Considering the price and quality also, Japan wins!.
Mexican and Japanese seem remarkably similar. I can hear a difference at the bridge but not much else. Gotta give it to the US made though.
pickups
pickups
Japanese wins for me. Mex sounds good to my ear too
Как же глухо звучит этот мексикос. И это синглы?
Am Standard самый вкусный!))
Japón!
To my surprise Japan and Deluxe is not so good as MIM and AM. The last one is more twang, MIM more balanced. MIM is a good choice.
American Standard all day long
Japan 😍🎸
Could not choose.
The craftsmanship on the old MIJs are on par with USA, if not better in certain ways even, but the electronics are horrendous in my experience. I'm not sure a video can accurately replicate the harshness of the MIJ Fender/Squier pickups.
well honestly i'd prefer sound of american standard, but it pretty confused deluxe sounds like japan one, its kinda strange, isn't it ?
4:22
Go down to Messyco
fender japan
Japanese the best of all then the deluxe the standard and the mexico the last
AM.STA wins overwhelmingly.
Mexico is the winner... For me...
Am. Std.
American Standard by a nose.
MIJ!!!!>AMST>AMDLX>MIM
JAPAN
Japan tone is more crisp
1)am sido
2)México
3)am deluxe
4)japan
It seems like the Japanese tried too hard to sound like an American Tele while the MiM one was so much warmer dirtier and bassier. Not everyone cup of tea but the Mexican one had a fatter over all tone.
japannn
American Standard is way better with any gain.
wins JAPAN
Japan>Amdeluxe>Mexico>Am
Exactly
1.DELUXE
2.JAPAN
3.MEXICO & STANDARD
I will be that guy..... the mexican sounds better to me
Japan.
AM DX is the worst in the both ways.
There are three ways, but I wasn't too impressed with it either
amstrad is the best. but mine is am dlx because my gf like the colour of it.
Mexican wins
