So Excited to see more like this. Great Idea! I would love to see the two of you working together and the different approach to problem solving with design, etc. Also love the comment about urinating on other peoples lawn!
Are walls ever parallel? Not with sheet rock in my experience. It's not whether the walls are parallel, but rather whether the rails upon which the trucks ride are parallel. John actually made a presentation of the construction of his overhead gantry. Maybe look it up and see what he did to overcome the issue.
Mr Wandel, I just noticed: I was not yet subscribed! Well I am happy to say, that problem is solved now. Thanks for taking the time to make all these nice video's for us.
It's a really cool box joint jig. I bought Matthias' plans but I may build John's first because it is simpler and would still cut a big percentage of the joints I see myself cutting in the future.
This woodworker's has a very neat and clean shop - I'm jealous, also of his projects and clever solutions. Now he has a cap as well, but I'm not jealous of that...
I doubt it's the biscuit, has to be the PB. I mean, we're talking a very small item, that's quite dense VS a board that chips. There's also the possibility that sides of the cabinet simply swayed out of the way and neither the board or the biscuits failed.
First time I changed my disk sander I was quite shocked. I have to remove 4 screws to get the table off and another 4 to remove the dust collector shroute. Why do companies build them that way??
Nice to say you both having fun together. Btw I did not know that you had another You Tube Channel. I never heard you referring to that in your video's. At least I have something to watch during the long winter evenings :-)
Matthias Wandel Thanks, will do! You two have a very good chemistry. Enjoyable to watch you compete on who has the best jigs and discuss each others solutions. IMO very smart move to make collaborative content! Kudos, and thanks for being such amazing entertainers.
That gantry is sweet, it rolls pretty smooth... I thought it was going to slam into the back wall! Could have titled the video "I visited John, broke his shop"
-Miter saws aren't for everyone. I like them because they give you a consistent (enough) angled cut on beams, which for me is important. Other than that, they don't really do much more that a table saw can't do, or do better (or even lesser, a skill saw with a good sled setup). -And these days (compared to old times) unless you set your saw right after you've bought it, it's never going to work perfectly well enough, and that's across all models and makes, they just can't or won't bother with that aspect anymore (in the factory). -Also, you cannot live with one in a small shop. Not only are you wasting its potential, the space its occupying, but you're never going to get rid of the dust one makes without a good enough vacuum/filter system. Probably one of the more polarizing tools in the shop, there's plenty enough people to hate them, and like them at the same time.
Matthias, I'm not a big fan of Miter saws either except to cut long (over 6' wood). His shop does have the very nicely designed and built camera gantry, but you have your country shop with very high ceilings and that awesome drill powered rolling scaffolding! How much different is the floor space of both your shops?
I disagree with your point about disc sanders Matthias. On my homemade disc sander I made the table to be quick release giving me access to the whole disc and I fitted it with Velcro. I can change a disc in seconds but after seeing Izzy's tip, where he cleans the paper with the sole of an old training shoe, I have to change the paper much less frequently. I think, after the table saw, my homemade disc sander is my most commonly used power toool.
Just finished painting my miter saw blue...
:D
and yellow?
John Heisz hahahah wow how cool is that? Two of my woodworker heros spending time toghether, man oh man, you guys rock tnx for sharing this vid!!!
Dam ! it's like watching Mark Knopfler show up at Eric Clapton's studio. Awesome !
Keep on trucking (from France) !
That overhead camera gantry is very cool.
wow I love the gantry. He can position the camera anywhere he likes, and it saves precious floor space! Genius!
+
That's a sigh of relief, that means putting these two together doesn't cause the world to explode with woodworking ingenuity
I always had the impression that John has a big workshop. But it is actually quite tiny! Cool! :)
"Space Efficient"
He has a wide angle lens :)
I really am enjoying seeing you two enjoy each others' company.
Two of my favorite woodworkers doing videos together? Can't wait!
It is so cool to see two of the guys I watch and learn from not only know one another but visit and work together!
So Excited to see more like this. Great Idea! I would love to see the two of you working together and the different approach to problem solving with design, etc. Also love the comment about urinating on other peoples lawn!
Wow that gantry is awesome! I could use one myself. I constantly bump into my tripod. But that also requires your workshop walls to be parallel.
Are walls ever parallel? Not with sheet rock in my experience. It's not whether the walls are parallel, but rather whether the rails upon which the trucks ride are parallel. John actually made a presentation of the construction of his overhead gantry. Maybe look it up and see what he did to overcome the issue.
Matthias, you give me yet another reason to keep on watching. Looking forward to the new videos.
G'day from Down under. You two looked like you were having to much fun.
There is nothing better than sharing your shop with a mate. 🍻
Haha John breaking that shelf and laughing is great. Two big kids playing together.
Love seeing the collaboration Gents! wish I could spend a few days up north with ya'll
i was waiting for john to come storming in shouting "you have 20 seconds to get off my property, kid! oh, it's you."
It's cool when all of you RUclips guys get together like this.
I thought at first you'd just broken in, and John had no idea you were there! ;)
Should end the video with Matthias spraying lighter fluid everywhere, dropping a match and saying "So much for the competition."
Your lucky the beast wasn't working in the shop when you were there. lol
Mr Wandel, I just noticed: I was not yet subscribed! Well I am happy to say, that problem is solved now.
Thanks for taking the time to make all these nice video's for us.
I can't wait to see the video of his box joint jig. I'm really curious what it can do and how it works.
Lots of videos on that on John's channel already
Matthias Wandel thanks I'll check it out! love your channel.
It's a really cool box joint jig. I bought Matthias' plans but I may build John's first because it is simpler and would still cut a big percentage of the joints I see myself cutting in the future.
Seeing two great #Woodworking creators, #MatthiasWandel and #JohnHeisz, together was fun! Hope to see more of that! Thanks, guys! #KeepTheChipsFlying!
This woodworker's has a very neat and clean shop - I'm jealous, also of his projects and clever solutions.
Now he has a cap as well, but I'm not jealous of that...
Can't wait to see more from you two :)
you two are my constant inspiration .
so good to see two of the best together.
It is cool to see you two together. ☺
both of you have a different way to work, both of you are awesome doing what you do.
Great to see you guys get together.
Now that's cool to see the two of you together!
Nice workshop! Clean and functional. Thanks for this vid. Both of you are awesome.
Regards from Catalonia.
The shelf failure looked hilarious... was it the biscuit or the particle board that failed, Hmm...
I doubt it's the biscuit, has to be the PB. I mean, we're talking a very small item, that's quite dense VS a board that chips. There's also the possibility that sides of the cabinet simply swayed out of the way and neither the board or the biscuits failed.
No doubt you are a plywood abuser?
Nice to see the collaboration :)
oh you guys are fun together
thanks for the walk around. for whatever reason I always thought his miter saw was on the other side of the shop.
First time I changed my disk sander I was quite shocked. I have to remove 4 screws to get the table off and another 4 to remove the dust collector shroute. Why do companies build them that way??
So you rather go buy another one with brand new paper :P
Nice! I'm looking forward for your videos guys!
AWESOME!!! - so looking forward to the next few videos.
The channel content is becoming more and more interesting.
Good walk around. Thank you. It's interesting to note [just an observation], that even the most organized workshop looks dangerously cluttered.
Nice to say you both having fun together.
Btw I did not know that you had another You Tube Channel. I never heard you referring to that in your video's.
At least I have something to watch during the long winter evenings :-)
the gantry he has is very nice, im looking to make on in my small shop as well. hope you kids had fun together
Jump test on biscuit shelf was hilarious.
Looks like John like to test his work the same way you do 😋
So wooden biscuits do not pass the John Heisz pomf test.
Interesting.
+Bert Bertmann : My Mum always broke her biscuits and soaked them in her tea. John's Mum probably did the same. He's off to boil the kettle right now.
maybe matthias is working some magic with pocket holes..
*pomf*
What are we gonna do on the shelf?
solonimbus =3
John's jump test seems a lot more demanding than Matthias'...
You got me with your green miter saw joke! lol
"at this point it's just showin' off. You know that right?" hahahahahaha priceless!
nice meet :) ...happy for seeing more
Very cool this system ... CONGRATULATIONS !!!
It's fun listening to you two guys give each other crap :) "It's just showing off now, you know that." Hahahahahaha
That gantry is awesome. I don't know how I've missed him having that thing.
Love the RUclips collabs.
Hahaa how nice it is you are making a shop tour of john heisz shop, love your video's
Digging that gantry system! I'm getting an IDEA!
both matthias and john in a video? It's still 2 weeks till Christmas you know!
It's just a teaser trailer! ;)
I like John jumping on the biscuit supported shelves, which imo seemed very weak from the start. Hope there'll be a video on the strength of those
Wait for the upcoming video on that.
Matthias Wandel Thanks, will do! You two have a very good chemistry. Enjoyable to watch you compete on who has the best jigs and discuss each others solutions. IMO very smart move to make collaborative content! Kudos, and thanks for being such amazing entertainers.
I love the colab. I wish a few other channels did it too.
"just showing off, you know that right?" LOL!!
nice to see you together guys
that camera setup is just genius
Matthias, you should have painted one of his homemade tools in your signature green!! Haha!
I'd always imagined that John shop was attached to his house. Now that I see it's detatched, it makes sense why he keeps it at such a low temperature.
I'm so excited for more! Nice crane!
Love this video. How often does this happen ... my 2 favourite RUclips guys!!
Yay! I love it when you upload on other days than Friday! :D
That gantry is sweet, it rolls pretty smooth... I thought it was going to slam into the back wall! Could have titled the video "I visited John, broke his shop"
That gantry camera setup is very impressive
really excited about these videos, wish pocket83 had also been in the neighbourhood
cant wait to see those videos!
I cant wait for your videos!
thanks for casing the joint for us.
You should do a walk around of your shop or a video of all the tools you use the most
You two oughta do a project build together. I think it would be pretty entertaining.
-Miter saws aren't for everyone. I like them because they give you a consistent (enough) angled cut on beams, which for me is important. Other than that, they don't really do much more that a table saw can't do, or do better (or even lesser, a skill saw with a good sled setup).

Looks like a good time was had by all...
Matthias, I'm not a big fan of Miter saws either except to cut long (over 6' wood). His shop does have the very nicely designed and built camera gantry, but you have your country shop with very high ceilings and that awesome drill powered rolling scaffolding!
How much different is the floor space of both your shops?
my two favorite youtubers !
Mattias if you love green tools look up 'Rockwell shop series' I'm sure you will love it
Did you buy a 30 gallon container of that green paint 25 years ago and that's why you use it?
Put your stuff at John's Van and you two go to the shop of mister Alain Vaillancourt. That would be Christmas for all the viewers. good job guys
2 geniuses under the same roof
Omg so cool! Best collab! Now you two go find AvE.
I have to say, I was wondering if you were going to make a jig for his shop...his entire shop.
My mind just exploded!!
Hello. Cool video BIGFOOT!
good day sir do a video comparing the band saws please metal vs wood
would be great to see more crossover/colaboration vids😊
Wait whaaat?!?! You have second channel?!?! Well there goes my day off...
please tell me you are going to upload a comparison video of the belt sanders! I'm about to wet myself.
Thanks for the tip. I will paint my head green
Perhaps that should cure the need to post useless comments, and focus on more important stuff...
This kinda seems like two superheroes in the same movie.
i bet you two had a good time together lol
hi Matthias
is your favorit color for Tools inspired by reseda-green, the traditional color in Germany?
regards Jan
Somehow I missed John's video on making the camera gantry. That thing is genius.
We love you both
do you know each other ? so good, ı follow both of you and ı like both of your style so much. congratulations.
Birds of a Canadian feather? LOL! Should prove interesting.
Two great makers 👍
Except neither of us uses the term "maker". That's way too hipster.
I have the un-maker in my shed :)
This is going to be epic.
You guys are awesome! :D
