    One thing I typically add when scouting the prospects is that after pick 100 or so, I stop scouting 19 year olds (and I might even stop scouting 18 year olds too if there's a ton of 17 year olds). Once you get into the 4th round, it's almost impossible to find a 19 year old who will become a roster player in time. Your scouting would be better spent on 17 & 18 year olds.
    Great video as always, Data! All I can think of when you're going through scouts earlier on was "anyone who doesn't truly follow Data is probably wondering why he'll suddenly go deep into French accent sometimes...." LOL

    • @Data782
      @Data782  3 года назад

      LOL gotta get those names right!! And yes, you're absolutely right about 19 year olds late in the draft. I still scout the ones who seem interesting potential-wise as that's where some of the undrafted LOW Elites will lie but you're right, their chance of making the roster is usually not the best. Super fun when they do pan out, though! Worst case, they become trade bait down the road. Thanks bud!

    I knew a few things from franchise mode vids of yours, one thing I will mention is that if you find 7th plus round guys who have low chance to have a golden zone ability, take them. They often have awful potential but have at least one superstar ability, which means that despite their potential, they fetch about a 3rd rounder. Low elites in the first/second round are always great picks, the earlier ones tend to have gold zone abilities and superstar X factors. Hope this helps anyone reading, and have a good day!

      @@grievousjab4213 Yea, the AHL can also do this for the better recruits. But often it feels hard coded. Even trading for an Elite Low that is age 22 or so, you'd think you would be able to give them 3-4 years in the AHL top line, 70 point seasons, and they would develop. But a lot of them don't, or only get like 1-2 points up a year. It makes the Top 6 or even top 9 HIGH players fun because they develop quicker.

    Been playing nhl for 25 years and ever since they brought scouting I never took the time to try and figure it out this made it so much more convenient and I think il have more fun with my simulation now thanks very informative, should i play with morals on if I play simulate? (Won't it take longer?)
    Also if you have B or A scouts you said you scout till January rather than February how about after? May or April?

    • @Data782
      @Data782  2 года назад

      Hey there! Glad that I could be of assistance! :) Regarding your questions:
      1. Morale being turned "on" will make the simulation take slightly longer, but not by much. If anything, it will take longer due to having to stop for things like morale meetings. I prefer to keep morale turned "off" because, on top of it making things take longer, it can be pretty broken (ex. An injured player gets mad that you aren't playing him and plummets in overall).
      2. Yes, if my scout has an overall of A/B, I'll likely send them out until ~January instead of February because they are more efficient. For example, I only want to scout 20 players so, if they're done by January, I will stop as opposed to pushing to February just to scout 5-6 more who are likely out of the drafting range. After January, I will go to mid-April/beginning of May, then the final scouting of 3-4 prospects per scout to get me to the June 23rd draft.
      Hope that's helpful for you! Let me know if you have any other questions! :)

      Thanks bud! On NHL 22, player types don't matter a whole ton. That being said, the players you choose for your bottom 6 are usually more defensive in nature so you'll see TWFs and GRNs more often. Depends on the identity that you want for your line! Your 3rd could be shutdown and all TWF, or scoring with a couple of PLYs and a SNP. Up to you! J'espère que ça t'aidera! ;)

    Thanks for the tips! I noticed that no matter how many times I scout some players I cannot get a more accurate picture of their potential (especially lower in the rankings). Is there something I am doing or not doing to cause this or is this just part of the game?
    Should I not scouting players potentials once their “scout rank” bar is up to 4 dashes? Is this telling me that I can’t get any more information?

    • @Data782
      @Data782  2 года назад +1

      My pleasure, Alan! It unfortunately seems to be a phenomena of the game that becomes less frequent once your scouts have higher overalls. And yes, once a certain stat/attribute such as player type, comparison, superstar abilities, etc. reaches 4 dashes or "bars," that means that it is fully scouted.
      Ex. Player type is 3 bars SNP? The player is probably a sniper but possible that he's something else. Player type is 4 bars SNP? He's 100% a sniper. Hope that helps! :)

      I have been noticing however that no matter how many times I scout some players their dashes for potential (the most important stat) do not change. I’m in my 4th season so all my scouts are As and Bs. Is there something I should/could do differently? Should I just not scout some players a second time and say “this is all the info I will get” and move on to lower un-scouted players?

    • @Data782
      @Data782  2 года назад

      @@alfpos Always happy to add my two cents! Yeah, I've noticed that as well. Getting better scouts is usually the solution but, as you're unfortunately seeing, it doesn't always solve the problem. I and many others feel your pain 😭 Honestly, I sometimes snap and scout that player a dozen times in a row, sending my scout back every few days, until he's uncovered haha. That being said, in future years with highly rated scouts, I have heard theories that recommend going the "find prospects" route for a couple of months BEFORE then following my method of scouting. Maybe it loosens up the secrets that the scouts don't want to share? Your guess is sadly as good as mine. I'd recommend trying that method out, reading some of the other comments in here, joining the discord or taking a scroll in the franchise mode subreddit, and go from there. But no, I would not recommend giving up and moving on from any prospects because you never know which are sticky and which are just one assignment away!

    • @alfpos
      @alfpos 2 года назад

      @@Data782 so helpful! I will join discord and Reddit for sure…one more quick one while I have your ear…is there ever a situation where you want to scout something other than potential? Does scouting skills help you uncover c-factors? Something else?
      Thanks again!

    • @Data782
      @Data782  2 года назад

      @@alfpos My pleasure! :) And yes, absolutely! Scouting player type isn't as important in 22 as it was in 21 shine the chemistry system changed, but it's still not a bad thing to know. Character assessment is important if you have morale on. Skills assessment will tell you helpful things and help you to find "wonky" prospects. For example, you see that a prospect in the 2nd round is an average MED Top 6 sniper, BUT his shooting is at A+. That means he's probably really bad at something like skating which is holding back his overall, but his shooting is already in the 80-90 range. So yes, while potential and comparison is king, scouting the other things can also be helpful if you have a little extra time and want to have a complete report on someone you're eyeing! Keep in mind that xfactors and superstar abilities are also uncovered by scouting potential and comparison. Glad that I could be of service!

      @Data782  2 года назад

      Hey Justin, thank you very much! I've heard the same in recent weeks, but the way that I have outlined here does uncover a fair amount of gems and busts, as well. So, while "find prospects" may reveal more gems and busts than my method, I do prefer knowing more about potential than gem/bust status since that plays the most into development and trade value. You're absolutely right, right! Thanks for adding that :)

    Good info, Data.. during the draft, how much emphasis should I put on players that are recommended by my scouts (that have the star in front of their name) ? I realize that stats and info are more important but I noticed you passed on all of them.
    And how accurate is the “gem” icon/status. I noticed in the draft on this video, the guy ranked 6th was a “gem”. I thought a gem meant a great value for its draft rank, but maybe I don’t understand the meaning/significance of being a “gem”
    I see that you reply to all comments - which is super cool, good on you - so thank you in advance. Keep up the great content

    • @Data782
      @Data782  2 года назад +2

      Thank you very much! In my experience, I wouldn't put TOO much emphasis on what players your scout recommends. The scouts only recommend them because they are within a pick or two of where you are drafting and, as I have seen time and again, just because a player is ranked 25th, it doesn't mean that he's better than, say the one at 28th. The only time I'd begin to consider their recommendation(s) would be if I had nothing uncovered on the players around where I'm drafting and I know that, at the very least, the ones recommended are ranked more highly (although not a guarantee that they're actually better).
      Concerning "gem" status, it's not only for diamonds in the rough who give you good value. As you saw, even top players can be a "gem." In my experience, "gem" status signals to you that the game knows there is a higher chance that he will grow and produce.
      I hope that helps and you're more than welcome! :)

    • @Data782
      @Data782  Год назад +1

      Depends on what you're doing! If you send out two scouts to scout the same thing on the same player, it won't go any faster or uncover extra information. However, yes, if you were to, for example, send one scout to scout a player's "player type" and another scout to scout that player's "potential and comparison," it would uncover those two things a bit more quickly. In my opinion, I don't really find it worth it to have two scouts on one player because, when I do send one out for "potential and comparison" multiple times, it usually uncovers most of those other elements, as well. The best course of action seems to be playing them in their role (NHL or AHL, depending on if you've signed them or they're still playing in juniors. I keep prospects from Canadian leagues unsigned until they're ready for the NHL or have no more junior eligibility, whichever comes first. All other prospects from USA, Europe, etc., get signed and put into the AHL starting at ~74-75 OVR. Lots of factors at play), maximizing chemistry, giving special teams minutes, and possibly adding x-factors if you're interested in doing so. I tried having 4 scouts for the OHL and WHL, doing every type of scouting, and I think my draft board might have been a bit better than yours, but not by much (and not worth the micromanagement trouble). I swear the game has some hard coded script where I often get a low Elite fully scouted by real real low, like around 100 or lower overall. It is like the game is tempting you to not take risks and go with what your scout "knows". I suppose it is kind of interesting, but it is annoying that even a ranked 11 or 12 overall I cannot learn anything about their true potential with 4 scouts watching them for months. Anyway, have you tried doing this 3-5 seasons in and after hiring more A level scouts? do they reveal more info after a season of scouting? I guess I will find out when I get there. Anyway, great video!

      You can say that again! I fully understand that frustration. When I see those prospects who just won't get uncovered and I really want to know about him, I often dedicate one scout to that player and do "potential and comparison" every two weeks haha. And yes, I have! They do reveal more information in a more timely manner, thus allowing you to scout the class on a deeper level. Thanks for taking the time! :)

They also found some gems late in the draft, some elite High prospects even around the 100-140 level, which is insane , I wonder if the game auto-generates such prospects at random if you have a good enough scout or based on the scouts stats. Just to make sure that I understand you correctly, you're asking how long can you leave a player undrafted and playing for their junior team before you lose the right to sign them? In the real world, that number changes depending on a few factors but, in Franchise Mode, the answer is two years! So if you draft in 2022, you can leave them unsigned for 2022-23 and 2023-24, but you have to sign or release the player heading into the 2024-25 season. Hope that answers your question!

      Gems don't only matter for later rounds, but they are better "value" picks. For example, whether I take Lambert who's a "gem" or any other player in the top 5, I know they'll be good. But, in the, say, 5th round, a gem may stand out much more in comparison to who's being drafted around him.
      Lastly, for the scout recommendations, I don't put too much value into them. Those recommendations are more of a "So you're drafting at 100th overall? I think you should draft one of the players who are ranked 99-101." So, you see, it's never really a recommendation - just showing you who's available around your pick. A scout recommendation won't be the guy ranked 115th, for example, when you're picking 100th, even though that guy at 115 may be MED Elite and the guy at 100 is nothing special. That being said, if you're completely in the dark, you can go with the recommendation but, usually, trust your scouting and choose who you think is best.
      Hope all of that helped! Feel free to leave any other questions that you may have :)

      @@Data782 Got it thanks. I do also have a question about GM contracts. When your contract as GM is over, and a bunch of different teams offer contracts, why is it that teams like Boston and Chicago always give more money? It shows that all the teams have a similar total budget, and yet the bigger market teams always offer a lot more money. I’m just asking because I usually like to switch teams when my contract is up and I want to make a decision based on who offers me the biggest contract. But it always seems to be Boston or some other bigger market team. So is there any way to see which team is actually giving me the most generous contract relative to their team’s GM budget? Or is this something EA just did without explanation.

    If a player you scout goes undrafted, can they enter the draft in the next year? I’m finding that sometimes prospects who are listed as unknown, but actually have a potential when I look at their info. If it happens, it’s usually in the lower ranks (130+).

    • @Data782
      @Data782  2 года назад

      Hey! If a player goes undrafted, one of two things will happen.
      1. They re-enter the draft next year (and will likely be ranked higher in the subsequent draft), OR
      2. They become an unsigned free agent on July 1st
      I can't tell you EXACTLY when which of the two scenarios will happen but I believe, for a player to become an unrestricted free agent, they have to be at least 19. Pretty sure that age is 20 in the real world but I've seen 19 year olds go undrafted and then be in free agency in NHL 22. Not sure if it's possible for any younger. Hope that somewhat helps haha.
      And yes, I've seen that happen as well! Listed as unknown yet my scout is able to tell me about his potential haha. Maybe those are unfinished reports?

      @Data782  2 года назад +1

      Not necessarily! I would only do that if I really had no idea who to choose between a couple of players. I'd rather trust what has been uncovered because the recommendation will never reach for the best player, it'll just tell you who of the next 4-5 players is their choice

    Probably a stupid question when you look at the stats of a AHL player it says 1st line or 2nd line match. Is that in the AHL or NHL? Great vid by the way

    • @Data782
      @Data782  2 года назад

      Hey Chris! Sorry that I'm a bit late in getting back to you, I wanted to double check to make sure. So, if you have an AHL scout and you scout a player in the AHL, that scout will tell you about their fit for your AHL coach and his/her line preferences. However, if you scouted a player in the NHL and he is then sent to the AHL, your pro scout may still tell you about his NHL fit. And, if you have no AHL scouts, an AHL player can't be scouted (obviously). The easiest thing to do to keep from getting confused is make sure you remember the names of your NHL and AHL coaches so that, when your pro scout names them, you know if it's for the majors or the minors. Hope that helps and thanks for the love! :)

      Gems are prospects that your scouts identify as players who should develop well, especially for the spot in which you are drafting them (ex. a good value selection late in the draft)

      The more players you scout, the longer the date will be! If you want to change the date, remove players from your scouting report OR change what you're scouting (ex. scouting player type takes 1-2 days while potential & comparison can take up to a week). Hope that helps! :)
