Polymer Clay Silkscreen Colouring!

These little components were so fun to create! I’ll admit it wasn’t a quick process- but it was a great way to get a variety of pieces!
Here’s the steps to making them:
- condition and roll out your polymer clay
- smooth the silkscreen onto the clay
- apply paint
-screen the paint then immediately wash the silkscreen
- cut your pieces
- bake
- colour the shapes using Posca paint pens
(Steps not shown)
-rebake for 10-15mins to set the Posca
- seal/ varnish/ resin
- make into earrings /pendants / brooches- whatever you like!

This is so cool! How sturdy are they? Could you make personalized buttons (for closing clothing like sweaters, with all the strain put upon it that entails) this way? What do you do with the little disks you make if they are not buttons?

I made these ones into earrings. They could definitely be used as buttons- but I would seal them with resin to protect the designs when they get washed.

Yes I do. But it dries pretty quickly - so by the time I wash my silkscreen (in my bathroom) and return to the clay - it is pretty much dry.

What’s your advice for softening hard, unused clay?

These became earrings.
Fimo/ Sculpey and Cernit all make polymer clay softeners that can be added to hard clay to help soften.
Alternatively you can try to slice into thin slices and use an acrylic roller to condition small amounts at a time. Body body warmth (holding in warm hands/ or sitting on it!) can also help slightly.

I bake for 60mins at 130degC, but check your clay pack as different brands vary.
