Makes you wonder how different his relationship with harry could have been if he raised him instead of the dursleys. I mean, he hated harry when he arrived to hogwarts because he looked so much like james and he refused to see how much like lily he was ( since that was morr painful), but if he had harry in his care since a baby...i doubt he would have been able to hate on a baby like that.

Because back then, Snape had fallen in love with Lily when they were school kids and when James entered the scene, he won Lily's heart...they eventually got married and had Harry. And this famous wizard looked a lot like James except he got his mother's eyes. This was why Snape's jealousy took him to dislike Harry because the boy reminds him of James.
This man was a constant professional and a wonderful guy he will be missed

I feel like this needs to be addressed at this point, I didn't mean to stir up all this aggression towards her. There are people who do not want kids, and if their partner wants otherwise, it's something that the two of them need to figure out, it's none of our business. Not wanting to have kids isn't a sin, and just because one's partner respects and loves them enough to comply to their wishes does not make them a bad person. It was Alan Rickman's decision to stay with and continue to love and respect his wife, even if that meant that he wouldn't have kids. It isn't something that we as outsiders should give hate to his wife for, because she does not deserve any of it. I made this comment simply to shed light upon a mere instance that shows what a selfless person he was. Please stop hating on Rima, thank you.

@@erindanko3900 imagine if lily , who is sold to the audience like perfect and super good, who forgave and married a bully( who bullied her too).had realized that her childhood friend was being manipulated and absorbed by a cult, forgave him over that summer giving snape the security net to leave that people and never joing the death eaters. Rowling did said, that if lily had forgiven him, he would have never chosen the death eaters.
He is not without fault, of course, for being cruel as an adult. But teenagers like snape are very vulnerable to cults and terrorists manipulations.

@@cho3rry he was brainwashed into thinking that joining the death eaters would give him the status,money and power needed to protect lily, he only realized what he had gotten into later. Similar to how grindewald manages to brainwash queenie into joining him in fantastic beasts, when you realize the lie is usually late and you are deep in it.that's how cults and orginized terrorists groups work, and they go after the emotionally weakest, the ones that have nothing to lose ( or feel like that) or the lonely ones. Snape was 15, maybe even younger when they started to get him into the death eaters, so i can't say it was entirely his fault, he was a vulnerable kid with no safety net, easy to manipulate. Now, i do held him fully responsible for acts of unnecessary cruelty( even for his cover) as an adult. Like bullying his students.
As for lily, even if you don't forgive your childhood friend because you decide you can't do anything and that friendship has become toxic, which i can understand cause she was 15 too and didn't have the capacity to know how to get snape out of that. But still, i find it baffling she could forgive james or sirius who brutally bullied her friend and actually bullied her too the first years, and marry one of them. Like , i could totally understand her not forgiving snape if she had not forgiven james. But i can't se the logic in forgiving the spoiled bully and marrying him,And not forgiving your childhood friend who you know is in a complicated situation and is being brainwashed. And she had to know he didn't really mean that slur and that it had something to do with the others, because he was the first person who told her that being muggleborn made no difference. So snape was petty and stupid to believe the death eaters lies, but he was desperate and alone and they promised what he wanted. And lily was also petty and her behavior doesn't make sense with how everyone talks about her. That's one of the reasons is so painful that snape and harry never got along. Petunia never told harry anything about his mother, and the only other person who truly knew her was snape ( because let's be real, lupin and sirius were james's friends), he could have told harry so much about the real lily he knew since childhood.

Severus didn’t SUPPORT Voldemort, he joined those who did support him as a way to attempt to gain some semblance of control in his life and to take advantage of the compadre he found over sharing certain prejudices.

No. Snape never cared about harry. All he wanted was Revenge. He begged Voldemort not to kill lily, but yet Voldemort killed her. Snape wanted revenge, and harry was the only way to do so. He used Harry just to kill Lord Voldemort. He saved his life in some aspects and raised him like a pig for slaughter. He was mean to all the students who are not slytherin. At last, he got his sweet revenge. So I can conclude that It was not an act of love, but rather an act of pure selfishness and cruelty.
Also i am not stating that he was completely evil, but he's not all good either. He did what was good for him, even though it meant harm for others.
