    What a great boot! It's exciting to see what Brett is doing with Viberg, he's a brilliant guy and clearly has a vision for the brand. Excellent video!

      Thanks, Carl!! Always good to hear from you and inspired by you as a person. Yeah, I’m more and more impressed by what Brett is doing; he sort of defies categories in some ways haha! Will be interesting to see where things go with Viberg in years to come. Looking forward to hearing your pros/cons on Viberg after you’ve assessed them for yourself 🙌🏽 That new pair you got is really special.

    Viberg really nailed the aesthetic of these. The leather, the welt, the pattern and shape. Everything about these are the perfect Canadian cottage country boots
    Reminds me of brands like danner or timberland except you can really see the quality here in all aspects

    I own the Viberg 10'' Hunter, absolutely love the boot. I also have noted that the metal on the shoelaces holes can be sharp sometimes and can result in cutting the laces maybe they just need a little quality control checking on that.

    Nice video, packed full of information. I always thought that design was first made by Timberland but I guess I was wrong 🤷‍♂️

      I might be wrong…I haven’t been able to find it in my research (which admittedly wasn’t immense). No one really claims that design as theirs, as Timberland’s focus in innovation seems to have been their proprietary outsole. But if you find anything, let me know! Always good to hear from you!

    amazing video Dave! have you gotten a pair of flamepandas yet? I still think they're the best bang for your buck. my horsebutt pair has the most insane clicking. 3/4 of the unlined panels look like it's the shell portion of the horsebutt

    • @thevintagefuture6567
      @thevintagefuture6567  2 года назад

      Thanks! And, yeah I have some Flame Pandas on the way! Can’t wait to try them. I guess the reason I’m hypothesizing Viberg is a slightly better bang for your buck is they have access to some materials and machinery and methods Peng does not currently. Also, Viberg is often a stock boot, which counts for something in a boot experience, not waiting months. Then there’s sizing, which is hit and miss with makers like Peng. I probably should have elaborated more in the video so it didn’t look like a wild claim 😂 Anyways, you might be right; I guess I can assess Peng’s work better once I get a pair. Even if he’s not the absolute best bang for your buck, you’re right that Peng probably is up there in the top 3 or something.
      Good to hear about the uppers on your FP boots. I hear he is super meticulous with clicking. Yours sound incredible! Which model did you get?

      @@thevintagefuture6567 I have 4 pairs.
      1 horsebutt boondocker, 1 tochigi monkey boot, 2 horsebutt service boot.
      They're all so good that I'm thinking of just getting rid of almost everything else.
      Super interested in hearing your thoughts on using machines vs hand made. Like handwelted vs Goodyear welt, hand lasted vs machine, and hand outsole stitch vs machine. Just something I always think of when comparing brands.

    Dave, take a look at XBXS. They certainly take a lot of design cues from Viberg and have really tight welt stitching as well. I love what they're doing.

    • @thevintagefuture6567
      @thevintagefuture6567  2 года назад +1

      Ah yes! I’ve seen them! Looks like they do good work. I haven’t bought any mainly because my interests currently follow creators/innovators (Viberg, Kreosote etc), but I’ve loved seeing what they’re doing. Like, I love how they offer a souped up Iron Ranger and some other alternatives to the “real deal”. Have you had the opportunity to own any XBXS yet?

      @@thevintagefuture6567 I haven't yet, but I used one of their new styles to riff off for a Benzein MTO. Still making my way through Indo makers, but I might have to come back to XBXS for that stellar oxford.

      Yes! It added some water repellent ability and hydration, but also wore off eventually so that it didn’t permanently darken the leather too much

  • @SpaniardDH

    I think totally the opposite. They’re great all around but the price isn’t justified in all makeups. They’re not the best bang for your buck. That is the territory of brands like Flamepandas or some of the best Indonesian brands IMHO.

    • @thevintagefuture6567
      @thevintagefuture6567  2 года назад +1

      Hey, man! Always good to hear from you!
      You bring up a valid point….I’ll say what I commented to another user: I guess the reason I’m hypothesizing Viberg is a slightly better bang for your buck is they have access to some materials and machinery and methods Peng does not currently. Also, Viberg is often a stock boot, which counts for something in a boot experience, not waiting months. Then there’s sizing, which is hit and miss with makers like Peng. I probably should have elaborated more in the video so it didn’t look like a wild claim 😂 Anyways, you might be right; I guess I can assess Peng’s work better once I get my pair. Even if he’s not the absolute best bang for your buck, you’re right that Peng probably is up there in the top 3 or something.
      As for the Indonesians, they are still needing to improve much of their design. And they unfortunately still do not have access to many of the materials, construction methods, and machinery Viberg has. It doesn’t mean Viberg is objectively “better”, but it does mean you’re getting more stuff for each dollar you spend. Whether or not that stuff is worth it to a given person is up to them.
      Does that make sense? What do you think?

    • @SpaniardDH
      @SpaniardDH 2 года назад +1

      That’s all true and making sense, but I think that with Viberg, you’re paying the exclusivity tax, the ‘I am a Viberg boot owner tax’. I know you can translate this to an another valid fact already mentioned: you’re paying the ‘no waiting’ for an almost bespoke article, if you nailed the size, which is a tricky one.
