Anyone that hasn't seen the Last Waltz in its entirety owes it to themselves to watch it. It features some of the greats from the '60s and '70s in a terrific movie directed by Scorsese.
The Last Waltz was the greatest concert I ever seen the movie was just a chopped up highlight film. The Staples Singers couldn't make the concert that song was done at a later date
I have a copy of the album and I’ll send Harri my DVD copy of the whole show! Albert Smith is absolutely right. Saw Dylan and the Band in 1983 or 4. Awesome.
Actually, Helpless, written by Neil Young, was first recorded by CSNY in 1970 and was on their Deja vu album. Which I spent many nights laying in our front yard in southern Florida staring up at the crystal clear stars and the milky way with that album blasting on our VW bus 8-track player. Bob Dylan's Knocking on Heaven's Door came out 3 years later. So IT may have sounded like Helpless, not the other way around. Great live version with all these wonderful musicians if that era right here! 😁✌❤
You know the band is good when they can play other artists songs and make it your favorite version. And when a legend like Neil Young says it’s his greatest pleasure to be on that stage

Neil Young spent his childhood years in Omemee, Ontario. It is located about 1.5 hours drive north-east of Toronto. The song is, as far as I know, is of his memories of growing up there...... Keep on diving into The Band, and Neil Young.
Neil wrote the song. I remember reading an interview with Dylan (for the "new" Spin magazine after years of Dylan never doing interviews) where he said that when he first heard Old Man by Neil Young, he felt like it should have been his song. I was really surprised because Old Man sounds nothing like Dylan. But Dylan and Neil have that kind of symbiosis. And Dylan's old backing band is backing Neil Young on this song. I think Joni Mitchell was in the background because she hadn't yet stepped out for her set in the concert. Saving her for a surprise.
@@lathedauphinot6820 Actually what I read was that Dylan just had a feeling "that should have been my song" and not a feeling that Young had copied him. I think it was Old Man, but too lazy to go up into my back house to get that issue.
Mitchell takes this performance and sends it right up to the heavens . The Goddess Muse hidden from view behind the veil no matter the reason makes it all the more compelling and sublime and they all I presume knew it would . Three chords knocked clear out of the park .
Can a jam session be anymore entertaining? Neil Young 2 nights in a row, then you throw in The Band and Joni Mitchell. Fantastic. Only way to make a Neil Young song better, add more Canadians. Lol. I hear the Bob Dylan song you're talking about. Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Miss Blondie. Amazing choice. 👏 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦

Beautiful performance. Love how Neil Young is just smiling through the whole thing. Consider just watching The Last Waltz all the way through. I’ve watched hundreds of times.
Without question, Neil was feeling "better" thanks to some performance enhancing substance(s), He could barely stand up at he end of the concert when all artists shared the stage. Not a knock on Neil - he sure was very happy under the influence, and he performed "Helpless" flawlessly/superbly.
Neil wrote it, but now that you bring it up, it does sound like Dylan's "Knockin". Neil wrote "Helpless" first, 1970. This whole concert is killer! I must have seen it a hundred times!
