There's a couple of reasons for that. The tourism hadn't boomed at todays standards so there were less foreign visitors overall, also job opportunities were scattered all over the country and not just centered in Paris and the bigger cities which didn't force workers to move to the capital for work like today. Then the biggest most obvious one. Massive immigration.
@@lvhcorp Yeah, 1994 hinted by the Lion King decorations around MacDonalds, which probably couldn't be there before the premiere in France in October 3, 1994. So this is the earliest possible date and I had some doubts on the exact month because Christmas decorations may start to appear pretty early and disappear as late as at the end of January.
@@corwin.macleod I like this kind of investigation :D The ultimate clue, from my perspective, is at 1:17 You can recognize the "Timecop" poster on the UGC movie theater. A movie released the 30th November in France. Plus, not so many kids in the streets, apart from a class in front of a toy store, but all with their schoolbags, so not yet in holidays. Usually, Christmas holidays start around the 21st of December. I exclude January because it seems to be quite "hot" in the video, and January was waaaaay colder than December back then (I live in Paris). (sorry for my rusty english!)
@@lvhcorp That's awesome, you can do wonders with knowledge you have as a local, I had to actually dig historical weather data online :D I did a lot of those researches while archiving a bulk of 90s-00s vhs tapes. It was quite entertaining. One of those was a about a school trip to France, hence my interest in these videos. (English isn't my first language too, yours is fine as far as I can tell :3)
@@corwin.macleod I'm happy I could validate your assumptions about the time period of this video. On my side, I'm collecting street videos of Paris from 1985-2005 as it was during this period I think the "mood" was the best (very personal opinion of course) and I would like to travel back in time thanks to such videos.
Looked beautiful and less crowded than today.
No smartphones more awareness
More cars then and much much less cyclists
There's a couple of reasons for that.

Pre-911, pre-social media, pre-wokism.. I miss those days..
The left wing destroyed this beautiful French culture
That time it was an european city and not an african-arab city in the heart of the Europe.
Love the traditonal French music. Such a beautiful culture.
no arabs what a paradise it was
Sad buttrue
Anybody know the name of the music that begins at 8:08?
if I hadn't taken another look at the title, I'd have thought this was downtown san francisco
Would be nice to know what the month was. Nov-Dec?
Seems to be first half of December 1994.
