Great technique, thank you! I just started felting and made a little Chickadee who needs some legs. This makes so much sense to pre-wrap the wire!!

Thank you for sharing. I didn't have the dexterity to coat the wire evenly with florist tape and my birds are quite small. So in the end I used coated wire. It's a brilliant technique and the coated wire looks quite good

I've tried this but I'm having a problem with the floral tape unraveling a little bit - do you have any hints to prevent that from happening? Thanks so much!!

Did you trim the floral tape in half or quarters length wise? Definitely hold it down as you go squeeze it to the wire with each wrap. Also I'd note that some floral tape is stickier then others and doesn't adhere as well.
