Just found you because of White Pelicans. I found them by watching the Mississippi Flyway.
Welcome to the channel!
During my youth on a farm outside of Burlingame Kansas, I used to see large flocks of these pelicans on a large US Corps of Engineer containment pond/lake. From a distance they almost look like geese. One time a friend and I were watching them and saw an injured bird and my friend decided to wade into the pond and see if he could catch it. As he did, he sat down next to a rattlesnake who was warming itself in the sun and pretty inactive or else he would have been bitten for certain. We decided it best to abandon the thought of catching the pelican and instead retreated to the safety of home. They are beautiful birds. Thanks for bringing back some memories.
Glad you didn't get bitten.
I saw a whole flock of white pelicans today, on a small lake just outside of Madison, SW Wisconsin.. wish I hadn’t been driving so I could take a few pics. It was quite unexpected!
Also I saw a sand hill crane in the same city on a walk around a pond. A red wing blackbird kept attacking its backside but the crane just paid it no mind and kept on walking and dipping its beak into the water/mud
Very cool. Nesting is on the rise in they part of the world.
I watch the Mississippi Flyway on you tube and the camera is zBrice Prairie, WI. You have amazing bird life!!!
