For those that seem like it’s too small for how tall they are (6’4”, myself) get dirt bars, adjust the rear brake pedal so you don’t have to crunch your foot and ankle to get above it. Get a thicker premium seat. Adjust the driver pegs if you have extra long or short legs for how tall you are. Taller people often have more back problems. Maybe consider an aftermarket or personally created back rest. My back rest is the cooler I use for doordashing on the bike and storage when not. I’m 6’4” 270 lbs. (Ik, im heavy, got some good chub left and stretched skin but also got a very good amount of muscle, to where my triceps and other things are quite defined, just barely before the beginning of vascular body %). Bike is super quick and fast even with my fat tall muscley ass riding it. R779 conversation. Take the cams, valve springs, valves, etc, basically the entire top end of an r1, put them in the fz8 and it’ll fit because the fz8 engine is based on the r1 engine. Goes from 106hp to 143hp. Yamaha sells a performance upgrade package that is basically the top end of an r1, but upgraded. If you got cash, fork it out and you have one hell of a powerful bike that’s also a beautiful conversation starter A good tip: long exhaust pipes increase torque in high rpms. Short exhaust does exactly the opposite.
Good review, If you gripe is power compared you higher powered bikes, it is the wrong bike. Would think power is ok for the bike in normal trafic. Otherway around, why don't your mates adjust to the slowest of the group? You still have it? Eyeballing one second hand, any things I need to check, model specific weak points?
Good review! would like to see some handling and not just straight roads though. If the mirrors are so bad, get some other ones? And with the busa and the 1st/2nd gear issue at 30, I'd just change sprocket sizes if it bothered me. Did that with a quad bike I had.
I have a 2012 WGP Anniversary Model and have no challenge at all keeping up with my litre bike buddies. The bike is tame and street manageable @ 5,000 rpm and below. In the 7,000+ rpm range it is an absolute terror. It's like two completely different bikes. No disrespect intended at all, but maybe hone your riding skills a bit for the faster pace? This bike is not slow or lacking in sharp handling at speed. It is scary fast above 7,000 rpm to redline.🙂 I totally agree that the mirrors are absolutely hideous looking and function poorly, like an afterthought grabbed from the general parts bin at Yamaha, added on before shipping it out. 😐 I replaced them with aftermarket immediately.
@Live Free Moto True top speed really doesnt matter on the bike, if I really wanted to have the feature I could use a gps speedo on my phone and yeah I could also do the math for mpg ,but I like to see little luxuries and easter eggs in bikes like that hahaha One thing I didnt metion is a gear indicator that is definetly a luxury I would like to have even though its not needed.
Thanks Dude, very nice report. I just bought a 2012 FZ8 too because I'm getting back on after 14 years (Fazer 600 at the time). Good-natured bike. Keep it up :-) Very objective report.
I’m trying to get this 2011 from someone on fb market place super excited about it gonna be my first bike I’m glad you said good things about it for the most part
Nice bike! Fellow Iowan and former Hayabusa owner myself. Good to hear your opinions on the fz8. I am picking up another motorcycle again sometime and have been debating between one or a f4i
I hit a deer the other morning on my FZ6, I much appreciated the weight, Pretty sure I blacked out and when I came back to I was still upright and rolling. I thought for sure I was going to eat pavement.
I have a pretty bad back looking to get the FZ1 FZ8 or the MT-09 I'm coming from an R6 I'm worried the FZ will be too slow for me and I'll get bored of it definitely still going to keep my R6 but just want something more comfortable maybe just a little faster than my R6 would you still recommend the FZ8 but I would get the fairing version
I love the fz6, 8, and 1 fazer models with the bikini fairing. But it's hard to look past the 800s lack of power compared to all the 750 to 950cc bikes in the class. I think you should go with the 1000. It's as fast as your 600 was and weighs the same as the 800.
I went back and counted the shifts I was in 6th. I didnt really need to be in 6th but its more fuel efficent to be in that gear and it also cuts down on vibrations. In the begining though I was doing 65 in 3rd with a safe rpm range.

Of course it could also be just me the only bike that i can ride on for 200 300 km plus without a brake are stuff like bmw 850gs or similar
@@Aridrona it is not horrible on an fz8 but it is not a big bike. I would say up to 180 cm height it is fine. It is fine for me also just for shorter trips. I put ohlin suspesion front and back and bike just flies.

Awesome to see you on an FZ8 not enough on YT
I got a 2013 ,its plenty powerful and comfortable seating ,descent brakes
Sweet looking too
Love it
Been thinking of getting on myself thb!! Havent been able to see/find if the bike has gear indicators on it stock tho (for 2012-13 models)
@@dabnature8111It doesn't. Still a great bike though!

i've had a 2013 for the last 4 years and love it. personally im fine with no electronic aids
I would love to see something a little more interesting in the intstrument cluster like MPGs or maybe top speed

"I'm a shorter rider at 5'9"
Meanwhile, I'm over here at barely 5'1 ready to buy this bike lol
I got Fazer 8 2011 love it , got a real good flow good breaks heaps power over take heaps after market parts to custom . Love to try mt09 next
Inseam measurement is much more useful when describing seat height vs feet down.
Total height does very little for the viewer.
Thank you ! For me, the funny thing about speed with a bike, is not to be able to jail speed, it's a good and strong acceleration.
For the mirrors, why dont your buy good aftermarket ??

its only to 2013 year at most for this bike what do you expect they stop producing them so they arent as modern as they should be
Only use them to see if a cop is flashing you, otherwise, look over your damn shoulders.
how about fuel consumption?
FZ8 has 106 hp not 90hp
Fz8 has 116 not 106
90hp if you do too many wheelies. 116hp when you change the exhaust, open up the air box etc.
I’m 6’3 an I feel comfortable on it lol
are thete no corners there
Whats the diff between mt09 and fz8
The engine is the major difference - The FZ8 has an in-line 4 whereas the M09 is a triple. Really not the same bike at all.
Is it big enough for someone that's 6ft4
Same here man. Sucks being tall looking for a comfortable motorcycle😂
I'm 6'1" and mine is comfortable
biggest winge is mirrors??? change em
