Piece of advice, 99% of terraria players try to make a hellevator, which is just is digging straight to the bottom of the world in one line. Helps with finding underground chests and ore you’ll need for armor and weapons.
Also try getting max health from heart crystals that are everywhere underground and max mana by making mana crystals out of fallen stars on the surface that appear at night

gold/platinum is the best ore before you do any bosses.
