The tricky part is that Zambia clearly doesn't want them there and can use their Ghanaian citizenship as grounds for deportation. The question then is, do they want to be deported out of the country in which they were born and raised? I know for a fact Ghana will take them in with open hands.
@@brayaw9490bro you don’t know what you are talking about , One thing is not Zambia but Gambia , two is if Gambia didn’t want them ,they wouldn’t have been in Gambia since 1950s
These Ghanaians never integrated into our Gambian society. Most of them were born in Ghana. Gambia is a very tiny country with limited resources and I think those little resources should be reserved for Gambians. They already have Ghanaian passport, a free land in the Gambia, means of production, access to basic education and healthcare so why do they need Gambian citizenship?
Didn't you hear them say they don't have access to Ghanaian citizenship? They don't have Ghanaian passports, they are stateless and have no citizenship to any country at all, and so they don't enjoy any of the opportunities available to Gambian citizens. I think you should listen to the report carefully.
Absolute rubbish, these are the people we call educated illiterate in our societies, people who can't look at the other side of a coin before talking. Little resources to be reserved for Gambians indeed,
One thing I want to make clear to those commenting based on the constitution of the Gambia that one of our parent has to be a Gambian for us to be given nationality is that, Ghana-town is older than the Gambian constitution. Before independence we were here our grandparents voted for independence, we don't prefer Gambia to Ghana but we need to fight for our right to be dual citizen to maintain the legacy of our grandparents, they were men who cross borders during a time when many people have not travelled across their villag is a legacy we want to maintain. I have to be able to boast of being both a Gambian and a Ghanaian because of the journey my grandparents embarked on. So all the talk about the constitution say this and that are not relevant in our case.
The young man who missed out on a scholarship opportunity should have applied for a Convention Travel Document (CTD) which is guaranteed to all stateless people in their host countries.
Which brothers wake up from sleeping, this stupidity is only us that accept it , Ghana deport Liberians born in Ghana not long ago. Country are deporting Sierra leoneans as I'm writing this comment right now , we are a small country
Unfortunate. Modern nation states have become problematic for many rural folk who were previously unused to formal borders and visa protocols and traversed sea and land easily to make a living. The days when one could move without a formal visa are over. ECOWAS or AU should address this problem. Fishermen, herdsmen are unfortunate victims.
They must be crazy, what are you doing with Gambian citizenship when you're a Ghanaian. Gambia is a failed state and Ghana is about 50 years ahead of Gambia. What are they doing there OMG 😢
It doesn't mean we are never coming to Ghana each year many of us travel to Ghana, so many have properties in Ghana, but as it was rightly said it's our right to have dual citizenship.
So for the number of years they've stayed in the Gambia, they never bothered to obtain any official documents? Also why hasn't the Gambian authority deported them?
Gambia refuses to grant citizenship to his own citizens; how can you develop with this? All human resources in your country are not consistent in contributing to your development.
All you need to get a Ghanaian passport is proof that your parents or grandparents are Ghanaians. The Ghana embassy in Gambia should be responsible for that unless the people don't want to be Ghanaians.
Some of us have Ghanaian passport but it necessary for us to be given the right of dual citizenship because even with Ghanaian passport the Gambia immigration will force you to be paying permit yearly which we think is not right our grandparents were here before independent and they were part of the people who voted for independence. At that time many of the people talking rubbish about our çitizenship were not born. We don't prefer Gambia above Ghana but we have to respect the legacy of our grandparents to get our right in the country they also fought for her independence.
Provisions in our Constitution and the Immigration Act: provide for any person who has been resident in The Gambia for a period of not less than fifteen years and satisfies all the conditions, may apply for NATURALIZATION. Therefrom, becomes a citizen of The Gambia.
Sir, I believe under the Citizenship and Naturalization Act, living in the Gambia for 15yrs is not sufficient to apply for naturalization. Citizenship by naturalization requires you to give up or renounce any other nationality the applicant may have. These people, by virtue of their stateless status, are not qualified.
@@Hydara_Hassan As I mentioned, the individual must also "satisfy all the conditions". Please note that this is our interpretation of the requirements. Ultimately, the Honorable Minister, who has the authority to grant citizenship, has the discretion to make the final decision.
