  • The PACCAR Automated Transmission completes PACCAR’s proprietary powertrain puzzle, after the release of the Forty Thousand Pound PACCAR Axle last year and the continued evolution of the PACCAR MX engine lineup.
    Designed for line-haul applications up to 110,000 lbs gross vehicle weight, the PACCAR Automated Transmission is spec’d for engine ratings up to five hundred and ten horse power and 1,850 lb.-ft. of torque.
    I caught up with Kyle Quinn and Jorge Medina to get the details on the transmission’s design and Peterbilt’s powertrain plan going forward.
    Buckle up as I get my hands on the new Peterbilt integrated powertrain and dive into the specs on this episode of On the Road.

    Watching this broke down on the side of the road with the service light flashing and trans fault on. 5hrs from my destination with this same transmission... 😬 It’s gonna be a long night.

    I very much prefer a manual, but the company I work for mostly has automated trucks, so that's what I'm rolling with for now. As long as my truck is clean and running right. I'll drive manual or automated trans.

    Is the Peterbilt 579 and Kenworth T680 with automated manual only available with Paccars Automated manual? I know Volvo has the I shift. Mack has the M drive and the Freightliner has the DT12 and I know Intertrashional has Eaton Ultra shift which is made by Eaton Fuller and they suck on the International Transtar.

    Probably like every other automatic wont accelerate, won't pull, and has software problems....I'll keep my 10 speed and shift it my self until they can make one that won't make you pull out in front of traffic at 5 freaking mph!!!

      A properly programmed Ishift is absolutely amazing. Was able to start in 5th, skip shifted quickly and had plenty of power. I just got a 2017 579 with Eaton UltraSHIT and some...person....has Progressive Shift enabled and let me tell you this thing is an absolute POS to drive Bobtail/light load. I can honestly accelerate quicker with a load than bobtailing until about 25. Luckily my boss is letting me get it reprogrammed tomorrow.

    The enduranceTrans 12 speed is a junk actually Not the mechanical it’s all the software , up shifting Uphill 6 & 7 gears blinks 4-6 then engaged & downshifting uphill from 12 in to 11,10 & 9 gears takes 4-6 blinks before engages again , with 80,000 pounds 4-8 grades hill you’re losing to speed and momentum , the engine break thanks 3 blinks about 2 seconds downshifting in lower gear every time on downhill 4-6 Grade in till it’s thinking to downshift it’s too late needs to go back in a higher gear , this software is a junk I don’t recommend to any to buy this junk Transmission, does a problem they’re testing a brand new and bobtail try after 100,000 miles And full loaded truck , and every time they doing a software update they charging you $$$$ but there is no difference even worse it gets , that’s my advice stay away away but you’re choosing not me I already did and I regret I should get Allison CT10, Paccar never less on the customer

    • @ajsdriver7988
      @ajsdriver7988 5 лет назад

      The dealer can change settings for it. I HAD the quicker settings. It was a beast on hills holding speed. I would downshift to 9th with the button and hold it with manual.
      PB came to work on it and reset to "factory" settings. It gets on hwy at 25 mph. Dies at red light on slight incline. Engine lugs because it's in the wrong gear. It truly sux to drive a broken machine. Also FYI, in higher settings it lurches when you service brake too much. Pressure changes. Just put in Neutral and throttle. It'll readjust it to normal. It's a glitch. But considering the beast you get on hills, I'd take it!
      I'm seriously company shopping. Don't want to die.

    I like manual to feel, have better Control of everything...I had a abs failure once in my car and I was pressing the brake but the brakes were not working....we never know when the electronics would malfunction....the technology is not fully developed... automatic would reduce stress and more benefits...
    But why do these things....are we searching for our ancestors in space..

    • @christianbeatzzz8313
      @christianbeatzzz8313 6 лет назад

      JeepCherokeeful very true...autogear and there ABS fail at many times leading to brake failure and loss of Control.one day I had to put two wheels on the sand and two were on the Road and the brakes became nonresponsive leading to a accident.Some of these auto ABS sensors do malfunction after heating if you constantly drive for 1000 miles and the brake pedal response becomes different after they heat up.Even a Good EMF wave can Disturb the ECM to break down...21st century seems so easy as you get auto gear on the City roads but when you dig deep you will be gald that we are living in this time and not the future...

      Christian Beatzzz Was in northern Manitoba last week, I’ve made up my mind, a few roads were packed snow and ice plus encountered a couple short steep hills, nothing I want to negotiate on the regular with only a couple buttons to manage the limited traction. I’m driving a Volvo I-Shift these days, it’s ok but I wouldn’t trust it on the Alaska Highway, for example. Plus it’s one more thing to have fail. Very helpful for new drivers though.

    • @wanderingfido
      @wanderingfido 3 года назад

      There's been a 2% uptick in trucking accidents since you asked this question (two years ago). There are two theories that are yet to be backed up by hard data:
      _Theory_ One) Drivers are becoming inattentive and easily diverted by things such as social media, tech, and texting. The distraction is exacerbated by automatic/automated transmissions rather than helping to minimize divided attention required to manually shift. But this transmission idea could be null and void because cruise control with a sufficiently high differential gear ratio (no weak overdrive) doesn't require careful attention either.
      _Theory_ Two) Drivers are speeding to meet deadlines since they now need to use ELDs. And can no longer fudge paper-based logs. This would lend more weight behind the speed limiter idea. Which drivers claim will be a win against their struggle to earn a living.

      I think the Paccar engine is 13 liter and honestly 13 liter is too small for tractor trailers regardless of the transmission. Ive driven International Transtars with the Navistar N13 and it sucks and so does the DD13 on the Freightliner Cascadia. I have driven Cummins ISX 15s on International Prostars and LTs and they are great and so is the DD15 on the Cascadia.

That means that I can no longer put pressure on my left foot for clutching. Yes I’m lazy. I hope in your lifetime you never have to experience pain. I wish you the best in your life without pain. But when that day comes that you feel pain just think”It’s not real, it’s all an allusion!” Pain is good for you it lets you know that you’re still breathing and alive.
