    Fun Fact: the uncut version of Robocop was first released on laserdisc by Criterion. It was scheduled to be released in 1995 but was delayed for over a year and was finally released in late 1996-97.
    As a teen I saw Robocop opening weekend. It was mind blowing. Many thought the original TV ads looked stupid and goofy, then it got great reviews and word of mouth to become a hit that played all summer. The satire felt more like a terrifying warning about corporations running everything. Thanks for the video Tony.

      I don't get the whole censoring to begin with.

If u grew up pre streaming, internet cast, or even cable on-demand services Era, it was an understandable practice.

    I should point out, when Murphy does the gun spin trick for lewis, as a responsible gun owner he does it unloaded for safety and when he is done you can see him reload his weapon and holster it
    When he is in Robocop form I bet his gun has a trigger or maybe a 1911 style grip safety(more likely) to keep the gun from going off

      @drmott666 Год назад +4

      Well typically the gun twirl is done with single action revolvers meaning if you don’t cock the hammer back it can’t be fired same thing with the 1911. The auto-9 is not single action only and has no grip safety however it may have a higher trigger pull plus with Robocop it could be machine precision that allows him to do it but while I by no means recommend anyone do it with a loaded gun especially without safety on and decocked hammer I have done it with a beretta (not loaded) without pulling the trigger by accident. The auto-9 is a modified beretta 93r. All that being said it is a nice touch that Murphy unloaded his gun before doing it. And a nice catch on your part. I never noticed that before

    • @VitaminStudios

    The Auto 9 is a Beretta 93R-Raffika burst fire machine pistol. The slide is replaced by a longer but heavier brigadier slide with a tall competition style iron sights. Threaded to the barrel is a ribbed casket shaped compensator with considerable barrel extension ending in six ports, three left and right of the top of the front post sight and top rib between the compensator front sight and the slide front sight. Apparently it’s so front heavy that spinning the machine pistol is very difficult. The original idea was to use a Desert Eagle Mk 1 extended barrel but the compensator mockup was much smaller in comparison to Peter Weller in costume.

    My 1st time seeing RoboCop: It was 88 or 89, I would have been 5 or 6. My parents add a massive bookshelf behind their bedroom door crammed with both purchased and recorded VHS tapes. I had caught predator on TV one day, then asked my mom if we could buy it. But she said we already had it on one of the recordable tapes. After predator finished RoboCop followed. I asked her what it was as it was starting. She said something to the effect of it's about a policeman that gets turned into a robot policeman. Needless to say it became my newest favorite movie. As always VF&VI Tony, GREAT review. And T, the toxic melting scene also made me feel uncomfortable at that age. But to date it's still my favorite scene of the entire film, as far as my favorite line it's still, "can u fly Bobby?"

    I'm looking forward to see Tony review the Robocop reboot, since it was directed by Jose Padilha, the guy who directed Elite Squad 1 and 2. In interviews, he always avoid talking too much about Robocop, but it's implied he just used this as an opportunity to be seen by hollywood, since brazilian directors don't often get a chance like this.
    He also mentioned somewhere that the studio had a huge impact in the final product, so what I can take from this is that he was just put there as a cheap obligation, because the studio already had everything in their minds before they started shooting. And it's a shame because his style, while leaning more towards realism, can be tweaked to something like what paul verhoeven does in his films.
    Samuel L Jackson's character is also something he brought direct from Elite Squad 2, where there was a TV host praising the police actions between the scenes, which fits in Robocop's narrative pretty well imo.

    RoboCop is an absolute MASTERPIECE. Not a single, solitary second of that film feels superfluous. It's INCREDIBLY tight film making with EVERYTHING having a legit purpose to the story and character's. It's just as fresh and relevant today as it was when it 1st came out, and it will continue to be the next 37 years.
    As for RoboCop 2, there are some decent parts in it but overall it's a disappointing sequel. It feels really dated at times (which the 1st part doesn't), they basically do away with Murphy's development from part 1, for whatever reason, only to do the same thing again but absolutely nowhere as well executed. The dialogue, satire, and commentary is nowhere as solid or smart, the villain of Cain overall was very weak, the CEO of OCP felt like a totally different character, having a 12 year old running the biggest drug gang/business in Detroit was really idiotic, Lewis feels very underutilized, etc. It's just really..."meh".

    Nah they didn't transfer Murphy to that district because he was a good cop, but because he was an arrogant one who wouldn't wait for backup. I think they do a good job of showing how he thinks he's a big fish in a little pond. He's cocky, and that's why he was selected to be transferred to a district that gets a lot of cop fatalities.
    But yes, he was transferred as part of an attempt to rush the process of finding a donor body. I love that the movie never actually explains any of this. Today, there would be lengthy, dialogue heavy scenes, explaining to the audience exactly what was up.

    Take from someone who own all Three movies on VHS as a kid when they came out with a directors cut of the very first one I was like I gotta watch it and liked it a little more than the theatrical cut always a solid action and sci-fi movie in every sense of the word

      NO.....There is a massive difference between actual Thermal vision which actually exists and night vision. They are not interchangeable in any universe whatsoever. They literally use night vision and thermal vision cameras constantly on those ghost hunting shows

    • @Nicolas.Vincent
      @Nicolas.Vincent Год назад

      @@lutherheggs451Yes, in Predator they used colour filters to augment black or white ops to represent the Predator's thermal vision.

    I didnt realise you owned a shop (as their called in other Countries) I probably should have realised, that's a good idea youve come up with, great publicity.
    They could have called it- R.R products after Ronnie ray gun (whom the old man character is based on) the costume concept was designed by Miles Tevez,(who also worked on both Bat man & IRON MAN suits) not Rob Bottin in fact Bottin was a kind of Art Director, with others working under him. the same situation with Stan Winston.
