- Shanice Lorraine Wilson was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and relocated to Los Angeles, California with her mother and aunt at the age of 8. If you think they moved for Shanice’s sake, you’d be wrong. The main reason was their desire to pursue a career of their own in the music industry. However, as Shanice started soaking up the L.A. atmosphere, she decided that she did want to sing as well. She’d already exhibited superior vocal talent at just 7 months, from her crib, humming melodies. As a toddler, her mother and aunt then brought her on stages around Pittsburgh to accompany them. Shanice’s mother and aunt decided their efforts would be best spent shifting their focus to her and formed a management company to cultivate and promote her talents. In addition to her family members, Shanice grew up being influenced by the likes of Chaka Khan, The Emotions, The Clark Sisters, Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston.

Shanice and Flex are still going strong after 23 years of marriage. Now that’s something to celebrate !!! 🎉🎉🎉❤
Yes! I love to hear marriages lasting and getting thru hardships!
@@laurenreneebrittany1797 same here, so happy for them 🎉😊❤
I love Shanice and Flex and they are doing good life is up and downs. May God bless her and her family always
I love their story❤
For people who are use to a certain standard of life, then have the bank account dry up, that's often a deal breaker. But these two cling to each other even through the pauper stages - o, yeah, that's REAL love.
*Let’s be real, almost all stars back in the day were shorted earnings heavily during their careers. Talent was so real and pure. Now there really isn’t any talent and they get paid hefty. This is sad.*
Yep, you're absolutely right, they cared MORE about the talent than the image back then, but now they care MORE about the image than the talent which is REALLY😢💯
ABSOLUTELY TRUE!
And they are just handing out American Music Awards to anybody...
I 1000% agree with you!
Agreed. That's why I root for them to get paid. Especially athletes.
Shanice deserves more credit and she also deserves her flowers while she's still here
Financial strains is one of the leading causes of marriages breaking up. Hats off to this couple for weathering the storm, and staying together. I'm sure it wasn't easy.
I wouldn't even say it's financial strain I'd say it's just lack of communication about finances, wealthy couples divorcing left right and centre while people who are less financially well off might actually tend to stick it out together because they have to and separating would make them fnancially much worse off
so very true...the thing that was amiss here is their faith, they were committed to God and the promise they made to each other
Shanice is a generational talent. "I Love Your Smile" is a classic. "Silent Prayer" is simply beautiful. "It's For You" is an underrated banger.
Don't forget Saving Forever For You.
Yes
Yes Silent prayer her and Johnny Gill did that
@@TheRetroWoman80 Yes That's a great song.
@@iyannasanaa9726 Yes!
Shanice have one of the most beautiful smiles I have ever seen on a person. She should have been so much bigger both beauty and talent. I remember on her reality show Babyface stated between her mother and manager they kept her career going further.
The music industry needs to be regulated because so many artists like Shanice make the record company millions but end up with next to nothing and discarded all too often. The records contracts that many artists sign be so one sided beyond belief.
Regulation only leads to more corruptin
While I wholeheartedly agree, I must add that it should have always been regulated but due to greed and dishonesty and blatant disregard and disrespect for fellow humans, it and other industries with inevitably always be corrupt.
Stop supporting these record labels. That’s the regulation that works.
But the artists decide to sign the contract, no one makes them. It's a free market essentially. How much you earn and how you earn it is something you/your representation agrees to.
@@creating1_c1999 Fame is a drug, many artists have made, still do make, unsound decisions that they later regret while chasing fame. The record labels stay exploiting people and their talents for pennies on the dollar. These records labels are akin to modern day human traffickers.
Star search was the original American Idol, lol
Facts 💯
Without thinking twice, Shanice is the most underrated singer ever.
That was so great of Martin Lawrence and his wife ( at the time) to help them out. I remember when they tried to have a reality show but after a couple episodes it was cancelled.
Her and Flex Alexander are a cute couple. I love your smile is still a bop 👏🏾.
Shanice's Inner Child album was released on the same day as Tevin Campbell's debut album T.E.V.I.N. on November 19th 1991
Shanice is a legend
Shanice's smile is so beautiful.
Shout out to Martin Lawrence for being a beacon of light in a time of need 🙏🏾
It’s a shame that her career didn’t go as planned. Shanice is truly talented and her voice is amazing!
Shanice and her husband are so cute together! 🥰
Despite the trials & tribulations Shanice kept her head up.
I love how she & Flex met…organically. I’m also glad that they both weathered the storms together.
Much respect to their friends for looking out too.
I was 28 years old when I did the back ground vocals for Shanice
I love your smile. Now I will be
60 years old this year fills good
To still here it on the radio. My
Daughter calls me and say daddy
I here your song playing on the
Radio. Lol
Shanice and Flex are the example of a marriage that truly stayed together through thick, thin and the ice broke. May Jesus keep blessing their family. 🙏🙏🙏
Yesterday was a beast of a song. I still listen Shanice jams on a regular basis.
I've always been a fan. "It's For You" and "Turn Down The Lights" are both underrated gems.
Smile is always gonna be in anyone's 90s playlist. It's For You is another favorite banger too from the Meteor Man soundtrack. Glad she and her family are doing well. High five to her and Flex.
She also recorded "If I Never Knew You", a duet with Jon Secada, which appeared in the end credits of the 1995 Disney animated film "Pocahontas", and she contributed background vocals to Toni Braxton's 1996 hit "Un-Break My Heart".
She was dropped from LaFace after her 1999 self-titled album because she was uncomfortable with showing skin in the album's music videos, which many female urban artists of the time were doing in theirs.
May the ancestors bless Flex and Shanice.... two beautiful souls.
Martin Lawrence is a sweetheart. Shanice is beautiful. Her voice is beautiful. God bless her and Flex and their choldren.
I absolutely love Shanice. I love Flex. I love them together. They display love in it's purest form. I'm glad they were able to overcome everything they'd gone through.
Mrs. Shanice is that underrated 90s sensation, she still has that beautiful voice, Flex & Shanice are a couple to be reckoned with.... I send love health wealth abundance and prosperity 👸🏽🧔🏽💛
Mrs Alexander or Mrs. Wilson
Shanice is one of the best musicians of our time,& hats off to her marriage which has experienced a lot of stormy times..
Props to Martin Lawrence. Dude went in clutch to help his friends in their time of need.
PITTSBURGH'S OWN! WE NEVER STOP! LETS GO BABY!
The Label should have allowed her to sing more pop songs like “i love your smile”, pop songs is where she excelled 😢
30 years later and still Beautiful.
Shanice, and Flex
have always carried
themselves, like
loving christians.
Record companies are no less than slithering snakes 🐍
Love Shanice 👑✨🌟☀️🎤🎶🏆🏆🏆♥️
"When I Close My Eyes" is my favorite song by her and an underrated gem. Yes, it charted highly on the Billboard Hot 100, but that's one song I don't remember ever hearing in my childhood and I NEVER hear it played or mentioned. I actually discovered that entire album from her Unsung episode a few years ago. I didn't even realize her career started way back in 1987, but I will admit when I think about her in her prime, I get a late '80s/early '90s vibe, before even knowing she'd been out that long. Side Note: She was so cute and innocent looking as a young girl. She looks like she would've been a perfect fit for those perm kits with the little girls on them that you see in the hair stores.
I still remember her Star Search performance of "Rainbow." Gave me goosebumps as a kid!
Yes yes yes
I Love Your Smile is a timeless classic song
Come on now, that song is horrible
I like to play it on the flute.
Still love it!!
Yes I hate that song 😩 I’m sorry
It’s for you is a bop I keep in regular rotation
Shanice should be a household name. She was part of one of the greatest periods of r&b music around 1986-1995. Sadly, she was mismanaged and suffered some great professional and personal blows but rose above to sustain a solid marriage.
Now this is what you call committed. Going through good and bad times, yet staying committed.❤❤❤
It’s crazy how no matter how much I listen to I love your smile it just makes me smile from ear to ear something about it makes me happy
I also remember Shanice was on Family Matters on the episode Rock Enroll that episode was amazing
I love her song, Saving Forever For You. It’s so beautiful!
She also is very gorgeous! Love her smile
Shanice's second album Inner Child is a classic
I love the song "forever in your love" it has a special energy, plus his voice sounds too powerful in that song
Shanice, Flex and their kids are Royal by DNA. They are in my bloodline. I am looking forward to seeing the incredible things this family does in the very near future.
I love Shanice!! Such a beautiful,powerhouse,ethereal-sounding voice she has❤❤🎤🎶
“I Love Your Smile” & “Silent Prayer” (featuring Johnny Gill) are my favorite songs by her. I was very very disappointed when “Flex & Shanice” show was canceled. I was a big fan & watched it every Saturday night 🥹
Shanice's Inner Child album was released on November 19th 1991 a week after 2Pac's debut album 2Pacalypse Now
Black love sticking together, I love it!❤
Lmao. Hello most black pple are with other black people.
@@riannamoore3062 not all
Kim and Kroy should've taken notes from Shanice and Flex.
Me, too, so wonderful they're still together.
Shanice & Flex ❤ , Her album inner child is a iconic to me…I love Lovin’ You & Hate To Be Lonely
Another great profile piece my sister. Shanice is a truly underated talent. Keep up the blessed work and have a great weekend!
Thank you! You too!
"If I Never Knew You" with her and Jon Secada still slaps til this day. Her "Shanice" album is definitely underrated. I was so upset that they didn't release the video for Yesterday. Glad she posted the rough draft on her RUclips
"Silent prayer" with Johnny Gill...it doesn't get a lot of airplay...but a "Quiet Storm" classic😀💯🎶🎶📻
Oh indeed. They killed that song.
My favorite song
Can't forget she also guest starred in the "Rock Enroll" episode of Family Matters.
I was here for it when I saw it on demand and her and Darrius was good😮💨.
I still think that song they sang should've been a hit single.
I was 16 in 1991..I love your smile bring back some good memories in Germany.
She is so beautiful and I hope they never get divorced. It is so inspiring to see what they have done.
She Really Bagged my Childhood crush from "Juice"
"Silent Prayer" and "This Time" two underrated great songs.
It's for you and when close my eyes are my favorites... she used ASL in the video field her deaf friend... I'm so proud of how her and felx stayed strong in hard Times 😊🙏🏾👏🏾
I have always loved Shanice! Saving forever for you is one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard! My wife and I had our wedding dance to that song! I love that the video is set at Beverly Hills high, and has Brian Austin Greene in the video! Great memories of my teen years n nostalgia
I remember her from Star Search, I love her and Flex, we have to save for the rainy days. Glad they are together and caring for each other.❤️❤️
It's pretty awesome how they went through all that and didn't break their marriage up.
I Love Your Smile was such a solid song. Glad she and Flex are still together
She's so talented. I always loved her music. ❤
Shanice's self-titled album was released on the same day as C-Murder's sophomore album Bossalinie and Harlem World's first and only album The Movement on March 9th 1999
So many beautiful memories watching her grow up from the television 📺! I loved seeing her on Family Matters back in the day! “I love your smile” still gives me tingles till this very day!😊 I wish her and her family nothing but the best!
Black strong love can overcome any obstacle ❤❤❤❤..I love the fact they never gave up on one another
I love how this channel is a “where are they now” of my impressionable youth. I loved Shanice’s 1991 album, remember every song. Great to learn what came before and since. ❤
I loved their reality show and was sad when it went off the air. The show was positive and entertaining.
One of my favorite childhood artists ❤
Love her and her husband-they are so gifted! I pray they will continue to prosper ❤
I’m remembering being totally sold on the debut 'Discovery' cd. I just loved it. Still listen to those tracks to this day.
I 💓 'Can u Dance', "Summer Love"
@@mitzithompson6585 "I Think I Love You"
I love Shanice & Flex. I’m glad to hear the story had a happy ending. Much love!
juicyPop I love how when you are bringing up movies you give the exact genre like "Romantic Adventure Comedy...." It's like your signature kinda
Shanice is a great singer" 💘 her singing", bless shanice always a fan " 🥰
Juicy pop always pops! Keep giving us great mini bios❤👏👏👏👏👏👍All of her music is dope but next to ILYS, I played Forever In Your Love and that Inner Child interlude so many times back then that I lost count. Her voice touches the soul sweetly and gently. Kudos to Shanice for surviving tough times💪🧘
Hats off to this King & Queen. There is nothing more powerful than hearing Our stories of Triumph. What Our struggle as a people is teaching us is that, We are Intentionally Created by The Most High, Survivors, & able to Conquer. 🙏🏿🤴🏾👸🏾🙌🏾
WE LOVE YOU SHANICE & FLEX!!!❤️❤️❤️❤❤MORE BEST FUTURES🌈BLESSINGS💝PRAYERS🙏😍👍
Shanice is one of those artists that releases an album just when a musical trend is about to end.
Shanice is such a Beautiful soul❤😍
Love you Shanice such a beautiful voice ❤️ Shanice and Flex are a beautiful couple 💑 God bless y'all 🙌 Y'all still going strong love y'all always ❤️ 🎉❤🎉😊
Yeahhh I only know 2 songs by her!! But they both still banger tracks til this very day!! 💪🏾💪🏾💖💯....I never knew about the commercial neither lol, but I see she carried on all the "do do's" from it over to I love your smile!! 🤭🤭🤗🤗😍😍🤣🤣 Cute!! When I close my eyes was my other iisshh from her growing up!! 🥰🥰💃🏾💃🏾💖💯
I’m always liked shanice. She very beautiful, talented and sassy and flex was hella lucky man been with her.❤️
Flex and Shanice exemplify Black Love. Through all the hardships in their marriage they still weathered the storm together.
I feel as though Shanice and Michel'le are two of the most underrated singers! With their vocals, style, and presence they should have been as big as Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston (R.I.P.). Thanks for this video. Your documentaries are always great.
Shanice still has a great smile 😀 and her song I love your smile reminds me of my early teenage years
I hated they kept putting her on the back burner. My mom had gone to an industry event in 96 and they said they wouldn't keep her on the back burner but they did.
It was heartbreaking to me because fun fact we knew each other in Junior High School.
It is very sad when they sideline awesomeness.
Cool story bru
She probably wouldn't play the game they want you to play. The ones who succeed aren't about talent. They might have talent but did something to stay on top. Same thing with acting industry
@@AS-wj1duExactly this
Its For You was everything to me as a youngster. Still absolutely adore that song. Still smile, dance and do all the moves. ❤
I can't believe _LaFace_ records dumped her because she was pregnant! That album was/is amazing and with the right promotion it could've made them MILLIONS!
_I love your smile, that’s my mother’s favorite song as well as mines_
I like your videos. Have you made a video about Tracie Spencer? She and Shanice were so talented. They deserved better than what the industry did to them.
I did! Check it out. ruclips.net/video/-oVqvihYAAI/видео.html
My favorite top three singers of all time Janet,Tracie Spencer,Shanice
It's For You still slap!!!
I wish it was on streaming platforms 😢
Brian Austin Green also appeared in Shanice's Saving Forever for You video and I think the girl who said the boy's right around the hall sounded like Alisa Reyes from All That, The Proud Family and One World
Well done Shanice,
And Congrats on your comeback👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🙏🏽💕
Glad Shanice and Flex is doing great right along with their children's
GOOO Shanice....you the BEST🎉🎉🎉🎉😊
Her talent was up there with Mariah and Whitney. Labels didn't know what to do with her. Clive Davis could have made her a huge star. She needed a machine and great material behind her.
that's precisely why they put her on the back burner. she would've been right in league with Whitney and Mariah.
@@MrTimeless101 Shanice just didn't have the powerful music man behind her like they did. She never got top tier material to sing either. I always had she been packaged right and presented correctly she would have been a superstar.
Love Shanice one of my 90s faves
Now that's a true power couple, staying together for better and for worst. I'm telling you 90's couples are way stronger then couples nowadays.
She’s a beautiful woman and has a respectable career! Very happy she and Flex are still married
I love Shanice so much! I didn't know about the hardships she went through! But I know she's strong af!!!
