Cant stress enough the money aspect being the wrong reason to get into this. Definitely can make money but can also lose it pretty quick on racks and vet care and failure to breed issues. By far best sit down talk you have had yet man. So many amazing points on this one!

Excellent questions interviewing two individuals who obviously LOVE the hobby FIRST… and the business aspect SECOND. Impressive and I know it’s just the very tip of the iceberg with more and more people realizing what truly amazing pets Hoggies are… reminds me of when Ball Python Morphs could be listed on a single 8 X10 paper… then they exploded into a “Stephen King” length novel. Lots and lots of growth coming soon. As you mentioned: supply and demand. I ❤️ all my snakes but there’s just something that brings a smile to my face with my Hogs.
Best Regards and MUCH RESPECT from Toronto, 🇨🇦

Definitely glad I got an albino and a lavender to pair together eventually. Damn if it's that hard to hit a coral maybe I better keep all those het babies! Lol 😂
Or trade for some same hets so I don't have to inbreed.😊

Great interview.. really good points covered.. when I built my racks I wanted multiple sized tubs to use or interchange.. just starting out as a hognose breeder ourselves.. Seraphim Serpents.. my wife and I had wondered at what point does it change from hobby to business.. I've kept snakes over the last 35+ years but first year breeding.. only 3 clutches but it's our start. And no not expecting to retire just yet from day job😁.. have several breeders I talk with or visit with and pick their brains for info and what works for them then adjust as needed.. also watching videos from you as well as other big breeders..currently struggling with getting the lil ones feeding and out up on the Market.. keep up the great interviews.. we'll keep looking for em😁

      Hey John,
Wondering what scents (if any) you have tried on the newly hatched babies? Also are you using rat or mice pinkies as they obviously smell differently. I used to breed Ball Pythons exclusively but fell in love with Hoggies. I’ve never used live feeders but scenting the food has never failed me… and then transitioning the snake over to a rat (higher fat content) or a mouse has worked well for me.
Anyway just meant as helpful info to digest (pun intended lol). All the best John to you and your wife. Hognose snakes are very underrated where I live and I think it’s an excellent time for getting into “the business”. Congratulations on your first 3 clutches and good luck in any future endeavours.
      Much Respect from Toronto, 🇨🇦
      Chris :)

Jon you said there's nothing else going on with that sunburst but what about the albino gene in there. Was it an extreme red albino or even just a red line hognose? I feel like something like that going affect the color. Either way very pretty snake!

Do you only feed frozen thawed? Have you ever fed live to your hognoses?
