Chase Thomas Honestly I 100% agree. Him dying would have added a more devastating tone to the fight and it would show why Fatalis is such a dangerous threat and why He’s called the God of all Monsters. Because Monster hunter almost never shows characters dying and that would’ve been a perfect time.
What I love is that, in a world full of gigantic monsters of all shapes and sizes, the most dangerous of them all is just an ordinary western dragon. There’s something very cool about them saving a completely traditional dragon for the biggest deal of the lot.

When I started playing over 10 years ago, the Alatreon was the scariest monster around. Now having an oficial fatalis encounter, is like living history.
The fact that this is a repel quest scares me for what ever monster hunter 6/world 2 will have. (For any unfamiliar with Fatalis, there is a version of Fatalis known as Crimson Fatalis which is a Fatalis that was repelled, which fled to a Volcano.) Edit: And now this is my most liked comment, I did not expect that.

Then again it would also be kind of stupid for them to put in Fatalis and not let us kill it. Especially with all of the work they put into Castle Schrade and remaking his fight from the ground up.

As a newcomer to MH, I think the way Iceborne introduces Fatalis is great. . It looks and feels menacing despite just being a "strereotypical" dragon without too much add-ons/shennanigans.
I like how the end of the repel quest feels genuinely apocalyptic. Even Alatreon didn't really capture how a monster literally feels like the end of the world.

But Safi’jiva consumes bioenergy, right? Would it be possible for Safi’jiva to not only kill a Fatalis in a straight fight, but drain it and the surrounding area so completely as to deny Fatalis the chance to regenerate, permanently killing it?

Damn mhw fatalis is a trigger happy version of mh4u. Imagine giving him the blast blight with his fire dust and also his supernova blast breath, this would be one of the most adrenaline rush fights.

It’s progressed to the Crimson Fatalis stage. After we beat it then, it flies away, seemingly into the sun itself and leaving a brief eclipse in its wake. Either in the next game’s Master Rank expansion or the completely new game after that, we find Fatalis yet again, now atop a tower. An eclipse blots out the sun and Fatalis appears once more, though now it’s scales have turned a bright, divine white and it sports hair on its back and head. It appears vastly older than when you faced it last. It has become White Fatalis. This time, it does not retreat and it is killed once and for all, finally finishing the fight started here.

That's the lighter bite, which does fuck all. Fatalis has 3 crawling bites, this one (which does light damage and doesn't knock you off your feet), medium one (signified by the mouth burning as he bites, which does send you flying), and the dragging one (which is the one that multi-hits and js basically a death sentence).
