There's something deeply funny to me about Joey's ace monster originally belonging to a character that never made it into the full anime and then being changed to originally belonging to fucking Rex of all people as the one dragon in his dinosaur deck. Oh and then losing it at the star of battle city and not having it for a season and a half. Truely an ace card unique to him.
If there's one thing I'd change for the first show, it would be having Joey pull Red-Eyes from a booster pack, or something. Yugi could comment on how miraculous a pull that was and that is the catalyst for Joey banking on luck cards so much at the start. Rex would instead have Meteor Dragon in this scenario.
When this movie was being produced, the manga was already on the final stretch of Duelist Kingdom, and Rex vs Joey already happened. If anything, this movie is the one with the nonsense change, since it came out *after* Joey got his Red-Eyes from Rex in the manga.

Kaiba can just buy the best cards, and Yugi has his grandfather who both owns a game shop and is himself a rare card collector, that's where he got cards like Summoned Skull, Dark Magician, Gaia, Exodia etc. Joey could lean on Yugi & his grandpa more probably and he is definitely supported by them, but he's also prideful and doesn't like being given things he doesn't feel he's earned, so he only has a few rare cards outside the ones he wins or is given like Time Wizard. With the exception of remarkably common powerful cards like Pot of Greed, he doesn't have many strong cards/ combinations aside from whatever he pulls since basically he's not buying singles. This the makes the luck cards appealing, as their high roll effects are remarkably strong with the gamble that you might not get it as a counterbalance. He uses Copycat and Graverobber for similar reasons, since they let him use his opponent's strong cards that he wouldn't normally have access to. Time Wizard is basically Raigeki with a coin flip to decide which side of the field it hits, and the dice multiply so Skull Dice is at worst Shrink but slower which is still good and actually cracked at the high end.
Rex had 2 dragons, Serpent Night Dragon which got destroyed by the Green and Red Battleguards (because reason's). That makes 2 dragons in his dino deck. It's weird though that he and Weavil have really crap cards and aren't very good despite them being know to be "high level" duelists at the time of Duelist Kingdom

Yup. According to Yu-Gi-Oh Lore, the blue eyes is considered one of, in not the, most powerful dragon card in the series. The red eyes is almost as strong, but needs a little extra help. If you are will to try, and experiment, that potential will be realised.
Since then, Meteor B. Dragon was forgotten forever in Yu-Gi-Oh anime and movies... While Blue-Eyes has a toxic archetype developed, Meteor B. Dragon remains a vanilla card.
