i’m a costal wolf therian, and i appreciate these videos a lot :) i live in the eastern United States so i don’t get to see wolves often at all, so it’s awesome to see!
Stop the killing of these magnificent creatures, the Wolf here in BC by the government! Thank you 4 this vid. and letting us see, know & experience the beauty of these beautiful, powerful creatures. I was very surprised to see these wolves drinking salt water! 🐺 ❤️
I live in the mainland of Vancouver and I love taking taking a simple moment to take a trip to the island and appreciate the existence of these incredibly unique creatures
Awesome, well done! I kayak the west coast every year and see wolves often. They are shy creatures, typically showing themselves to us after we have been on a beach for a couple of days. Like you, we keep our distance staying in one area of the beach away from them. Watching pups and the interaction between pups and their parents is priceless. One time the pups were too curious and came to our tent. We shooed when away and moments later they were marched single file down the beach, with one parent leading and the other bringing up the rear. The pups did not come back after that, I think they received a lesson that day.
Hi, are you kayaking the Vancouver Island West Coast? I went to the North Coast Trail, We were only two, we camped and saw nothing or heard! It was 2 weeks ago.
Absolutely beautiful creatures and imagery. Makes me proud to live on the wet coast and inspired to actually do something to help protect that beauty. Fantastic work ❤️🌲
Although I live in the States I don't live too far from Vancouver Island. Can't believe I live a short travel distance from this and other wolfpacks (others being east of me). Simply beautiful.
Wow! So beautiful. I live in the middle of Europe, more to the south. Wolfs started to comeback here. But mostly they are not welcome because farmers fear for their life stock (which is their income so to speak). And STILL residents have a fear of those wonderful animals, that they might attack them sooner or later. 😟
I just saw the discussion about this on a newscast in Ontario and immediately went looking for it. As soon as I heard the howls, I burst into tears. I'm so glad you are doing something to bring positive attention to these beautiful animals! The grey wolf is my favourite. Coastal wolves are second. Please keep doing what you're doing and bring more attention so the stupidity of the human race will cease and they will be protected for the future!
Amaziny breathtakingly spectacular I would never have got to witness this in my days if it wasn’t for yall thanks so much southern ON here . I cry while watching wolf documentary’s and captures because always hearing humans end up mirdering them for trophy’s and or hunting purposes it breaks my heart into a million pieces :(
Steve Woods , that is beautiful what you do . Those sorts of imagery of ever so gentle but sadly for a hundreds of years demonised wolfs , are ever so touching and emotional to the core of my being . Just the way how she looks while she drinks a water is something what she has rights to , rights to that water , rights to that air and space where she can move freely . So sad that at the same time I see that nobel spirits that they are still a target of a kill to some .
' Interesting that these lovely & majestic Wolves are described as 'highly intelligent & social animals' so, actually more valuable than Homo saps because more innocent & environmentally sound. Only the brutalist & Planet-wasting Homo saps kill for 'trophies'. How vile!! These photographers are so wonderful. Such a fabulous documentary, thank you.
Hey !! Nice to see what you got from your trip, great stuff. Wish I had some of the tools you had !! I was the paddleboarder who crashed the party. Sorry, had to. It was a real privilege to live with the animals and to walk a mile in their paws. Glad to see them well represented. Thanks
It was a pleasure to meet you! I got a couple cool shots of you off in the distance with your paddle board. Shoot me an email and I'll fire them over when I'm back from filming in mid Feb! maxwelhohn@gmail.com
I’ve been waiting to see this, and it’s magnificent! These beautiful creatures have always been known to the indigenous people, of course, but they appear new to most of us. I wish you much success in endeavouring to open many eyes to these unique wolves and their place in their world. Much respect to @seaforthexpeditions for your dedication and determination.
Thanks very much Dan! It was such a pleasure to be part of the team with Seaforth Expeditions, and I'm really looking forward to future projects with Tom McPherson

I just read Cheryl Alexander’s book Takaya Lone Wolf and it was so bittersweet knowing how his life ended so tragically ... thank you for making this amazing documentary to bring awareness to our coastal wolves ... 🙏 Cheryl

Wow very nicely done, beautiful photography. I live on Vancouver Island, they are a rare sight. Thank you for sharing this video with us. I am an amateur Photographer and I know how shy and difficult these beautiful creatures are to photograph.
Thank you sharing this! I only recently heard about these sea/coastal wolves - it is a shame to know that it’s legal to kill these animals in the name of trophy hunting, I’m seriously shocked! Hope your efforts send the message and the need to maintain delicate balance on the planet earth.
So very beautiful and educational......emotional to the core....wolf as primary totem.....this really speaks to me. I live right here on Vancouver Island.....have a exploration of the northern tip of this island on my bucket list. So worthy and needed as an IMAX experience...can't wait to see more of your documentaries.
Thanks for this Maxwell. Reminds me of my own encounter with coastal wolves years ago, in the morning fog on a beach on Flores Island. I describe it in my book "Becoming Coastal"
Beautiful documentary. Were you part of the crew that made the documentary on Netflix? the Sea Wolves. When I saw the whale carcass it reminded me of that also beautiful documentary.
I can't see how any human can murder such a magnificent animal especially if they have had a pet dog. These animals have survived millions of years through some of the most difficult situations to become the beautiful smart creatures they are and then man comes along and murders them. Not for food but for a trophy. Kind of like some serial killers do when they keep little personal items from their victims.
@@maxwelhohn I hope so. It's always hurt me inside my heart when I see people killing wolves all over the world. I have hillbilly friends that think it's cool to kill them. I just don't understand.
I respect wolves, they are truly beautiful! But you have to understand hunting plays a huge role in these animals conservation, so don't shit on hunters
I am advocating to start a special hunting season from May until September where the target is human hunters. If you hunt animals then you will be hunted yourself by other people during this hunting season. The best part is that as long as you only hunt human hunters you yourself wont be hunted during this hunting season. It only applies to people who kill other animals for sport. It seems cruel but understand its vital to the environment to not let the numbers of these hunters grow too large or it will threaten other species. And let's face it, hunters are like coyotes- of a nuisance and completely overpopulated. If we dont do something we will start finding them eating out of trashcans and shitting on our lawns
Great job , thanks for bringing awareness to this wonderful and unique pack of wolves , The Vancouver Island Sea wolves should get special classification to be able to remove them for the sports hunting category and protect them so we done lose them for our generations to come , No one need to kill another being for sport in this day and age
Thanks for creating this beautiful and insightful mini documentary. Like others on here, it would be fantastic to see a longer version of these very beautiful and unique creatures. Shame on the government for allowing these wolves to be hunted. This area should be restricted to human activity. Our world is running out of amazing areas like this.
Since this is pretty much how whales got started, I look forward to seeing future developments. I have heard that webbing has increased between the digits in their paws. So some bit of evolution is already in progress.
Amazing videography and impressed with the grading, using mixed cameras and leaving some shots relatively flat for the mood. We were up in Pruth Bay about the same time of a whale beaching and how the wolves took advantage of the bounty! Happy that these beautiful animals are surviving in such a harsh environment. Kudos.
I spent several years living close by a sea wolf pack on one of the coastal islands . Are they beautiful, intelligent animals with strong family bonds who should be granted protective status - absolutely . They are also predators who hunt in packs . To describe them as gentle, in my experience, doesnt give them the full respect they deserve . For instance, beach campers should be very careful when bringing their dogs to the beach. The alpha pair may well decide to kill them . Respect the wild, people !
loves these Wolves ! so amazing how they work with other predators [ Eagles, Ravens....] such as catching Salmon But not eating the flesh as it can kill them they catch the salmon out of the river place it on the banks and the other animals eat the meat of the Salmon and the Costal Wolves eat the skin and heads
