Homemade Mouse Poison: Instant Mashed Potato Flakes- place instant mashed potato flakes on a shallow lid and place in areas where signs of mice have been found. Once they consume it they will seek out water, causing the flakes to swell in their stomachs, killing them. This is generally considered a pet-friendly method as you’re only placing a couple of tablespoons of flakes out at a time for the mice and most household pets won’t be remotely interested in consuming mashed potato flakes.
In the USA here, we have Huge numbers of cats in animal Shelters. How about sending some big ships full over there. We'd give the poor homeless cats a great food source, and I bet a lot of people there would give a lot of them homes, out of love and gratitude for taking out the mice.

How would even professional rat catchers handle this?
also from Canada and I agree with this. Sometimes nature needs a little help. The problem is always larger than you think because for every mouse you see, there are 30 more.
The good news is that once you've caught and killed them, you can freeze them to feed to animals in the wild or in zoos for years.

It's winter. What snakes?
At least snakes don’t breed the plague. The non venomous snakes would be your best friend
We had a snake trying to get in our house last night. It was a bit odd considering the season.
We had a vacant house across from of us become overrun with mice. When people finally moved in all the mice fled to all the neighbors. We fought them for like 3 years. Lots of sleeplessness night that ruined my life, affected my job performance etc.
Did you get a cat?
@@tom4115 we kept putting mouse traps down. They dug holes in several corners of our house. Looks like they made a nest in a couch. Mouse crap everywhere.
We just used the old traditional style traps.

Thank You for sharing . Hoping for the best.
A nightmare! just watching this made me shudder, and get the urge to set everything alight.
Many years ago Zakynthos island in Greece had a serious rodent issue, so the authorities introduced a multitude of cats which were not fed, for obvious reasons and the cats eradicated the rodents in time.
Problem is when the mice are decimated cats wil kill all birds and reptiles in reach.
So you will change one plague with annother. Not a good idea.

@@theraven5935 What if we built a cat?
Terriers are a better idea. Neither mice or cats are Australian species. Don't make the cane toad mistakes again.
@@theraven5935 somehow the little critters survive. And I live in a little Provenceial town which has many cats and birds and gekkos and lizards. My house was empty of cat for about a year and the rats were back.. Then my Abyssinian arrived caught one aged 6 months and since then no rodents. The Blackbirds Robin's Doves and Tits all come into the garden bells on their collars maybe one bird a year. No sign of mice.
@@MadeleineRampling I don't think you are comparing like for like here, the cats in Australia are not going to be well fed pampered bell wearing house cats. They will be feral and hunting for food, they will kill Australian species that haven't evolved to cope with cats, especially after the mice numbers decline. They could be neutered but will still kill during their life time. Terriers are a much better option as they could kill thousands each a day then taken home as a pet.
When I was a kid, we often had a mouse or two get into the bed sheets. I never liked the thought of mice in my bed.
I bet this will start happening everywhere. I live in Virginia US. Never saw a rat my entire life except in downtown DC. Caught rats eating bird seed in my back yard this year. @@vickyhull845 traps I guess. Poison is iffy as you said.
Homemade Mouse Poison:
Instant Mashed Potato Flakes- place instant mashed potato flakes on a shallow lid and place in areas where signs of mice have been found.
My prayers are with you and your families suffering from this plague! May God be with you and bless you
In the USA here, we have Huge numbers of cats in animal Shelters. How about sending some big ships full over there. We'd give the poor homeless cats a great food source, and I bet a lot of people there would give a lot of them homes, out of love and gratitude for taking out the mice.
Thats a great idea😊
it would have to be thousands of cats turtles will eat mouse babies
Feral cats are a problem in Australia...they culled over 800,000 of them a few years back. Not sure whether there's a cause and effect for what's going on now, but you never know.

I'd be worried about hantavirus from all those mice...let's hope *that* doesn't happen. It could make the COOV look like a Sunday picnic, depending on the strain. Supposedly, there haven't been any human cases of it in Australia, but mice there do carry the virus. The strain found in the "Four Corners" region of the US (southwest US) back in '92 had a 50% fatality rate. They eventually traced it back to 1959, so it had been around, undetected, for over 30 years. The outbreak was triggered by a 10 fold increase in the deer mice population, putting them in much greater contact with humans and their dwellings.
Lets hope this doesmt happen
