  • Sky News host Alan Jones says the mouse plague across parts of New South Wales is now reaching "horrific proportions".
"I said last week it was in Western New South Wales, with these mongrel things everywhere, but this is from Toowoomba right down to Victoria, and people are very seriously at mental breaking point," Mr Jones said.
"Psychologists are now saying the mental health impact of state-wide infestation is comparable to a natural disaster like a bush fire or a flood.
"The stress from all this is awful... worse than that, farmers have lost a fortune in prized grain.
"There is, literally, economic havoc," Mr Jones said.
Mr Jones spoke to NSW Farmers Association Vice President Xavier Martin about the issue.

@@daveh2938 yes those in power will be judged, however the ordinary citizen is in for a world of hurt aswell due to these evil bastards. Apart from the natural disasters destroying crops world wide, they are shutting down meat processing plants aswell because of "cyber attacks" also China has been on a food buying spree the last few years.
The powers that be know something big is coming and have been preparing for this, leaving us plebs to suffer the wrath. Grand Solar minimum, financial system collapse. Reduced crop yields and an ever increasing tension between the superpowers. Its going to literally take an act of God to steer us out of this mess. I keep praying and preparing as that's all we can do.

    Homemade Mouse Poison:
Instant Mashed Potato Flakes- place instant mashed potato flakes on a shallow lid and place in areas where signs of mice have been found. Once they consume it they will seek out water, causing the flakes to swell in their stomachs, killing them. This is generally considered a pet-friendly method as you’re only placing a couple of tablespoons of flakes out at a time for the mice and most household pets won’t be remotely interested in consuming mashed potato flakes.

@@theraven5935 somehow the little critters survive. And I live in a little Provenceial town which has many cats and birds and gekkos and lizards. My house was empty of cat for about a year and the rats were back.. Then my Abyssinian arrived caught one aged 6 months and since then no rodents. The Blackbirds Robin's Doves and Tits all come into the garden bells on their collars maybe one bird a year. No sign of mice.

@@MadeleineRampling I don't think you are comparing like for like here, the cats in Australia are not going to be well fed pampered bell wearing house cats. They will be feral and hunting for food, they will kill Australian species that haven't evolved to cope with cats, especially after the mice numbers decline. They could be neutered but will still kill during their life time. Terriers are a much better option as they could kill thousands each a day then taken home as a pet.

In the USA here, we have Huge numbers of cats in animal Shelters. How about sending some big ships full over there. We'd give the poor homeless cats a great food source, and I bet a lot of people there would give a lot of them homes, out of love and gratitude for taking out the mice.

Indeed it is traumatic. The stench! You can taste it!
They've eaten (and used for nesting), my clothes, linen, pillows, books, house plants. The poo and wee is in every nook and cranny, I've even had one caught in my hair while in bed. They've taken my garden, corn, tomatoes, cucumbers, potatoes and now there digging up the carrots! We've put gaffer tape around the doors and windows (they eat holes in the metal fly screens). ONLY getting a cat has worked, we're allergic but anything is better than this plague.
