I have The "Chess Challenger", 100% clone as you mentioned it. Aware of the "Secret menu" and "fun level bug". Level Fun 6, already, isn't "fun" at all any more...
After years of no use I decided just a few hours ago to play fun level 4 & 5 (buggy) and then tried 6 on my chess challenger to see how buggy this level is and I had the exact same thoughts as you!! 😄 Although at first I wanted and ordered the centurion (I never got it, they never sent it to me) I am very happy with the Chess Challenger, it's so nice! I like it's studies, too!!
@@theodorkonstantinidis7456 What I did - I've put "Challenger" on backburner for awhile and upon watching IM Bartolomew video about his chess computer which catapulted him from beginner to master "Excalibur De Luxe", found online the list of Klones (same engines but different design) and gave it a try, following advices from the video. Somewhere on 30sec level, it's weaker than Chalenger's fun 6 and slightly stronger than fun 5, found the "necessary step" I think...

I have purchased this chess computer, but on level A1 .. A8 it makes so many odd mistakes here (giving away queen), that I wonder: is that normal, or did I buy a defect machine? Tried to reset. I do not see any difference with the Fun levels (E1 ... E8) and the normal levels.... anyone?
The Centurion is prone to the fun level bug. Please consult this guide: www.schach-computer.info/wiki/index.php/Bugs#/media/Datei:FLB.jpeg Does the odd behaviour also occur on levels B2 and up? What is your playing strength?
@@followyourpassion8378 it happened also on higher levels. And also in the 5 minutes game. Already on move 3 it gave away queen. In the box was a little paper about that bug. I have now done something else. I removed the batteries again. Left them out for 10 minutes, did a reset and tried again. Now the machine seems to work great. Is there a chance that what I did run into was that bug?
@@MuziekMetMeesterMarius Probably yes. Activating the fun levels once is enough to weaken the move selection algorithm. You probably have bought it in this condition. But, since you have remedied that, it will work fine. Just don't select a fun level :-) Regarding your playing strength, you might find some moves in the A levels strange, even when the machine is at full strength. You definitely need to start at B2.
@@MuziekMetMeesterMarius If you get the chance to grab a Milano Pro / Master Chess cheaply (around 70€), take it. It has a larger opening library and is stronger than the Centurion. If you have money to spare, this one: ruclips.net/video/RC2nGrYEwOQ/видео.html
The Cougar is a very interesting machine. The program is almost the same as the Centurion's, but it runs faster and therefore has a higher search depth. The Cougar also is harder to come by. If you want it to play at full strength, please make sure that you didn't accidentally trigger the fun level bug. This bug can be remedied with a reset (press ACL on the bottom side of the case for 2 seconds).
@@micheleastroboy The Milano Pro is even stronger! I'd like to have a Mephisto Atlanta / Magellan at one point. I think, these are the strongest "Morsch" machines made by Mephisto/Saitek.
