I noticed that Everyone in this video was speaking of Ryan in past tense at end of video , Knowing he did survive the crash , they must feel his career of driving is over ?
This may be his last race like Bobbie Allison I hope not but very possible by the place he was hit and condition of his role cage. Now someone said he walked out of the hospital holding his daughter’s hand if that happened I think he’s going to be OK.
I'm not, and never will be, a Denny Hamlin fan. With that said, once he and his team realized what had happened behind him, their celebration toned down quite a bit. I have to respect them for that. Edit 1 day later...WOW! This little comment sure lit people up! I never said that the 11 team didn't have a right to celebrate the victory. Obviously they had every right to celebrate. I also never said that they knew what Newmans condition was during their time of victory celebration. I also never said anything about any of the various teams, drivers or manufacturers being better than any of the others. I have my favorites and others have theirs. I also never made any political statements. I have my views and others have theirs. That's a right that we have as Americans. That's a lot of also(s) that people seem to think that I said, but didn't! What I DID say is that I respect Denny Hamlin and the entire 11 crew for toning it down and showing concern for a fellow competitor when NOBODY knew exactly what was going on.
I relive that crash every February! I've been a Dale Sr fan since my first trip to Daytona as an 11 year old kid in 1979 and I still am. I was also at there in 1998 when he FINALLY won it all, and again in 2001, when NASCAR changed forever!
Man... The way Dale was talking about Ryan you'd think he didn't survive. Thank god for the many safety innovations over the last 20 years. Ultimately progress made after Dale Sr's death undoubtedly saved Ryan Newman life.
Well, we really don't know for sure what his condition is mentally, yet. The updates we've gotten have been very carefully worded and vague. We know he's awake and has spoken to family and doctors, but we really know nothing about his physical and mental condition other than that as of now. I don't want to speculate, but his condition as far as those standards go other than what they said could be just about anything. That's why I'm still pretty worried about how he's doing, and I'm sure some others in the media and in Nascar are thinking along the same lines I am. I just hope he can recover to have a meaningful and fulfilling life.
I'm no expert but I'm pretty sure that was fuel leaking out of the ruptured fuel cell... Fire suppression systems don't leak clear fluid... It's a miracle that it wasn't ignited by the fire.
Topanga chronic ...thank goodness there were firefighters and EMS there within seconds after the track was accessible to them. There was enough fire already occurring for Newman to get severely burned in that short amount of time, and we probably shouldn’t be too surprised to hear he’s been treated for burns...
The wreck I keep going back to is Austin Dillon's in 2015. Very similar wreck and almost a similar result. Dale won that race and I can't remember if his spotter or Ives mentioned anything to him on the radio. The ones I really feel bad for in all of this is LaJoi and Blaney. Blaney was visibly torn up but there wasn't anything he could have done differently and I don't think Newman would have wanted him to do anything differently really.
I guess the feeling in 2015 was different because of how fast he got out. This was the closest experience I’ve had to the feeling that people had when Dale passed. I’ll tell you that the feeling I had was awful. I thought we lost him, I really did..
6 6 You can say that praying is doing nothing if it makes you feel better, but we both know you’d be doing it yourself if you ever thought your life was in danger. You can’t openly admit that, of course, because doing so would take courage, which you don’t have because you are lost, but it really makes no difference if you admit it or not. What matters is that you know deep down inside, just as well as I do, that what I said is true, and there’s absolutely no doubt that you do. We both know that if you only had seconds left to live, you’d most definitely apologize to God for the ignorance and blasphemy you’ve spewed, all for the sake of hopefully being seen by other people as the edgy rebel that you want them to think you are. Unfortunately for you, you won’t be able to say that you never had the opportunity to acknowledge the truth, if you end up waiting until it’s too late, but, if that happens, I seriously hope your sad attempt to look cool on the Internet will have been worth it to you. Unfortunately, it appears as though that attempt didn’t even succeed, anyway, which means there was absolutely no benefit to it, whatsoever, and that makes it even worse. In my opinion, at least, the fact that you failed so miserably, and yet got nothing out of it, at all, is the saddest, most pathetic part about it. To be honest, I’d probably feel kind of bad for you if you didn’t deserve it, but, you do, so, nah. Better luck next time. God bless.
Think they were all driving over thier heads the whole race the risk factor was more than pretty high it was off the charts, bumping all through the corners, swerving all over the track, i mean nothing wrong with being aggressive but it was just insane how they were driving, it's a miracle that there wasn't more bad wrecks or more people getting hurt i called it while the race was on, I said if they keep driving like idiots somebody's going to get hurt and what happened?.?
I knew, when Darryl was speaking, his manner and expression, his reaction, it was not good, he knew something bad and could express it, he knew he just lost his best friend. I won't ever forget
They may as well call NASCAR....PACKCAR racing and thays on reason I have lost interest, and didn't watch the race as I knew something like this WOULD happen AGAIN. NASCAR races are predictable so whats the point of watching? I don't watch a race hoping for a crash. Now, we watch a race knowing there will be one, a BIG one. NO THANK YOU. To fix this is easy.
Ryan went high then low...as in below the yellow line....risk/reward-------gamble win or lose. It was his fault ENTIRELY and he could have easily killed another doing so. I am not saying he should have died but he SURE put others at risk!!
What a great sight seeing Newman WALK out of the Hospital with his 2 girls ! THAT got the water works going ! Thanks JR for giving the perspective on the Victory lane thing, people just got to hate... :(
Totally agree, the last person that would be disrespectful would be Joe Gibbs. People who have said that, have no knowledge of the sport. His son passed not long ago, he is a man of god. Get well ROCKETMAN
i think its safe to say that all of these damned stage races and mandatory caution flags for no reason but to form everyone up for a bad wreck only ten laps later are to blame, and that its a good time to get rid of those gimmicks. no more green checkered, no more cautions for no reason, no more advertising wrecks. no more
Thanks to the efforts of people like Jeff Burton, racing has been made a lot safer, but it's time people like Brad and Joey figure out that this can be a deadly sport, especially at the super speedways. I think Kyle learned that a few years ago at Daytona, and became a better driver for it. Prayers for Ryan's speedy recovery.
I see comments on everything saying I hope Ryan makes a full recovery and gets back on track. I want him to make a full recovery too but as far as getting back on track it would be nice to see him race again and at the same time I could understand if he decided not to race again. So how about we all just be thankful he's still here for his 2 little girls and the rest of his family. Also people need to lay off of Hamlin and that team! They did nothing wrong as far as celebrating!
Patience doesn't exist when you're going 200mph, football field in a second fast, last lap of the Daytona 500. Things move too fast for all of the front drivers to calculate and make the best possible move last 5 seconds when fighting for a win.
nitrodjinn Not true. In the 90’s, drivers would race for hours straight with no cautions and never wreck. They realized that wrecking doesn’t pay. Only finishing does. These kids today can’t run 10 laps without wrecking half the field. Ridiculous. The last 6 laps, that’s when it’s time to go, but with finishing in mind. Not wrecking everything you’re in.
@@tmcorey1 And that's how these drivers raced. Last 16 laps it was a mad dash to the win. You can tell they weren't trying to wreck anybody, just rookie mistakes, but they've got to start somewhere. Logano got a big run and he bump drafted, unfortunately, Keselowski was in front and he got turned. Chastain was 10 mph faster and the 37 blocked too late. Blaney was caught loose by Denny and went low, and at that point when he was blocked it was simply too late, not Blaney's fault he got blocked. He was going to push Newman to the win but they got caught in the wrong spot and locked bumpers. And you forget how uneventful the first 2 stages were. There was one caution after 59 laps of nothing but clean racing, and he was turned by a driver who had been in the sport for around 10 years. The second wreck a rookie was turned by Aric Almirola, a 12-year veteran. They race hours without caution these days, too, just this ending was a bit more aggressive and rightfully so.
nitrodjinn In the 80’s and 90’s, there were no “the big one” where 20 cars were demolished. I recall a big one monday night, just like every other 500 for the last 20 years. They need to learn that to finish first, first you must finish. Being on a wrecker with 20 laps to go don’t get the big check or the trophy.
@@tmcorey1 You're entirely right, the "big one" is a recent event. But I think it's unreasonable to blame these on rookies or young drivers all of the time. They have to get started somehow in the cup series.
The way that Jr. is talking about Ryan makes it seem as though things are not looking too good. I hope he makes a speedy recovery and gets back on the track in the future.
in the 90's,you had mid 30's to early 40's drivers, last lap you usually had half the field withina half second at the end and great races.,heck, look at the fall dega race in 2000..still had 25-30 cars runing

Just goes to show that each of us should always care and respect our fellow human beings. Never know when things like this can happen. Love you Ryan and get well soon.
I agree. 100%. My wife and I were talking about that. They don't let the Infinity series bump and run. Obviously it creates a lot of issues. If NASCAR is dedicated to safety than this would be a good start. I would like to hear what the drivers are saying. I did hear a few drivers comment during the rain delay that basically you have to hope the driver behind is lined up perfectly. There are tracks that offer demolition derby but at a much lower speed.
TheJer1963 - Yeah, I can absolutely see that way as well. Just glad Ryan was ok and released. Absolutely incredible how far safety has come since Sr died.
Dale is right where he’s needed most. The insight, the level of respect and straight talk he brings is desperately needed ‘Oxygen’ to the sport of NASCAR. As a father, both’ HIS couldn’t be prouder.
Dale uses the term "accident". This didn't look like an accident to me... Anything to win, right? Not only are these cars on the edge, so are a lot of the drivers. And this type of driving is legal... I pray for all of these guys. Some, however, will need to do some major explaining when the time comes..
Ryan has been in the Hospital almost two days and we still don’t know what his injuries are. Nascar has set the race up that a drive is willing to run through another driver in the last lap even if it kills him. It’s all on NASCAR. Ryan Blaney run through Newman to try to win. Let’s find out what Ryan’s injuries are instead of Dale Earnhardt dying ok.
Even though we have more updates and that he’s been released and walked out under his own power something is still a little off it seems that’s just my thoughts. I feel for JR you know stuff like this has to mess with him cause of his dad
Wow, I’m not even a NASCAR fan (yet); but Dale Earnhardt Jr’s articulate comments were fantastic. And he said them in a calm, deliberate fashion, unlike many of the showboat idiot sports commentators that are so common today.
He is a down to earth, truly genuine, seriously great dude, which is why he has so many fans. People who don’t know any better have always said that he is so popular only because of who his dad is, but that’s actually not the case at all. People just assume that because they don’t know any better, and it makes sense to them, but they are wrong. You’d have to really try hard to not like him.
Ryan Newman probably saved his own life. If not for the Newman bar I’m sure that roll cage fully collapses on him and we’d be having a very different discussion right now.
Two Black Labs There’s another bar that Ryan helped engineer after his wreck in 2009 with Harvick. When he was trapped inside the car, they redesigned the roll cage and added the Newman bar, which further keeps the roll cage in tact.
i get the feel that newman's racing days are over..they are not talking about any injuries he sustained..that makes me wonder ok he survived and is talking....but does that mean he can race again?...
Sure it means he will race again. Been a fan of the sport since 1975 and saw a lot of way worse wrecks at Daytona. Rodney Orr comes to mind back in 1994 during a practice run over in turn 2. This was 2 days after Neil Bonnett was killed in a practice crash. I would be willing to bet more than 90% of the kids posting on here have never even heard the name Rodney Orr.
The biggest bummer (on top of the obvious injuries) is that he was sooo close to kicking off perhaps his final year or one of his final seasons with a Daytona 500 victory. Would have been such a huge moment for his career, for Roush, for the 6 car which hasn't won since Mark Martin. Just to end in tragedy. EDIT: Forgot David Ragan won in the 6. Still a long time ago.
I have complained about this kind of Racing in Nascar a few years now, Last year I didn't watch the whole season for this first time in 25 years + This blocking and bump drafting is so Dangerous, Looks like there all Stupid Rookies, I feel sorry for the 12 Car Team and the pressure Blaney has put on himself. Until Nascar steps in and does something another Drive is going to get hurt like this or worse Die. So I'm out and again not Watching Nascar for another year, How many Drivers have to get hurt like this, before Nascar does something? Aggressive or Dangerous Driving? good thing Ryan didn't Die, I said a prayer for you Ryan and hope you have a speedy recovery!!

Glad Ryan is ok but that's what overly aggressive driving produces
So is Ross Chastain running for a championship in the Xfinty or the cup or his he going to wait and see if he wins? Tell us now NASCAR or will you make the rules as you go like you do during a race or will you let him run for it in all three series?
I noticed that Everyone in this video was speaking of Ryan in past tense at end of video , Knowing he did survive the crash , they must feel his career of driving is over ?
This may be his last race like Bobbie Allison I hope not but very possible by the place he was hit and condition of his role cage. Now someone said he walked out of the hospital holding his daughter’s hand if that happened I think he’s going to be OK.
Time for NASCAR to do away with "overtime" or at least do away with it on restrictor plate tracks
After the Daytona 500 crash Ryan Newman is doing just fine he is up and walking now
I sow a design in Las Vegas race track and it got a killer mistake on one of its turns
Watch the video of Jeff Gordon hitting that wall. It was before they put the safer barrier there.
Ryam we all wish you the best.
That wasn't fucking racing man.....that was attempted murder
Agreed!
It should be pretty obvious that Denny wouldn't be celebrating if he instantly knew how bad it was. He's not an animal.
He didn’t realize how bad it was, so people shouldn’t get mad at him for not knowing how bad it was.
I'm not a hamlin fan either, hes a great racer and yeah this shows hes a good person too.
I'm just not sure how you can have a front-row seat to a crash like that, and not realize that it was deadly serious...

Yeah it did
Michael is still affected by it.
I relive that crash every February! I've been a Dale Sr fan since my first trip to Daytona as an 11 year old kid in 1979 and I still am. I was also at there in 1998 when he FINALLY won it all, and again in 2001, when NASCAR changed forever!
I don't know Anyone that wasn't crying for hours when Dale Sr. was killed. Even more than Kobe.
It does hit you right there in the feels button
Man... The way Dale was talking about Ryan you'd think he didn't survive. Thank god for the many safety innovations over the last 20 years. Ultimately progress made after Dale Sr's death undoubtedly saved Ryan Newman life.
Spooky, yet true...
It's also somewhat similar to his dad's and Austin Dillons crash that one year that jr won the July daytona race so it was close to his heart in a way
Well, we really don't know for sure what his condition is mentally, yet.
It makes you think that Dale knows more info than he's letting on and that the injuries are severe enough that Newman is done racing.
@@doubleaalanderson4571 i agree, jr is talking in past tense as ryan being a race car driver , like he don,t think ryan will race again
Man, it was such an interesting race to watch up till Ryans crash. Thinking about and praying for you buddy.
It was honestly such a great race to watch up until the last 250 feet...
So glad that fuel didn't light off
Praise the onboard fire suppression system for that. I seen the water shooting out of it. Helped keep it down. Did what it was supposed to do.
On board fire suppression is not water.
It seems strange. I'm no expert, but if that was fuel right by that fire... One thinks of God.

ForeverRanger 91 Austin got out of the car really fast. That’s the difference
There is video, his spotter did talk to him.
@@roboompa2465 You hear Dale go " Oh my God!" And then his Spotter " Huge wreck stop on the back straight"
I guess the feeling in 2015 was different because of how fast he got out. This was the closest experience I’ve had to the feeling that people had when Dale passed. I’ll tell you that the feeling I had was awful. I thought we lost him, I really did..

Ryan is in my Prayers 1st , that said I have just Gained as much respect for Dale Jr. as one can have for a human .

@6 6 You got a better idea?
@6 6 Yeah, I see your little not-so-subtle "666". No one cares what you think, idiot.
God bless.

They may as well call NASCAR....PACKCAR racing and thays on reason I have lost interest, and didn't watch the race as I knew something like this WOULD happen AGAIN. NASCRAP isn't racing anymore. It's an expensive demolition derby joke.
i think its safe to say that all of these damned stage races and mandatory caution flags for no reason but to form everyone up for a bad wreck only ten laps later are to blame, and that its a good time to get rid of those gimmicks. no more green checkered, no more cautions for no reason, no more advertising wrecks. no more
Thank you Dale Jr for being willing to talk about DE crash. It had that vibe to it.
A lot of inexperienced young drivers in Nascar now. That's a big problem on these tracks. They don't have the maturity and patience the older guys do.

Get rid of the bump and run, that is what causes most of the wrecks. Build the sport around passing without moving someone out of the way.
I agree.
Anyone else catch the way Jr was talking in past-tense? That didn’t make me feel comfortable. 🙏

utjason8 It’s called life .
Dale jr. what a class act!
First thing I thought of was Dale Earnhart. He hit the wall the same, and the crash was a lot less severe, and passed. This man got lucky.
In car sounded brutal
Knowing now that Ryan walked out of the Hospital, things are great. But JR's insight into this is good to hear.
well said jr. all the best to ryan and his family
Ryan Newman probably saved his own life. If not for the Newman bar I’m sure that roll cage fully collapses on him and we’d be having a very different discussion right now.
iTwerkley ...it’s called the Earnhardt bar, and became standard roll cage reinforcement after Dale wrecked at Talladega in 1996.
Two Black Labs There’s another bar that Ryan helped engineer after his wreck in 2009 with Harvick. When he was trapped inside the car, they redesigned the roll cage and added the Newman bar, which further keeps the roll cage in tact.
@@twoblacklabs904 the hans device became mandatory after dale srs death
@@chochoobaca55 Did not know that.
i get the feel that newman's racing days are over..they are not talking about any injuries he sustained..that makes me wonder ok he survived and is talking....but does that mean he can race again?...
