I really appreciate seeing 2 guys from the “opposing” tours working together like this! Really cool perspectives they bring from each tour.
Matt. I honestly had no idea you had your own podcast. You never mention it on Scott's channel. I'm glad this popped up on my feed.
14:30 for Cayuga drama
TY King!
When I became a boat official 3 years ago we went through 2.5 days of training after 2 interviews. Professionalism and knowing the rules was of upmost importance… I believe things would have been different if they had veteran officials there in all the boats last week. Things are just different after you’ve gotten a couple of events under your belt.
I was in the boat with Bryan at D’arbonne last year, good luck the rest of the year man!🤙
Great show guys! Thanks for doing this.
Great show guys. Enjoyed the professional discussion.
I love dudley but the first one i saw before shuffield was a drone shot where dudley was messing with one over the gunnel and came up with no hook in not saying he did it but thats what i immediately thought live then i saw shuffield unhook it before it was in the boat and knew there was something going on
Great format. I watched the tournament last week on Cayuga. Really enjoyed the discussion and topics!
80 scales..80 interpretations...of the rules...you can train all you want and something can still come up you haven’t covered...yall are right the anglers need to police themselves..sometimes the "spirit " of the rule needs to be taken into account...and each individual angler makes that decision themselves
Congrats Thrift on Redcrest!
Great show!
Thanks guys!
Good discussion guys.
I'm a fan of the; catch, weigh, and release format because it kills less mature fish, but that format does pose problems when events are held during spawning season. Certainly MLF screwed the pooch when they worded this rule, and according to both Matt Becker (on BTL) and James Watson (on Luke Dunkin) more than one discussion was had at tournament meetings regarding catching the same fish the same day, and having it count as long as the second time (or third and forth time for that matter) you couldn't see the fish on a bed. KVD talked about Cayuga on Zaldain's podcast and he stated everyone understands the intent of why that rule exists and he said he lost respect for some of his fellow anglers after the Cayuga event. Watson seemed to have a similar opinion to Van Dam. Takahiro Omori's arguing with his boat official about whether or not he could catch the same fish again reveals all the boat officials weren't on the same page regarding the interpretation of the rule. It's my understanding MLF now uses unpaid boat officials to save money, and you get what you pay for, but regardless this rule was not written well because it left questions about what anglers could and could not do. As long as MLF holds tournaments while fish are spawning I don't think it's possible to stop all catching of the same fish on the same day. If you caught a fish on a bed near some kind of landmark that you could line up with, left for a few hours, came back through the same area and stayed 50 feet away from your line up it would be very hard for the boat official to conclude that was the same fish. The only true solution is to avoid the spawn with this format.
New sub, great show!
MLF is in uncharted territory with the smallie retread debacle but they need to act on these reprimands daily. Can’t have these guys making it to the championship round.
I saw a few times where the official didn’t check the fish, fish landing penalties were missed, and I wondered if maybe there was some questionable catches, where the fish might have been snagged, and some magician moved it to the mouth.
What about if they catch a bass and it’s hooked outside of the mouth….. then they turn it loose, are they allowed to fish/catch it again that day?
Great show as always guys!! Thrift have any interest of ever going to B.A.S.S!?!??! We need him on the B.A.S.S side!!!
We 😂 like you're fishing em
So if I close my eyes before it bites does it count as a sight bass? Or if I turn my head the other way as I count? Man that rule is kinda wild in my opinion
Hmmmm didn't know that Matt had another podcast
They just need to let the fish spawn and have the tournament ‘s before or after the major spawning times
Put pool noodles in livewell. Cut them to length where they cover top of water
Lol, they been asked to take the video down, it doesn't play anymore. Someone got in trouble ? No chat replay either :)
Do away w catch weigh and release
Actually, it's 49 states. Everywhere but Hawaii. And he not only fished without a liscense in SD, he fished without a liscense in a tournament in Georgia and got a ticket for that too. Now he says he's out of tournament fishing altogether. Cerebral Tackle has all the info on his channel.
Greetings from the BIG SKY.
I think Matt just got caught lookin at that little fish making a great escape under his nose.
I think i heard on Mercer's podcast that Stracner didnt even get ticketed until he was out to eat later the night after his practice. Got ticketed based on "hear, say". 🙄
Scott Martin welture ccx
Just spent 400 on cullshads haha
Once upon a time ago, people used to cheat the casino by taping a string to a quarter and reusing it to win money from their slot machines. Now they're doing it with fishing line and the same fish! LOL Sheesh!!!
You guys have a great podcast but WAY TOO MANY ADS.
Unfortunately out of our control 😕
Move the tournaments away from the heart of the spawn. Obviously they don’t all spawn at once but there’s a few weeks in any region where we all know most of them spawn. Would greatly reduce possible rules violations and give the fish some peace to do their deal.
Tok should know the rules shouldn’t be depending on his official
New York DNR is going to change the law and I'm surprised its not a law that you can target fish in a closed season
I may be 73, but having shot at pheasants, huns, grouse and ducks from age 15 I keep myself as legal as I can, to be held responsible for any one else is not on me.
It's stupid that these guys can see a boulder or bass on livescope and catch a big fish "blind casting", release it, and then go sightfish and catch and submit that same fish again. Just take a note from kayak tournaments and toss the fish really quick on a bump board and take a picture then change the rule to no angler may submit the same bass in the same day, or even in the same round (qualifying, knockout, or championship).
Some of these pros just have no integrity they just want that check
Shuffield was doing some super shady sh**. Saw it live
Not disagreeing, just wondering what you saw him doing that was shady?
@@timmytubow7651 leaning over the boat with the fish out of sight for a good 5+ seconds before lifting the fish up with the hook already removed was one instance
I saw the same thing!
Agreed , he was like oh this keeps happening, like what happens sheffeild cuz no one could see and the ref was acting like he didn't have a job to do,
I'm not saying no one else was doing shady stuff but his was obvious,
@@HughesBassmanoh wow. I didn't watch much because I think those smallie spawn tournaments are the worst. Man I respected Spencer too
I think just waiting until later on in the year and after the spawn, is when MLF should have a tourney fishing for brown dummies 🤷🏼♂️
Worst tournament ever. Catching the same spawner multiple times. These are not average Joe's. They are top tier anglers. That concetration of great angles can really hurt the population.
One interesting update on Writers Guild Strike was provided today, by a writer and actor. In relation to television and television content. How that whole market and industry is going.
Van der Beek, an actor who was famous years ago. For a teenage show that was staged in one of the Carolina's. He was interviewed at Breaking Points news and politics show. And he explained that what Hollywood and TV show writers (including common 'talk shows' and other prime time content), were being requested to do. Was to take material on a subject, which had been created. Literally by Chat GPT. And then, when writers under their current work rules. Are asked to re-write the work or script of another writer. They only get paid a lesser amount, than what writers are paid. For creation of 'original' content, characters, stories and so on. That's what was actually happening.
And this applies to all forms of television and broadcast content really (this is the part where even sports and fishing fits into this jigsaw, and how it is changing). The television content producers were getting guys good with computers. To produce an original script or whatever. For the television show using Chat GPT. And then hiring 'the writers', as in the human beings. To come along and do re-writes and updates, to the AI produced material. Thereby, under-cutting the writers and what they earned. Because the producers were claiming that. They had provided the writers with the 'original' material, and all they wanted. Was a tidy-up, or update, to that original 'property' (and if you have ever listened to producers who 'buy and sell' movies and television shows, that is the actual language they use). If one works in 'real estate' like I did before. And one listens to entertainment industry law and negotiation over value of a 'property'. It's like listening to people talk about real estate.
To give one example, there was one famous 1990's film. In which it was a story about an American High School. The producer in Hollywood purchase 'the property' from an amateur script writer. Who happened to be a school teacher. The school teacher was delighted to 'sell' this property, the script they had created. And the Hollywood company then turned around. They retained 'the title' of the movie, which is all that they wanted. The paid the teacher, the original writer enough to keep them happy. Held on to his 'title' only, and re-wrote every single character and plot-line within the original 'property'. So it resembled nothing like the original, except in it's title. And the movie was then made, and it became a commercial success. What's happened nowadays it seems with Chat GPT, is they have replaced the school teacher, with the Chat GPT. And that is what's going on. And the writers are having to 'heavily' re-write and re-sculpt everything in the property. But doing so, at far less compensation than otherwise. It's been a long running problem in TV and movies, and I think that Chat GPT, has just made it more extreme. So you're getting co-mingling together or human labour now, with AI labout. And that is the scary thing, that Van Der Beek explained.
Is fishing and technology at this point yet? Where the cloud application, or the datacenter can construct a fishing strategy or pattern. To go on a lake and fish with? Well that is too 'Star Trek' even for my tastes. Although, there is 'application development' going on, designed and intended to tackle this. From various points of view. Matt Pangrac looked at one application, which studies 'water clarity' and uses satellite imagery to do so (one can study water clarity from a point of view of history and from satellites it seems, on large water areas). The point is not so much 'electronics' and fishing in general. The point is, the cash end of 'professional' fishing, has all to do with television and distribution deals. And that is the part where it could become nasty. As television studios and companies become more powerful. And able to get content produced for less and less. It's turning out to be good for 'live sports' coverage now. The networks and television like sport at the moment. Because the economics are better than scripted shows and 'original' dramas etc. However, what does the long term future look like? That is the real question.

MLF started out as a joke, now it's still a joke! Nothing has changed. Just give them a 10 minute penalty next tournament 😂
Funny you think that when you'll fish neither thar or BASS. Loser 😂
Matt I had to unsubscribe to Lunker Text no really (Great) Deals by the time you pay shipping. If things improve Maybe I will try again later
