This song, Reflections of My Life was adopted by the Men and Women who served in Viet-Nam during the 60's and 70's. It's the storey of a young American soldier who was shot and knows he's dying in some rice paddy or laying on the jungle floor waiting for death. Please listen to the words, "the sunlight to moonlight. He knows he fadeing into death and fast. Reflections of My Life. His life is passing before his eyes. Take me back to my old home. He wants his body returned to his home. PLEASE, just listen, this song should make any person cry. It does me, I served there when I was young. I'm 72 come this Nov. 17. 2022. Peace........ Thank you for your time to read.
Pandemic wow , great song with great meaning , Vietnam a senseless war, how about senseless war in Ukraine . A proxy war we are fighting for no reason, ask yourself why, simple joe Biden and the far left radicals . Want to choke our energy off.,create food shortages,,no you don’t believe ,government officials in Ukraine ,taking the money we are sending and buying homes in Switzerland, ok u don’t believe it,well believe it. The war in Ukraine was none of our business, yes give humanitarian help, shelter food, I’m all for that, love the people in Ukraine, not the government, or this thief zelenskyy a liar, now he’s demanding millions from us, he couldn’t care less if Putin blasts us with nukes, we pay 90 % of cost of war , the rest of nato 10% why please somebody explain that, we are dying here everyday, wake up it’s a cold hard reality nobody wants to admit, I don’t see stand with Ukraine bumper stickers anymore; why?
Kristin, My name is Jim Dodson, I'm 70. This song was the theme song of about One and a half million of my Brothers and Sisters in Vietnam. Dean Ford re-recorded this just before he died. It seems to show that most of us made it and life turned out okay. Thank You for playing The Song of my Life! Sgt. Jim Dodson U.S. Army Retired
Agree both versions are absolute magic the remake brings out even more emotion... watch here ruclips.net/video/Dn9bAvWS4RU/видео.html..May god look after you very well Dean (Mcaleese) Ford
The greatest bass riff John Entwhistle never played. The song is heartbreakingly beautiful but also heartbreakingly sad at the same time. I remember hearing it for the first time in 1969 when I was only five. It still gives me chills every time I hear it. You have a very soothing sort of ethereal voice very pleasant in every way. Stay kind and beautiful!!
In 68 I was 18 and an engineering apprentice, there were so many great songs about and😮 I considered this to be one of many. Forward to now I’m 73 and I can’t believe how emotional this makes me feel. The feelings and emotions from my life come flooding back. Wish I could go back and experience it again.
The Marmalade came from Scotland if you notice on the drums there is a picture of a "Golliwog" which was a Black doll and featured on jars of Robertson Marmalade. This wouldn't be allowed nowadays I'm sure there was no malice on their part.
Thank you so much for posting the song this was one of the most heaviest songs ever produced in the 60s it's mesmerizing for us that lived in the 60s and 70s the greatest time to ever be alive you seem to be a lonely old soul you had to be there to experience it but the music was the message Reflections of My Life mainly talk about the turbulent sixties protesting the Vietnam War the world is a sad place a terrible place but I don't want to die you're in hell and you're in the nam but something inside you says you got to survive....I don't want to die the 60s snd 70s was the greatest generation of music ever and I was glad to be part of it I saw the greatest groups... we all have a story to tell .. refreshing to see the younger generation key into the music there is a,message you seem to be affected by it... thank you for being a nurse and doing what you do...... I can remember so long hours being hospitalized and suffering and if it wasn't for the special nurses pulling me through I don't think I would have made it it seems to me you were born a generation too late it's sad to see what's happening in America today for me it makes me sick to the bottom of my stomach but keep the faith God bless there's a whole world of 60s and 70 musics out there tune into the birds and Rodger McGuinn..... sincerely the bear man
I was 10 years old when this came out. Loved it then but didn't truly grasp it. Now, almost 54 years later, hearing it blows me away like never before. These guys were so talented!
Just stopped by cause I love this song hun, I was in 8th grade when this came out. I have this, 'He's Not Heavy, He's My Brother' and quite a bit more to play at my wake on a rotation...whenever, because of the music of my youth. You can fancy up the music but good music and talent are timeless. I think I will check out your library young lady and stop back by. Peace be yours...Yo Soy.
I love this song and have often battled with it’s obvious meaning and that dark sinister meaning around which it skirts. I will play it when asked but that has only happened twice in my over 30 year career as a pianist on the road, with the last twelve years being with Royal Caribbean in the Schooner Bar aboard so many ships. Incidentally, I was on Freedom of the Seas in 2020. I joined the ship on March 5th out of Puerto Rico and the company got all the musicians off ship in Curaçao on the 11th after the U.S. declared a quarantine. I managed to get a flight into Miami and then back to my home port of Pensacola and didn’t work shipwise until 2022. Interesting times and tragic for many. I went home to Monroeville Alabama and worked at clubs throughout the panhandle and southern Alabama to make ends meet until the company was ready to set sail again. This song is a classic and unfortunately not many more came from Marmalade. This is not the original video however, and I have seen somebody has taken cuts from others and spliced them together which forced the unknown splicer to slightly speed up the track. The original track is slightly slower giving it a somewhat lower pitch and heavier feel.I like that one the best. Interesting guitar solo, especially love how the guitarist holds one note over the changes in the 4th bar!! Soulful singer, killer harmonies!! Great Stuff!!
Hi Kristen, fromEngland. Hope you are well & happy. When Marmalade released this I was a teenager. This group at this time were overpowered by otherBritish pop groups, The Animals, The Rolling Stones and the Beatles to name a few. For a sad song to be around for fifty something years is a tribute to talent. Dean Ford did not have a good fifty years but we can still celebrate his achievements along with the group members. This format you have of emotionally giving yourself and critically acclaiming the artist at the same time, is wonderful. Have I missed other heartfelt appraisals? I hope not. You connected with thousands of souls that day. Years later I got caught up with your feelings. Well done. Thank you. Don’t leave me now Kristen. Geoff.😘
This song came out in 1970. l remember buying this record when it was new and l was 14 years old in 1970 .lol. Reached #10 in the USA..went to #2 here in Canada. A great memory of a simpler time. 🎼🎶🎵🇨🇦🇨🇦
Very close...It was released in November of 1969, I was 16 at the time. It became a big record in the springtime of 1970. I didn't mean to split hairs here, but, I lived it and LOVED IT !!!!!!
This song is so devastatingly beautiful. I have Cystic Fibrosis and have have a heart/lungs transplant. I've lost so many friends over both phases of my live and this song utterly kills me.
I played this song for a request on Cousin Brucie 77 WABC every Saturday night from 6 PM to 10 PM, he only plays music from 50s 60s little 70s when music was music and bin around forever DJing
This was one of the last songs my dad and I listened to before he died on New Year's Eve 2018. It, along with Incense and Peppermints by Strawberry Alarm Clock were his favorite songs. It's a bittersweet memory but one I'll cherish always.
I was 20 yrs old and living in Lahaina, Maui when this song was popular. I loved it. What a beautiful song. I hadn’t heard it since then But hearing it again brings back such wonderful memories. Dean Ford, the lead singer, recently (maybe past year) passed away. He had a long musical career.
hi Kristin, I remember this song when it came out in 1969, my older brother was in Vietnam , and it was truly sad for a lot of Vietnam veterans who relate to this song , I remember watching the 10 o clock every night looking for the name of my brother on the tv, it was on channel 5 with bill jorgansen , any person who had a person in Vietnam would know of this , but we were lucky , he made it home , my heart is with those who didn't ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,this song hits home ,many a waliking on edge feeling , thanks for posting , thank a veteran
One of my favourite songs of all time. May have been concerning Vietnam but so poignant today as we fight for our freedoms, rights and democracy, not to mention the tyrants out there who have an agenda against us all..stay strong people!
A British DJ interviewed Dean Ford back in 2013. Dean said this song was not written about Vietnam, but a lot of Vietnam Vets could relate to the song and so they liked it. Which I could understand, but this is a very open-ended song so it can be related to in different ways.
Just found your channel and subscribed. You are gorgeous, and have a soothing voice, and I really enjoy the songs you're reacting to. When we grew up in the late 60's and through the 70's we had the best music ever to listen to. It seemed like every single day from 1967 to about 1976 was another day with a new rock and rock classic being released!
You seemed to focus on the negative and not hear the most important lyrics at the end of that line. "The world is a bad place, a bad place, a terrible place to live, but I don't wanna die." That's actually quite positive. He's singing from the point of view of a soldier in Vietnam. Incredible song!
I sincerely give thanks with all my heart to the artists and musicians who left such a vast and impressive body of work in the 1960s. Most are masterpieces, like this sad and wonderful song. May God have them in a place full of light. 🙏🏻 ✨🌟🌹🕊️ 🇧🇷
In the 60s and 70s, we were spoiled by a plethora of world-class songwriting and performing. Notice the variety! It didn't all sound the same! Reflections is one of the six songs I would have to have on a deserted island. All good wishes.
Hi Kristin from across the pond UK. I grew up in the sixties and all these years later I cannot believe I’m listening to 60s music. What a great song, very emotive and deep but very poignant particularly in these worrying times. I love your reactions to the old music and bands of my youth. Take care and above all stay safe. p.s. there are way more good people than bad. 😊
I was in college in the mid/late 60's and it was a great time for all kinds of new though provoking and inspiring music which reflected the many changes that were occuring in society..
Now, in 2022, I’m 71, and still love this song and group! I play this a lot! There is a Bandstand recording of them, earlier, and Junior, the lead singer is wearing a hat, looks so different. God Bless and Happy Thanksgiving weekend!Amen!🙏🧡✌️
Was 16yr old living in London and working in London Bridge when this song came out - moved me then a lot and now 71yrs young listening to this now brings back the memories of a carefree time, Dean Ford sang it again just before he died and he did a blinding job of it again. Totall class band and singer with proper music that lasts forever. Lucky to have been alive when all this fantastic music was born.
Hello Kristin, I'm in New Zealand. Am 63 years old . Love the fact you get inspired by this song, as do I. I love your enthusiasm and I feel your love ❤️. Hey one thing you said, Jerry? Please, who is Jerry? Sounds like a good bloke. Love u, keep doing what you do. It's beautiful. And we need all the beautiful people in the world to " come together" right now. Love you Kristin.
Hello my New Zealand friend :) Welcome to my humble/chaotic channel... Jerry was a Vietnam Veteran and my mentor when i was growing up... he died in 2017 around the time I joined youtube. Im a nurse inspired bc of his work as a Medic/Physician assistant in Central California. Jerry always told me to do or say the RIGHT thing no matter how hard it is... or how alone you might be.
The music of the 60's and 70's is the boom..there was so many style.. Folk, pop, rock, psychedelic..even bluegrass and country had big infuances like with Nitty Gritty Dirt Band... and the Byrds and John Denver. That music will for ever more live... not because of baby boomers but how great the music was and how people these days will cover them and make them their own. There is so much that was never even played on main streem radio. Like Chicago radio didn't know how to classify them... one of the greatest band of all time✌
Hi Kristin .. I'm back ... i've had computer probs but all good now. The 60's and 70s had so many beautiful innovations and new sounds and i was lucky to have been in that era. Just to live through all that was wonderful and to see so many great artists in their prime ... imagine what a thrill that was. IF you ever get the chance please play some Carpenters ... you will be pleasantly surprised .. I'm an out of work entertainer now as all the pubs , clubs and entertainment venues are close and until then i cannot contribute any numeration for a request but when i can i shall. Much love to you and stay safe please ... We love you and appreciate you xxx
I was born in 61 and I think my first memory of adult pop music was by Three Dog Night. Yes so many great sounds from that period.. the Carpenters, James Taylor, Mamas and Papas... 5th Dimension a group I discovered a few years ago The Sunshine Company>their on youtube check them out also. Alao those female vocalist Judy Collins, Joni Mitchell, Carole King, Laura Nero etc. Male vocalist John Denver, Joe Crocker, Jim Croce, JT.. and more.. Watch the movie Sunset Strip 200? great music.
👊❤️🗣I always take suggestions for free!! 🥰 so give me a good “Carpenter song” and I will add it to my list! The request and donations are for people who can donate and want their song played “RIGHT NOW”... and give me a tip for playing it 😂
👊❤️😳☺️🗣And I love and appreciate all the good vibes & well wishes! I absolutely want the same for you dear one! You and your well being is a priority... hopefully when we get back to our day jobs we can all “share the wealth” 🙏💕
Thank you so much. I've had the feeling in my heart that you are a special lady. Bless you my friend, whenever you get the chance please play " We've Only Just Begun " It is so beautiful and was played in many weddings throughout the years ... You will hear her beautiful and magical voice . They are a brother and sister duo . It's the video clip where it starts with their picture together on an album cover ...Again i thank you from my heart.
I am 66 now and a full grown man and I still get teary-eyed this is one of my all time favorites and I'm an old rocker. Don't know why they cut off comments on their sites bad finger was good but had nothing on these guys
People over the pond think they are a one hit wonder, but they aren't. Thia actually wasn't their biggest hit and they had more. They actually had a No1 in the UK with a cover of the Beatles song Obla de Obla da (life goes on).
Glad you love this song as much as me. I was lucky to find this on youtube. It is my favorite song by far. And Robert Jones posted to listen to the remake Dean did before he passed. Now there is a tear jerker. RIP Dean.
This reminds me of vietnam. I was not there, but this was a big song back in the day when we were so distraught that the war went on and on. It felt like it was never going to end.
Love Marmalade. Hi ya Hunny Bunny. Ok I've got a couple of requests for you. The first one is Killin Floor by the Electric Flag. Their drummer ( Buddy Miles was one of my best friends). They were some of the best musicians that I ever knew. The lead singer was Nick Gravenites, who at the age of 90 is still performing. The second one is Nick Gravenites and John Cippolina performing Pride of Man live. There is a good video of this performance on RUclips. Thank you sweetie, love ya much. 😎🐶🥁🎶
@@KristinKali always and forever my sweet. Me and the Moj aren't going anywhere. He's laying next to me asleep right now. He is the most precious baby. The absolute sweetest boy ever. And every time I mention your name, his curly tail starts wagging. When I watch one of your videos, he puts his paws on my shoulders and his head next to my head and watches the entire video. I think that he either loves you very much, or he is looking for the meowers. Either way it is just about the cutest thing that I have ever seen. Love ya. I'll have some more requests in the coming days. Love ya much. 😎🐶🥁🎶
Living in the 60’s was like Heaven compared to our world today....I tried to explain it to my kids but they balked at that opinion...they finally realized that I was right..And now they agree that the music was so much better..
1969 Kristin I could be wrong but I think this song might of been sung, from a reference point of a soldier fighting the war in Vietnam. "The world is a bad place," "All my sorrows", "But I don't want to die". Take the year (1969) and these words makes me think Vietnam, but I could be wrong. Really love the song and your reaction, thank you Kristin for putting on.
@@KristinKali this is such a beautiful song it does take me back to the sixties. And that smile of yours will light up the darkest of hearts. Including mine.

A fantastic song - the guitar solo by Junior Campbell is simply sublime - I never get tired of listening to this.
And great harmony vocals as well!
@sludge8506 it is a fabulous song and performance - everything about it is so good
Yes, this is one of the greatest all time songs. The Marmalade knew it. Too many bad people living around the world.
Very popular when I was in the army overseas in 1970. I was 19. It was one of our favorite songs then and still one of my favorite songs. I love it.
You are so right about the song and , Thank you for your service's sir .
Thanks my friend...Be Well
I loved this song from when I first heard it in 1969. Its haunting, they were such a talented band.

One of my all time favorite songs. I just found you, I'll keep watching.
Such an amazing song. Tears, memories. Thank you.
Scottish Band from Glasgow - a song that was listened to a lot by soldiers during Vietnam as was He Ain't Heavy He's My Brother
👊❤️🗣Thankyou Cambridge and hello to you! The 60’s era of music will never die!
And let the good ALWAYS conquer the bad! 👍
I was in college in the mid/late 60's and it was a great time for all kinds of new though provoking and inspiring music which reflected the many changes that were occuring in society..
Superb song, also just as good when his sung it in his later life! the lyics mean so much and true!
Mysterious and wonderful song. I was 10 when this song was popular. I still enjoy listening.
If you could take this in the context of the Vietnam war that was going on at that time it could mean more
Now, in 2022, I’m 71, and still love this song and group! I play this a lot! There is a Bandstand recording of them, earlier, and Junior, the lead singer is wearing a hat, looks so different. God Bless and Happy Thanksgiving weekend!Amen!🙏🧡✌️
Same to you Patti 🙏💕 God Bless us all
Was 16yr old living in London and working in London Bridge when this song came out - moved me then a lot and now 71yrs young listening to this now brings back the memories of a carefree time, Dean Ford sang it again just before he died and he did a blinding job of it again. Totall class band and singer with proper music that lasts forever. Lucky to have been alive when all this fantastic music was born.
Classic song 🎵🎶..eternal wonderment for body and mind🙏🎵🎶👍
Shades of my high school days. Thanks Kristin!
👊❤️🗣Absolutely Harry! I gain so much from music & great ppl like you! It’s a win-win 🥰🙏
Definitely one of my all time favourite Songs..
So so underrated ❤️🇬🇧
The interplay between the lead vocals and the harmony vocals is unusual and amazing.
In the 60s we loved beautiful music with deep soulful vocals by humans for humans. No computers need apply.
You can say that again . This song touches your soul . Its amazing
I love this song, I waited to see your first response and that said it all. The splendor! It brings tears to my eyes, thank you for the post
Being a 60's kid,

Like Chicago radio didn't know how to classify them... one of the greatest band of all time✌
👊❤️🗣Well Said!!! Well Said!!
I was a little girl in the 60s and u r right about the songs and then the 70 behind to me were AMAZING songs from the ♥️
Ime so glad you like this it moves me to tears x
tell me about it
Hi Kristin ..
Oh... Leo Sayer, Gilbert O'Sullivan Burt Bacharach
I love your reactions. I knew you would love this song.
I am 66 now and a full grown man and I still get teary-eyed this is one of my all time favorites and I'm an old rocker. Don't know why they cut off comments on their sites bad finger was good but had nothing on these guys
Reflection of my life an amazing song ...soldiers in nam kinda adopted this song ...bless the vets
Hello Again Kristin Kali. Thanks For Uploading More Videos Today!😊
Absolutely! you are welcome!! I got more so i will be quiet for a while :)
@@KristinKali 😊
another great brit band, marmalade, criminally underrated
People over the pond think they are a one hit wonder, but they aren't. Thia actually wasn't their biggest hit and they had more. They actually had a No1 in the UK with a cover of the Beatles song Obla de Obla da (life goes on).
Glad you love this song as much as me. I was lucky to find this on youtube. It is my favorite song by far. And Robert Jones posted to listen to the remake Dean did before he passed. Now there is a tear jerker. RIP Dean.
You always assume the songs are American. Just to let you know they were from Scotland and were big in the 70s & 80s.
Wonderful
This is 'the ' song in my life, been with me in some form or another since '69 and this song will see me off one day...
Just a great song with great vocals and musicianship. Especially the bass.
Very emotional.
Love ya right back & Mojo!! thankyou for hanging in there with me!!
Hi from Lanark in Scotland.Lovely reaction.
I was 16 when I first heard this song ❤️❤️❤️
First time subscriber new to your group

💙🙏🗣I appreciate you Susan, thank-you for commenting 🙂
@@KristinKali you seem like such a beautiful person. It's easy to watch you so thank you
This was one of Paul Mcartneys favourite songs.
Living in the 60’s was like Heaven compared to our world today....I tried to explain it to my kids but they balked at that opinion...they finally realized that I was right..And now they agree that the music was so much better..
Glad they realized sense... even the 90’s were way better than today.. smh.. I cry thinking how my children will grow up today in this world 🌎 I pray
You could be right 🙏
It’s someone contemplating suicide.
Oh and the Drummer of this wonderful group Alan Whitehead is a friend.
👊❤️😳🗣Whoa!! Now that’s some major respect to you! 🤘😁
Beautiful song and you can forgive Marmalade for the Roninson's Golly on the bass drum.
Kali you are so gorgeous and vivacious. You have beautiful eyes. BTW great song and great reaction. Robert
👊❤️🥰🗣Robert! You made my evening! Thankyou for being too kind 🙏💕
@@KristinKali that's not difficult to be kind when it comes to Someone Like You
@@KristinKali this is such a beautiful song it does take me back to the sixties. And that smile of yours will light up the darkest of hearts. Including mine.
