Thank you for your service, Sir! I have two military boys myself. The oldest is now out; the younger will be out in July. I appreciate you and all the other Vietnam soldiers, sung and unsung! God bless!
I was only 14-15 when this song came out. My daddy had just died and it was so hard for me to listen to. It has not gotten any easier over the years. Sad but beautiful song.
The lead singer of this song was dying.. he was in his 70's and re-recorded this song shortly before he passed....absolutely incredible....he also wrote the song.
The lead singer Dean Ford has always , in my mind, been such a superb singer. To see how versatile Marmalade were, please try Loving Things, Baby Make It Soon , Hey Joe , etc by this band. (and of course, Ob La Di Ob La Da.)
This was one of the last songs I listened to with my dad before he died. This and Strawberry Alarm Clock's "Incense and Peppermints" were right at the top of his list of favorite songs.
I loved those songs growing up. I know that they have a special place in your heart! I have songs that I have thinking about my mom. So I know what you mean!
This is a powerful, beautiful song. Just called "Marmalade" at the time, i turned 13 in 69 and this was a favorite song of mine. I will be 67 soon and i still get tears in my eyes when i hear it. We all in the end have reflections of our lives but these guys were so young. Brilliant songwriting from the musical parts to the lyrics. The performance by the band is exceptionally great.
I'm really glad you liked this song guys. I grew up on 60's music and this brings back some fond memories. Take my word for it, there are lots of Gems like this to discover. Peace & Love :)
Bro!!! Marmalade ! These guys rock! This is one hit song. But they were true sychadelic rockers! So talented. So underated. Thank you for reacting! Btw, lead singer "Ford" did an awesome touching remake of this song before he died. It deserves a listen. You guys rock! 🤘🔥🤘🔥🤘🔥
A band from my hometown Glasgow in Scotland, globally this was their biggest success, however their biggest hit in the UK was a No. 1 written by the Lennon and McCartney Obla do Obla Da.... They had quite a few hits in the UK and a couple of other minor hits in the US. A classic song with a great chord progression, I believe the writers Junior Campbell (he's the main vocalist) and Dean Ford) were in inspired to write it after reading of a Vietnam vets story of his experience.
@@crimsonwizard2560 Dean Ford born in Coatbridge, Junior Campbell born in Parkhead (Glasgow) as was Patrick Fairley and Raymond Duffy and Graham Knight, they were formed in the East end of Glasgow perhaps some of their later members came from Cumbernauld but not the original line up

The time this great song was released the music available to the masses in America was unbelievably terrific and eclectic. That was the great thing about that period of time.
Please listen to . * Dean Ford, Reflections * This I found years back before he died . Him singing alone gave me goosebumps . I had Reflections in my 45 record collection in the 60s. Thanks
That was a great pic. I haven't heard the song in years, and it was the first time I ever analyzed the lyrics. Very deep. I like how you said it makes you reflect on life. It made me think about ho quickly time passes and that even though we live in a bad world, its important to find our many reasons to keep on living our best lives. Thank you for picking another interesting song! Have a wonderful afternoon :)
Love you two, Mel your singing voice is beautiful, you should react to the lead singer's, Dean Ford is his name, solo acoustic version of this great song! It too is a beautiful thing! Dean Ford passed away a few years ago. Always loved this band and his vocals especially! RIP Dean Ford.
The deep pathos, the undeniable near-universality of the feelings expressed so soulfully couldn't help but connect with listeners, whether we were young, as I was, or more worldly. Great to hear it again, thank you both so much, I recognized the title immediately, but it got buried in one of my daily expanding playlists. Cheers.
You guys pick some of the best songs. Now that I'm 70, I get the lyrics more than when I was 18. Did not know the Vietnam guys really took to this song. Can see why.
Oh my goodness, I had no idea it was these guys that sung this! A beautiful, beautiful song 🎵 ❤. The song I remember by these guys is "Oh Bla Di Oh Bla Da" A song written by no other than Lennon & McCartney. Maybe you could react to that song and see the difference. Don't get me wrong, they're both great songs. Just so different. X
So glad you found this, The lead singer, stage name Dean Ford (born Thomas McAleese) lived just around the corner from me. This was my most favourite song and anthem from the 70's.
For some reason they dropped the beautiful guitar solo, normally in the middle. They have 2 acoustics here. Wonder why? Still makes me cry. God I took Marmalade for granted back in the day!!
RIP Dean Ford 😔....I was a baby when this song came out but I just recently found it. Tears flow every time I listen to it. Theres a vid of him in 2014 mixed w this one, before he died. I cant listen to it without crying. Such beauty. I wish I lived in those days.
I loved this song so much then (at 13) but the older I got, I couldn't believe how much depth these young guys (Dean wrote this) had. When my older sister died at 61 in 2019, this song returned to my mind/ memories and emotions in cascading significance. You both are great to watch on your reactions to these old great songs we grew up with.

Wow! This was actually a live performance, and it sounded great. Yesterday. I watched Rob Squad react to this song, and it was the same video, but it had the studio recording dubbed onto it. This live version was really nice to hear. Thanks for reacting to it.
Paraphrasing an analysis of this song, the lyrics are somewhat "sad" yet the music uses "upbeat" notes resulting in a feel good vibe. That's my dumbed down explanation of what I heard but that's the jest of it.
This song makes you reflect on the past. Great reaction. Maybe do some monkees sometime in the morning and take a giant step..the monkees started out a tv show about a band that turned a them in to a real band. They sang all there songs the entire time but later began playing their own I strume ya.
You need to find the video of Marmalade singing this and the video is showing images of soldiers in Vietnam. It is so touching especially the very end when it shows an pld veteran standing at the memorial wall with his hand up on the wall and the reflection in the wall is showing young soldiers in Vietnam. Gives you chills to see that.
Correction to my comment. The idea you need to look at is Reflections of my Life by Marmalade . The video is a tribute to Vietnam Vets. I said at the end of video it showed an old veteran. The changing
Of sunlight
To moonlight
Reflections of my life
Oh, how they fill my eyes
The greetings
Of people
In trouble
Reflections of my life
Oh, how they fill my eyes
All my sorrow
Sad tomorrow
Take me back
To my old home
All my crying (all my crying)
Feel I'm dying, dying
Take me back
To my old home
I'm changing
Arranging
I'm changing
I'm changing everything
Oh, everything around me
The world is
A bad place, a bad place
A terrible place to live
Oh, but I don't wanna die
All my sorrow
Sad tomorrow
Take me back
To my old home
All my crying (all my crying)
Feel I'm dying, dying
Take me back
To my old home
All my sorrow (all my sorrow)
