- The Jeep Compass High Altitude tries to take some of the magic of the Grand Cherokee and bring it into a smaller SUV. Under the hood is a 2.4L turbocharged inline-4 that produces 180HP & is mated to a 9-speed automatic. It's exterior features a unique front fascia and two-tone paint. On the inside you will find leather interior, an 8.4in infotainment screen and tons of connectivity. Is the 2020 Jeep Compass a GOOD compact SUV or missing something?

Thank you! I've been waiting on your review of the compass 🤗
I had a 2014, then a 2017, now I’m in a 2020 Limited and I’m loving it! Never had an issue with any of my Compasses (knock wood) - the 2020 is a lot peppier than the others were, and even a basically fully loaded Limited, I didn’t have a sticker price of $38K - maybe it’s higher wherever they are, but not as much here in NY. Only had it a month and a half, but so far I’m happy!! :)
So how has the compass been so far?? Looking to replace my wrangler for a more family car
@@dielugo10 get a Cherokee or grand Cherokee
I rode in one in the back seat and I thought it was very uncomfortable, The seatbacks are too upright with no recline, Great video as always!!
You are absolutely spontaneous with the descriptions. Great and smooth car👌👍👌👍👌👍
First time I've seen interior storage described by the amount of Twinkies one can have to avoid being a "Hangry Man."
The cop Bruce Willis befriends, in the first Die Hard movie, must be your spirit animal.
Me and my husband just bought a Jeep Compass 2021 year so far we are loving it.
Planning to buy this. Perfect for winter driving + very helpful features.
In response to my previous comment, most vehicles the Compass competed with have very hard, uncomfortable seats so it’s acceptable (I think?) in its price margin. I wish they would make them even a tad bit cushier.
You know I started watching Joe's videos because I'm looking for a replacement for my car. If I'm being honest with myself though It's to the point now where I'm just watching to find out how many twinkies I can cram into my armrest and how many jolly ranchers I can shove into my glove compartment.
I laughed way harder than I should have 😆
Hey Joe, I would love to see some used sports/muscle car reviews! Thanks!
I have one i love it but, jeep should fix the below:
- Add more room for keys, mobile, wallet, glasses
- Windows buttons control need to little shifting back because when you try to push driver window, your hand will push the back window putton
- switching off auto stop function.
- add 360• camera system.
Oh man I remember being at an airport Hertz once, I had booked a full size sedan and the goofball at the check in booth gave me the keys to a Compass. This was back in 2015 or 2016 so it was the hideous old model. I went back to him in a furious rage and demanded he rectify the situation. Five minutes later I drove away in a Cadillac XTS!
Smart move!
I test drove a Jeep Compass Limited, which I absolutely loved. The interior is super nice which really sold me. The interior doesn’t look cheaply made as I feel the Toyota RAV4 does. I will say, the compass is slow when it comes to gaining speed. I currently have a V6 car which easily gains speed in a quick time. This Jeep is slower. Gas mileage is a lot better than my v6 car. For a small suv, I actually really like this. The interior and the exterior look really nice. In my opinion, the Compass delivers on both sides. Whereas, the RAV4 or even the Ford Escape has nice exteriors but the inside of them looks cheaply made to me.
Don't do it, you are gonna regret. The MPG sucks
I've got a 07 compass with 327,000 kms (203,000) miles. My parents got it in December 2010, with 72,000 kms (44,000) miles. It has been a fantastic car, had the original 2.4L engine and cvt transmission. Unfortunately it's getting pretty rusty and most repairs exceed the value of the car. So it's going to the scrap yard pretty soon. Which really saddens me, because it still runs and drives beautifully. Like this 2020 he reviewed.
Thanks for sharing that input from your ownership Alex! I am so sorry to hear about those issues!
good job. very good review Mr. Raiti
Just bought a 2020 compass trail hawk, it’s amazing! I get about 28-30 on the highway
How does the car drive on the highway? Does it gain speed quick?
I had the 2008 compass. This is a big step up
One of the few reviewer I watch even if I know I won't buy most of the cars he's reviewing.
I loved everything about it except for the rock hard seats. That was a deal breaker. I drive a lot and could not see myself sitting in them for more than few hours. The seats in the Cherokee, however, are perfect. I could sit in them for days. They remind me of the 2019 Escalade seats I sat in at an auto show. Fit like a glove. Firm but very cushy in the right places.
I agree, I have a 2018 Compass and after sitting in the car all day my back hurts. It needs more power too. Decent little SUV otherwise and great in the snow.
I bought 2020 compass North, the best 👌.
Great video. This compass does not have a turbo its just a naturally aspirated vehicle.
Nice video👍 Renegade another winner from FCA. Like the looks and yes Jeep is cool with there Easter eggs😎
Had a 2017 compass limited interior was comfortable and good looks but it needed some more power
I own a limited model. The seats are very uncomfortable on trips longer than 30 minutes, it's sluggish and it kinda wobbles on the highway. But it's still a decent car, I leased it and I'm glad I didn't really purchase it.
Thanks for sharing your ownership experience!
ENCYCLOPEDIA BRITANICA ?! Dude your’re showing “ OUR “ age!! Say roll-a-deck next time🤪😜 I live for your comments like that. ( Twinkie’s , tootsie rolls ) I really admire your work and enthusiasm . It really shows and your detail in your critiques . I watch your channel a lot . Especially when you test drive mustangs . I love it !!! Keep up the good work brother .
Thanks for this, the compass is on the list for my next vehicle.
Same here. But waiting very much for the 4xe variant. Hopefully they will release it sooner
C-Man-The-Beast why?
🤣🤣🤣
I’m 17 and I like the new generation of jeep compass’s. I’m looking for an suv because I like to be higher on the road. Most of the suv’s I’ve seen are very big. I don’t want to drive a large size car but I still have want to be higher on the road. Do you think a (2018, 2019) base model jeep compass would be good for a teen driver?
I like this small SUV Raiti! thanks for the upload I've been looking into this car.
Careful I have heard a lot of bad things happen but if everything is good for you then it should last
How is the maintenance and how does the engine work? Have I been thinking of buying a 2020 compass? before buying it I want to know more about it.
Just had one of these as a rental! Didn’t realize this little thing weighed so much! Small tank and not so good gas mileage was terrible driving down to Florida! Nice city vehicle though.
What up Joe? Hope you’re having a great day!
Great video BTW
Hey man! I sure am! Thanks for the great support!
Raiti's Rides anytime 👍
I bought a used 2014 jeep compass for $12,900, it looks great, but not much power, but enough for me, it does have plenty of room and plenty of gadgets and is 4wd, but it uses a lot of gas, about every 5 days, have to stop for a fill up, so far I have changed the coils and spark plugs and fluids and filters and fixed a flat tire, but overall a good vehicle so far.
How is it now?
If I had to get one of these I’d opt for the six speed stick because I still don’t trust Fiat Chrysler’s automatic transmissions. They always seem to be “reprogramming” them.
Is that tranny shared with other automakers?
How do you feel the boost in a 2.4 when it is not a turbo?. The 1.3 us a turbo.
I love this Compass, Joe! It looks awesome.
True! The engine is so slow! I have been having issues where the engine shuts off while driving...scary.
This started happening to me!!! It was so scary. I needed an entire new engine.
Wow that’s scary I haven’t had that one, can’t wait for my lease to be up in six months
Well joe you know what there is a vehicle known as hyundai santa fe which has 3.3l 290 hp 252 lb-fts of torque. Can you do a review on that Joe?
Compass vs crv vs cx5 . Really confused which one to get.
Keep up the good work
Hey Joe, I spot a PT cruiser you passed by. Lol.
Everyone is talking about 30-40k for this but I don't see any prices like that on the market. Seems like a great car for 20-25k, right? (those are the prices I've seen)
Yes, I haven’t seen many of these going for over $30k. That goes for most Jeeps though I think. My wrangler went for $40k and got mine for $32k.
Depends on the trim... the ones you are seeing are the latitude or below.
Around 20k but plus warranty and everything you gotta add at the dealer
Got mine 0 miles for 30 but that's cuz I traded in a car they paid off, never again trade in tho lol but car is really nice
I have a 2018 I absolutely hate it the electronics in the jeep im curious what the 2020 is anything better
Lovely keep.
Hope that it comes in a 6: speed manual??
@Emilee Gregg automatic right ?
Is the 2.4L a turbo?
I thought their turbo is a 2.0L... no?
I just bought a compass and I love mine.
is it reliable?
@@certifiedlover2748 that remains to be seen I had a Kia for 11 years it was reliable no issues. I hope this one holds as well.
I have a 2018 limited it’s nothing but a headache had to get a new transmission at 18k two new modules . A new axle cause it came defected they said .. one year left on my lease than off to get the RAV4 XSE and the Jeep is way underpowered
I have a 2019 limited on a lease at about 10k miles. There was a rattle in the suspension and the auto start stop issue keeps on turning on the warning light. Got a year left and hope nothing goes wrong.
I work with a woman who leased a Compass starting 2018 and it's been nothing but trouble for her ...... 2 replaced motors already and still not right, 5/31/2020 .... ... I told her to think twice about her next lease/purchase ...
The entire engine was replaced twice??? I know they are garbage but that just really shows FCA quality.
@@Noah-ui1iu yeah, on her second year of the lease she had 2 engine replacement.
She needs to end her lease early and go get a Toyota.
I have one now as a rental and I hate it. It's slow, loud, and cramped compared to my Escape. I can't wait to get my car back.
FYI The 2.4 liter tigershark engine, which is what that is. It's not turbocharged.
You are correct it is not turbocharged.. I was wondering where his boost was coming from.
717 flyer shit fiat engine
Guys do u recommend me to buy jeep compass 2021 or Mazda cx5 2021 ?
Oddly named high altitude since its engine is so wheezy it would struggle up Vail Pass. Far better than the 1st gen POS but that's a low low bar.
I completely love the way the Jeep Compass looks, inside and out. However, when I test drove it, the engine was trash and the seats were uncomfortable. So disappointing.
Completely Agree with you
Really.
Omg I'm going to test drive it.
Before I spent this kind of money 💰
@@annaconstantinou2981 how did it go for you?
Just looked at that today! Was going to honestly buy it but the Consumer Reports were just so poor. Couldn’t take that risk knowing FCA history.
We just had to replace an exhaust manifold on our 5.7 Durango with many other issues at 30,000mi just can’t risk any more FCA issues.
That’s typical issue with the Hemi. I replaced mine 3 times since I bought my 2015 Ram 1500, but it’s the only issue I’ve had with the truck. I have 189,000 miles now. I don’t know why they can’t seem to fix that problem. It’s been a common problem for over a decade with the 5.7 Hemi.. I had the same problem with my 2017 Dodge Charger R/T.. The exhaust manifold bolts keep breaking!
Consumer reports is a political rag that has nothing to do with the consumer. The warranty would have covered any issues with your Durango if you actually had one.
Same here those reviews👀
I'm a proud owner of a 2018 Latitude just hit 30k so far no issues of any sort. Only thing is the motor wish it had more power 😂. My 2000 RAV4 accelerated way faster lol
I can totally understand that!
Same, 2018 Compass lease here 3/4 of the way done with it and nothing unexpected so far has happened (that I haven’t done to the car by accident lol). It absolutely needs more power! But they have the Cherokee and Grand Cherokee for that.
Joe I think it has a very good 4 by 4
That a hole lot better than the older model good job Chrysler just a little too expensive though 40 grand is way too much
I thought the high altitude is a new 2022 trim?
You won’t get any boost because this engine isn’t turbocharged. The 2.4L Tigershark engine is naturally aspirated.. The 2.0L turbocharged engine is an option in the Jeep Cherokee and not the Jeep Compass..That’s why this Jeep is so slow.
This JEEP Compass is just to get you from point A to point B. If you ask for more than you need to go for the SRT. Pay for what you ask for
You're paying and not getting what you asked for. 40k car 10 second 0 to 60. mhm
The 2.4 has oil burning issues
Which one has the panoramic sunroof
loved your review
2.4L turbocharged? as I know it does not have a Turbo... the 1.4 Turbo comes also with 180hp.
Is it missing a 2-driver seat-position memory ?
They really need to make adjustements in the interior on the front.
They probably do a 2022 redesign
When are you getting your gt350?
Is this a Compass Limited or Trailhawk?
I just bought a 2020 Jeep Compass Sport which came with a lot of options. I like the wheel covers on the Sport with the Sport Appearance Package and I like the smaller wheels,16 inch V 19 inch. I think the more expensive models with the big wheels and gaudy wheel covers are aweful. My Compass has a more simpler look which I like. I hate all the crap they put on the expensive models and whats worse you have to pay extra for the ugly look. I love my Compass and the best part its a plain Jane and looks great!
Was very lenient with the criticism of this SUV
Wich model it is high altitude! Limited ?? Latitude
The motor has a turbo ? Your outputs are for the normally aaperated engine
Thank for the info.
Can we add pedal shifter?!?
Nicee review keep it up!
Styling is always good. Mechanically, and quality...those are the issues / worries.
WOOOHOOOO no CVT! Wait!....I saw a Steak n Shake...turn around!
Msrp for jeep compass is 22, 280
00 not 38k. Im confused
This one is fully loaded.

@@RaitisRides Always my friend 🔥
great video but have you ever done the 400 HORSEPOWER Lincoln MKZ 3.0 twin turbo
Really love the exterior but I heard the engine and reliability is trash ☹️
For real?? I was thinking about buying one later in 2021
@@thejudge615gaming8 I owned one since 10 years, the maintenance costs are very high. save your money and watch the maintenance videos for this car and you will see why.
@@TheAmmarmns god dammit thanks man
@@TheAmmarmns could be the old model of the compass though? Is it really more performance prone than the other jeeps or crossover SUVs?

@@barbaraj9803 I love mine!! Good as gas mileage, SUV but not too big or too small, price is great also!
Does it have that annoying autostop stuff where it constantly shuts off?
Yes, but with a button to shut it off. I do in the city.
I just rented this car for 3 days for 190 it’s nice but I wouldn’t buy it it’s not that much room in the back for kids but it’s a nice care overall
I agree with you! Thanks for sharing that experience!
From the research I've done on Jeep Grand Cherokee is the way to go. My only concern with Jeep is their reliability.
10:20 have anyone seen the ficking geiko - lizard under the wiper???, ha! it scared the shet out of me when I went to test one, then I realized it is part of the plastic cover hahaha
I'll be blunt, i'm giving you a zonk for how you pronounce Compass - Thanks for the review, just bought a Tiguan!
no turbo w/the 2.4...
Quality is always the issue, year after year. When will they ever get their act together?
No need to get their act together....people keep buying them. Until they stop...nothing will change.
Never had any problems with my Jeep.
only performance cars should come with 45 series tires... not 4x4's... how do they expect anyone to take that off road with sidewalls like that?
It seems a bit over priced but it’s not bad looking. The RAV4 is also overpriced. The color combination on this vehicle is very nice. The ability to take it off awd is a huge plus. Keep up the great work Joe!!
Thanks for always sharing your great thoughts on this one!
Looks is fine. Just the small little brother of Cherokee. But that engine is appalling 2.4L turbo that only pushes a meager 180HP.....and its a turbo....how did Jeep manage to get so low output from a turbo???
@@441meatloaf who wants turbo on something made to cruise? I just got one, its so nice
@@bobthebuilderfixingyourgir7092 All other equivalent manufacturers with turbo push at least 180 hp with 1.5L and hondas do 190HP......Its such a bad design on the engine 2.4L turbo is expected to have at least 240 or more HP. Subaru 2.4L pushes 260HP. Its appalling at how bad the design. You wont even have the power to get up to speed on highways and to pass cars.....
It's nice on the outside, but it really is feeling it's age on that central console and dash, specially that ancient looking screen (not the contents of the screen, but the way the screens is integrates ino the dash), I think it's time for a new design on the 2021 model
Very god input and perspective!
The "we just stuck a tablet on top of the dash rather than take any time at all to integrate it" look is preferable to you?
@@JM-xp7ot yes
I am getting this car tomorrow
Congrats! You will love it!
LOL @ Emergency Twinkie holder
Hold out a bit 3rd Gen is just around the corner and it's one bad boy.
I’m looking to buy this car for school and work I work as a RN and this car would fit perfectly because every now and then I have to take a power nap in my car and the space here is great..had a couple of questions which car would be better this keep compass or the keep Cherokee?
Depends on your budget. I worked home health with the 1st gen Compass. It was easy to drive and park. I think it looked fun too. Responded very well on the road though I didn’t like to drive 70mph b/c it felt wobbly. Storage was more than enough. Seats were not the most comfortable, but I think 2nd gen has made them better. In all, it was a good car and I’d consider again a mid trim.
Hello Joe. Another video of Mopar. ;D
Just fir you man!
@@RaitisRides Thanks Joe. :D
The 2.4L doesn't have a turbo so right off this is misleading, also the 2.4L has oil burns problems..Jeeps 3.2L V6 is a good engine
I have a 2020 Compass Trailhawk that has a 2.4L - Jeep does not have a turbo for the 2.4L - clearly there is no turbo charger visible on the car you were reviewing when you opened the hood. The acceleration on my 2020 Compass Trailhawk seems faster than my 2017 Jeep Renegade Deserthawk. Your review of the High Altitude was a fair appraisal of the performance and features of the car.
Thanks for sharing that great input from your perspective!
Might need to take that renegade in to get the computers updated haha
Do we think a 6’5 person would fit
15:42 didn't expect the damaged sedan
Turbocharged. I don't think so. Is the same engine as the base motor used in the cherokee. No
turbo unfortunately
We have a 2018 Compass Limited and while I like the styling I just think they’re too small. The 4 cylinder engine needs to be replaced with a V-6.
Thanks for sharing that great input from your ownership!
That's why they make the Cherokee.
There are issues with the Transmission.
This is true!
