I referred back to your excellent FEC video just the other day for a refresher course. As for time is money, I know that I have always underestimated what my time is worth. Time to smell the coffee and wake up!

Boy, when you start factoring in your time, it can matter a lot. But, if you enjoy it and it’s a hobby for you, there are good benefits as well. It took us a long time to start turning a profit. Inputs are rough.

It's the little annoying things that add up and you have mentioned this in the past. Fix something, ANYTHING that trips you up on a daily basis. The annoying little things like a gate that doesn't work properly or schlepping buckets of water. They all rob you of time and make your barn experience a chore. I have used computer programs in the past to keep track of my goats and I failed miserably at it. (talk about a waste of time and money) A calendar and notebook are all I need. @@LinessaFarms

It's really difficult these days with the vet shortage we are all experiencing. I was just at a meeting of sheep and goat farmers yesterday where that was a big topic. I know there are different agencies in my state that are offering incentives, but if there are no trained large animal vets coming out of the schools, I don't know what can be done.

This is a problem and I don’t know what the answer is. Small ruminant numbers continue to decline (sheep down by millions over the past few years) and there is an overall lack of interest as well. For the small group of us that still wish to help, we need to educate ourselves as much as possible and share this knowledge. This can be difficult. Unfortunately, anytime there is a vacuum, people try to fill it. We continue to see a lot of bad information out there along with an increased number of individuals trying to sell fake, poor quality, or just flat out lies to people desperately seeking veterinary care.

Locally to us in Nebraska, people will do things for cats/dogs or cows and maybe hogs. Sheep and Goats seem to be second rate citizens. We have a vet that will go to my buddy's up the road for his cattle but won't come a couple extra miles to our place.

Dont rely on the system to keep you alive. Become your own natural vet.
