    4:30 What a scene, WHAT A SCENE. The way the actions slows down the moment the gun fires, to the echoing sounds of the gunfire with no soundtrack, to the slowly building choir as we see Jack with a dead serious expression for the first time, not even making a witty comeback or anything, to Barbossa very subtly feeling happy to finally be able to feel again, to then for this feeling being the cold embrace of death. Not only that, but the fact that he carried his apple with him the whole time, but that he was unable to get a single bite of it. Multiple character arcs and plots coming into an utter, brilliant conclusion in less than 60 seconds of cinema.

    • @realDarkPeterson
      @realDarkPeterson 9 месяцев назад +103

      Nah, it was cold anger. Barbossa had betrayed him, not just once but twice, done despicable crimes that goes against what even pirates like Jack can tolerate, mass murder of civilians among them. And from the very beginning, he promised that bullet was meant for Barbossa. If Jack cared so much, he'd have spared him. Barbossa and Jack's relationship do not get a turn for the better until after At World's End, where it's much more cordial, though some of that growth does occur in At World's End as well.

    This whole scene is just fantastic. I am convinced that Barbosa and the other mutinous crew members were unaware of Jack’s debt with Davy Jones. If they knew about it, they probably wouldn’t have taken the Black Pearl from Jack in the first place, knowing they had limited time with it.

    • @alpha-sama
      @alpha-sama 11 месяцев назад +52

      I think it's true Barbosa and the others didn't know about Jack's deal with Jones. Jack was originally captain of the Black Pearl (though it had a different name at the time) when he worked for Beckett. But when Jack defied Beckett and released the slaves he was supposed to deliver, Beckett sank his ship which made Jack turn to Jones to bring it back. Jack likely wouldn't have told his crew about any of it, not many pirates would have accepted a captain who used to work for Beckett. But I think you're wrong about Jones going after the Pearl once Jack's thirteen years were up, the one who had to pay the price was Jack, not whoever was captain of the Pearl.

    • @jordanelza8806
      @jordanelza8806 11 месяцев назад +39

      @@alpha-sama Perhaps. But we all know how Jones responded to Jack in movie 2 when Jack said “Technically, I was only captain for two years and then I was viciously mutinied upon”. Jones said “Then you were a poor captain, but a captain nonetheless.” That shows that Jones is simply evil and doesn’t care that Jack technically didn’t get his end of the deal. Not to mention, Jones sunk ships all the time for no reason. Even if Jack wasn’t on the Black Pearl when his time was up, Jones may have sunken it regardless. He may have asked Barbossa where Jack was and he’d have said he didn’t know, but this would probably just make Jones mad and he’d sink the Pearl anyway.

Firstly, it's implied that Jones has the curse of all curses, and it is also implied that he can kill people who have undead curses such as sailors like Salazar. Secondly, Salazar is a ghost vs. you a skeleton. A ghost is incorporeal, you could throw hundreads of cannonballs and explosives at it and it would do nothing, the skeleton aztec curse on the other hand actually posses material substance, such as when Elizabeth and Will put a bomb into one of them while they were under the moonlight, and then they explode into a few hundred separate bones after they are pushed out of the moonlight.

    I'm suddenly reminded of a TV advertisement for this movie. It spliced three moments together from this climax. Barbossa throws away his sword and declares that Jack can't beat him. Jack retorts that he could surrender, and then Barbossa shouts in a rage at Jack's comeback. Much as I like this movie, I think that edit was the funnier version.

    This is honestly the best potc film because unlike the others which have Jack in an insane debt, a stupid death prophecy, jack stupidly trading his compass and ridiculous plot armour, here we see jack at his best: witty, clever, cunning, kind, not arrogant, not stupid enough to trade his compass or barter with Davy Jones and manages to win with no plot armour against an enemy who is almost as talanted as he is.

    So interesting theory I had for why the Cursed Crew can react to pain. With each coin they returned to the chest, some feeling did come back. But a cruel twist of the knife would reveal the only feeling the pirates could relive was pain and agony. Robbed of the joyful sensations, they are only exposed to the cruelest of sensations in life.
    Just a nice bit of flavor for why the pirates audibly react to stabbings and shootings in the film

    What doesnt make sense here is we know the cursed pirates cant feel pain (Barbossa not reacting to being stabbed by Elizabeth earlier in the movie and when Jack stabbs him, and when Pintel had no reaction to Barbossa shooting him to test if the curse was broken) but the other pirates yell out in pain when they are stabbed/hit by Will and Elizabeth. Why do they yell out in pain when Barbossa and Pintel do not?

      I don’t think it’d part of the curse that they actually feel no pain. The point of it is that you’re consumed by greed - so you lose most sensation, but no reason that they wouldn’t still feel pain. I think whenever they underreact to it, that’s just through them being undead and semi-used to getting injured
