I got a wing style BCD recently and had my first dive the other day. Your tip for deflating it slightly at the surface to get upright is great! I noticed it was difficult to sit upright, so I'm keen to try that out this weekend. Otherwise yeah, just like you said, it's great at keeping me at a good trim :)
I just started diving and I bought a Halcyon wing with a backplate, I love it and I've never had an issue being tipped forward or face down on the surface.
The thing about backplate/wing BCs putting you face down on the surface really should have been put to bed by now; they just don't. What they do give you is comfort, security and freedom of movement. I'll never go back to a jacket!
Only got certified in 2020 and went with a hybrid BCD. It’s good for helping me maintain horizontal position in water, but I do sometimes feel like maybe it was not the best “first” BCD to purchase. I’m learning with it though, and getting better each dive.
Don't know when I dove a jacket BC last but have dove a lot of backmounts, But now its all sidemount. I absolutely love my Xdeep stealth classic 2.0 and my DECO harness and bladder for when is really warm. The deco harness/bladder with 2 alum 40s or 2 steel 50s are the closest you can get to diving nothing at all.
Diving backplate ‚n‘ wing. Kinda fits my tec diving twin-cylinders at home as well as single-cylinder rec diving in my holidays. But I need to have two separate wings to fit both styles. Like the modularity of that system. Actual diving XDeep NX system with Zen and Project bladders.
Hollis S25 wing, Hollis hts 2 soft back plate with hts weight pockets. I can sling a stage or pony bottle on both sides. Soon upgrading to a Hollis SMS katana because I can back mount or side mount.

Just bought the Scubapro hydros pro, spent the last week testing it in the red sea. Absolutely love it. Well worth the money.

@askmark What is the best way to dispose decommissioned BCDs while minimizing impact to the environment? Can it be recycled in any way?

dumb question: Does the transpac xt harness not support backmount and sidemount systems with some configuration and hardware changes?
Where can I get that blue camp Mares XR wing from?
They only produced it for 1 year, 2019 i think.
