Thanks for the great video! Safety is all important as we get older (62) and solo kayak. I like the streamer panel. I have the 3 x 3 sos panel.

Thanks for reminding us of the dangers we face when boating in any size craft. One thing I add to my first aid it is Benadryl for insect stings.

Ha I only considered a first aid kit for serious injuries but this I can absolutely relate to; now I guess I'll put one of these together too 🤪

ALWAYS love covering safety! I have almost everything you mention, but will get that Rescue Streamer. I'm in small lakes and ponds, but "better safe..." And the "dry bag" suggestion is awesome!

I was about to suggest the rooe, but you got it. Our kayak pretty much can't flip. But we can definitely fall out of it (I have video proof of this 🤣). The rope ladder (or however it's rigged) to help you back in really needs to be tested as well. We were in 8' of water in a channel with an outgoing tide and the closest water shallow enough for me to climb back in via land (mud) was a bayou nearly 2 miles downstream. The tide was too strong for us to get to the shallow water upstream (about 500') and it wasn't going to change for about 6 hours. Was a bit of a pickle. And the rope ladder was untested for me. At 6'4" and 260 lbs, I wasn't getting back in without it. And I barely got back in with it (it took about 12 attempts over an hour) - I was exhausted. So on the to-do list for this year is re-rig the rope ladder 😁

So true. When kayaks were narrow and just used for paddling, you could kick your way over the top and grab the side to flip. On these larger kayaks, you need the flip line. And... it is so easy to do!

I've been kayaking for 4 years now and this is the first year I've had a bilge pump with me 😂 granted I've never tipped it yet but that strikes me as inevitable so I bought one the moment I learned about them. I'm surprised that wasn't on your list but it's just occuring to me that maybe they're simply common sense for most people 😂 I still don't have a first aid kit but I generally yak the 10mi stretch closest to my house (and a hospital) so it's not really a huge concern. I've been using a dry bag since Day 1 - my spare clothes have been most useful for evening temp drops as we're approaching the end of that day's paddle. Thanks to you I'll be adding the Gorilla tape and a flare kit to my gear for sure. I already learned about sunscreen the very-hard way 🤣 Great video!

I have a pump strapped to the back of my seat! You make a good point.

What kind of hook remover is that? I've been pulling hooks out of people for years using double braided line but that might be tricky if I'm by myself!
