i just refilled an hp 12a cartridge. it is its first toner refill. how do you diagnose what's wrong with the cartridge if it isn't printing? i have shaken the cartridge to get the toner moved around, and i have printed about 25 blank pages. nothing. any suggestions? also, could you tell me how the copper spring is properly mounted onto the magnetic roll? does sit on the outside of the cup or below the cup? i did notice the spring has a straight edge that seems to mount somewhere.
Really professional and clean work. It's not a refilling,it is rejuvenation for the old cartridges. Please accept my admiration. May I use this material like info on our site? Thanks
Usually, a toner cartridge can be refilled 10 times. After that, cartridge body becomes loose and it becomes useless. Just like other cartridges, you can diagnose the problems of OPC Drum, Magnetic Roller, PCR, and blades. And you can simply replace these parts to fix the problem.
FYI, the average schmo isn't going to have an air compressor at their disposal. This method should also require a dust mask as ingestion of powder is likely. Am I correct in assuming you can't refill this cartridge with the hole burning method vs a FULL disassembly & inspection of the core parts?
Thanks for the comment. MIS Toner Plus has a special design of closed hood, which makes an airflow through the filters. Also, thanks to the powerful engine, the air and the dust cannot go out of the closed hood. To see a visual proof, please watch this video at RUclips; /watch?v=NwOXOhHlHow. We do not recommend hole burning method as the only concern is not the filling the hopper.
I agree, to be thorough you should inspect the parts BEFORE refilling, after all-- once you put the toner inside, your committed to the refill. It is unwise to re-use toner form a bad cartridge to another. My point was, instead of using a vacuum, you can spray compressed air into the hole and extract more toner from the cartridge, directly into a bag awaiting collection.. tricky but this is the poor man's method.
Gb Xx OK, I got your point better now. The main reason why our operator didn't do that is there is no vacuum engine through the waste toner collection bag. And therefore, if he did in the way you explained, it would spill out and then caught by the filters. Up to now, there is no problem and the machine is still capable of catching the spilling toner dust. However, that would shorten the lifetime of the filters, which costs some extra to our machine customers. And unfortunately, in that case, we would be able to be perceived as sneaky traders trying to sell more filters :(
Awesome video! Glad I found it. This is Plan B if I can't drill a hole and pour in the toner. You have an awesome workshop and tools. I will do this outside or my face and hands will be black like a skunk without stripes!
+++ Also the metal spring to the side of magnetic roller is important, too. Please make sure that these two are connected properly. In the video, please navigate to 07:00 to see the putting the spring to cartridge body.
It was first time I got my cartridge refilled today. The new demo cartridge gave around 1600 pages A4 output. Then, the man who refilled it, did not follow all this procedure shown here. He just opened it from one end, put the funnel into it, and poured a bottle full of powder and then closed it. He charged Rs 300. He also told me that I might have to change the drum next time. Is he cheating? How genuine is the procedure he did?
It is not the complete procedure as you can see. After dismantling the cartridge into two parts, both hoppers and components should be cleaned and checked. And if necessary, they should be replaced. OPC Drum should be replaced in each two refills, as well. So, what he has done is not the complete process and he was lucky that all the components were in good condition to produce good print outs.
Hello, thanks for your comment. When you rotate the drum with your hands, you can check any visible scratches on its surface or see whether the blade is wiping away properly. Of course, the best method is testing with its own printer. If you don't see anything on the sheet, it sounds that the magnetic roller is not charged and therefore does not function and pull the powder onto its surface. The spring is a common mistake. Please make sure that the spring is connected properly.+++
HI,
I would like to know where you got your machine? of breathing?
Thank you
Have you put the metal spring back to its place while assembling the cartridge ?

What a profesional you are, your workplace is amazing. Thanks for your video, it was very helpful
Thanks for the message. That cylinder is called OPC Drum. And yes, in each refill, you should clean them. And if necessary, you should replace them.
Una pregunta, hasta cuantas recargas se puede hacer a un toner 12A, y como saber que el toner ya no da ya..
