Dame Edna is the greatest comedic character ever created. Barry Humphries is so quick, so clever and so hilarious. Whatever the circumstance, his Edna adapts quickly and dominates the proceedings delightfully. The only other character who comes close to Edna is Jack Benny's cheapskate character, which he honed and perfected over a lifetime, just as Mr. Humphries did with Edna. I was lucky to see Edna's West End and Broadway shows four times, and they were the funniest nights of my life. I watch and re-watch the clips of her TV appearances and marvel at the genius that Mr. Humphries brought to the creation of this legendary character!
Just astounding. Turns a regular TV interview program into an old time music hall show, by way of the absurd, but always with wit, adding the macabre, basically entertaining, clever but never high-brow. A one-man wonder
It can seem like he is satirising my mother - some of the mannerisms rather than what he says - although he also has something of the look of my godmother.
We are going to miss him so much-always hysterical-thanks so much Dame Edna for all the laughs x

Of course, I never had a silent period like hers… Classic Edna :-)))
As usual, Dame Edna takes over the show! Great clip!!
Probably the best fanfare intro ever. As the Dame might have said, “Excellent blowing, boys!”
I’m convinced that Australia must be wonderful
My absolute favorite, Dame Edna :D She does have pretty legs.
I never had a silent period...
parky in australia - fab

I remember watching her shows lived rheum --she's hilarious -- her singing though needs work
And now Parky.
Koalas are NOT bears.
They are marsupials. Like Edna said, but a lot of people say koala bear.
