  • In this video, we are tasting Jumbo Kesar Mango grown in Homestead, FL. We will be tasting both mangos grown at our own farm on the west coast of Florida and from other Florida farms (mainly on the east coast). Mangos taste different when grown in different conditions and when picked at different times/ripened differently. Our opinions of a particular mango are just that - opinions on one specific mango, off of a specific tree, growing in a a specific location. We are not evaluating a variety in general and by no means intend to offend anyone by our less than stellar review of what might be your favorite mango.
    Sulcata Grove is our 2 acre, backyard food forest. We grow over 60 varieties of bananas along with many fruit trees. Our videos are family friendly.

    Nice review, glad to see you guys back with the mango tasting. I just missed buying a Kesar mango up here in Merritt Island, last Saturday, by 10 minutes! Did manage to pick up a few Alphonso though, which I've never had.
    From what I've heard, I will appreciate the superior taste of a Kesar more, after experiencing how good an Alphonso is, first. 😌

    I was in South Florida last month and tried lots of mango varieties including Malika, Alphonso, Bangnapali and Kesar. I am originally from India but I never had these varieties there. We had few other types that I didn't find in Florida. Alphonso and Kesar disappointed me. I would give 7.5 (out of 10) to these two. Malika gets 10. I couldn't find Dasehri (Dusehri) in Florida but that is another very good Indian mango.
    New varieties from Zill and other Florida growers are far superior. In my opinion, no variety comes close to ValCarrie. Absolutely the best mango. Juliette, Orange Sherbet, Nam Dok Mai, Coconut Cream, Guava Mango, Lemon Zest, Angie are some of my top picks. I have 30 varieties on my list that gets 8.0/10 or better.

      Bhajan Aujla It’s great to hear someone agree with how great some of the new Zills varieties are. This Kesar really surprised us. Very delicious. We were told the flavor of jumbo Kesar is better than Kesar. Growing conditions can change flavors too.

      @@SulcataGrove I learns a lot from your video about mangoes. In one of your videos on mango variety 'Taralay' I believe it didn't score too high on your list. I was at Walter Zill's grove few times (what a wonderful guy) and got few Taralay mangoes. They were really good (8.5). One thing odd about them is that they are not all same shape.
      I am trying to move to Florida so that I can grow tropical fruit and my top rated mangoes. That was my purpose of this trip to check out the areas.
      Again, Thank you for taking time to share your knowledge and views.

    • @SulcataGrove
      @SulcataGrove  5 лет назад +1

      Bhajan Aujla It’s hard to truly rate a mango by only tasting one. Flavor will vary with weather, area on Florida it’s grown, and nutrients in soil. Some mangos seem to change flavor more than others - even depending on at what stage they are picked. We moved to Sarasota to grow fruit. Hope you find the perfect place. Send us an email if you need help.

      No one can match ORIGINAL alphanso mango.....Devgad alphanso is original....they got Geographic indiacation for alphanso...devgad there is specific region who produce alphanso...Devgad alphanso and ratnagiri alphanso( there is specific region who produce alphanso...not everywhere)pls eat original fruit...from devgad or ratnagiri...

      @gamerbruh2587 Год назад

      @@rupeshg.3327sorry but that's a generalization. A standard dussehri grown anywhere will obliterate 90% of Alphonso and just because Alphonso has to be grown in one region to taste good makes it a bad tree.

    Glad to see you guys uploaded a mango tasting video, been wondering where you were this year.
    Regarding Kesar, about 5 years ago I had the opportunity of filming Ledesma at a Kesar project in the Dominican Republic. here is the video ruclips.net/video/JCnW56M77Yw/видео.html mostly in Spanish though.
    I spoke with Noris couple years later, and she told me that she planted some Kesar on her own property, I hope these are from her own trees. although the fruit you sampled in this video is Kesar, I wonder if it's a Jumbo Kesar. as it looked normal sized. in either case, they taste the same, they are identical, the only difference being the size of the fruit. you can see both versions in the video I linked. I like Kesar, they have pine/resin flavor similar to "Ice Cream" but just the right amount, to give it a unique spicy flavor.
    look forward to more mango tasting videos.

      agriperma Thank you! I will check out the video. Noris confirmed this is Jumbo Kesar - probably just smaller fruits off the tree. It was really dry this year when mangos were flowering and setting fruit.

    How would you compare the Jumbo Kesar to the regular Kesar flavor wise? Are they pretty similar? Or is just the size that is different between the two? Thanks for the review! I enjoy all of them.
