    This guy knows his stuff. I bought my 2017 Ioniq based on his great videos. I knew more about the car than the salesman did.
    This battery upgrade is great. I only wish I could swap it into my car for that extra range.

    Can't wait for a full test and maybe a race by you Bjorn to show what it is really like . We learn more from these than any blurb the manufacturers put out. Maybe something to line up when you get back and get the chance amongst all your other projects. Enjoy Japan and have a good meet up on Sunday.

    Looking at the car I'm glad I ordered the old one. It just looks better imho. And I prefer the higher charge speed over the bigger battery.
    Also, the black nose was an option pack that in some cou tries was applied by default. But that really depends on the importing company.

      I think that's right. I've seen that in a Korean video of the new Ioniq EV a few weeks ago. You could use it while driving like in a Tesla.

    On the KIA Optima PHEV, that Camera button activates the 270 degree camera system. The two side cameras are located under the side mirrors, but you wouldn't notice them if you don't know about them. Probably the same in this one.

    • @akse
      @akse 5 лет назад

      Depends.. Maybe you don't get one of these cars for long range trips since the overall range is quite limited.
      You charge at home... drive work and errands and small trips to bigger city maybe and thats about it.
      More charging speed and range starts to cost 50k+ pretty fast

    • @markusbechtel8200
      @markusbechtel8200 5 лет назад +2

      @@akse 30 KWh in 54 minutes means an average charging capacity of just 33 kw. This means that the new Ioniq is not yet compatible with the new 150 kW chargers.
      In most European countries a 3 phase power connection is standard at home. This would result in a charging capacity of 11 or 22 kw. A charging power of only 7 kw means that the Ioniq charger is not even compatible with European power connections.
      All in all, this is completely out of the question.

    Weight increased by 35kgs, as per press spec. release of Hyundai. So probably the power increase is to compensate the increase in weight. I expect it to accelerate even more sluggish than the current generation, as the torque to weight ratio is less good now.

    Hyundai has lowered the battery voltage from 360V to 319V. Therefore it charges slower at 50kW chagers than the old one. And still no 3 phase charger - max. AC chaging speed at home is 3,7kW.

    Ioniq28 is such a good balance of weight/price/range/charging speed. Hope they don't mess it up with more weight and slower charging. It needs real 100kW charging to maintain the 2.5C charging rate...

  • @theexmann
    @theexmann 5 лет назад +1

    Supposedly, there is lower voltage on the battery 319.4V vs 360 V on the old version. That could be why the new Ioniq might be less efficient at charging which would be a shame. If this is true, do you think it's because it now has a larger battery and is still only air cooled?

    The slower charging is the bigest question hanging over the new Ioniq for me, second question is the battery life difference (slower charging > ? because of diferent chemistry ? = lower cycle life ?).

On the current facelifts of ioniq and niro both brands are improving the quality perception in order to let consumer feel that ioniq/niro are more premium than kona/e-soul. Talking to a kia person here in Sweden I was told that e-niro will receive a small update next year (app support and refreshed instrument panel) but it will be more expensive (at least in Sweden). As of 5/15/19 the Tesla model 3 BASE price starts at $39,000 (Actual price, not after the tax write-off next year).
      That's 240 miles range, and very good performance for a Black exterior, Black interior, Black wheels and NOTHING else.
      The "Long Range" option adds a cool $10,000 for a BASE price of $49,900. For that you get 310 miles range, faster acceleration and two motors. You now have the choice of getting the car in Black/Black and Black.
      Want a white car - add $1,500.
      Want non-black wheels - add $1,500
      Want an ALMOST white interior - really just white seats with everything else pretty much black - add another $1,000.
      Want an all-digital, multi-function, dedicated driver's display with multiple options? Nope, you can't have that with the Model 3.
      Let's see, we're now up to $53,900 for our "$35K" Model 3.
      Give them another $6,000 NOW to have the option for full self-driving "later this year," OR, don't and pay them $8,000 to add the capability later - even though it's clearly nothing more than a software unlock.
      So, you're right, the Model 3 is only a little more expensive than the Hyundai Ioniq electric - about $30,000 "Little" more expensive.
      Yeah, I can see that....I can SEE how EVERYBODY who's looking to get into an electric for around $30K can just bust out for $60,000 for the CHEAPEST model Tesla instead. This also gets you a fairly decent BATTERY warranty of 8 years / 120,000 miles whichever comes first with guaranteed 70% battery capacity retention. The base CAR warranty is 4 years, / 50,000 miles. Not as good as Hyundai, but not as bad as some others. Hyundai's BATTERY warranty is LIFETIME for the same conditions. Hyundai's base is 5/60 BtB and 10/100 powertrain.
      Oh, and the Ioniq comes in colors other than black with interior colors other than black as part of it's normal pricing.
      I bought my Kona electric Limited for just over $42,000 - about $17K LESS than the Tesla. It's WHITE exterior with off-white leather interior - very open and spacious rather than the sensation of sitting in a cave. It also has real instruments, real environmental controls, without the need to keep looking over at a screen to see which touchscreen button to push. I don't think a lot of people have seriously thought about driving around with all visual information being presented on a center screen and the need to keep LOOKING at it to perform any task, as opposed to buttons, knobs and switches that can be "learned" and manipulated without taking your eyes off the road. Might want to consider just how much all THAT would add if Tesla had to incorporate conventional controls (safer)...probably at another $20K.

      This car is aimed at the European and Korean market. Many drivers of cheaper vehicles have only between 75 and 110HP to play with, so 135HP is plenty for the target market. I've been driving a 1.4 diesel with 78HP for the past 8 years in all sorts of scenario and never lacked power. 0-100 km/h in 15.6 seconds. For whatever in North America people still think they need 200+HP in their cars. No wonder they are so fuel inefficient..
