  • New trail called “Ono” at Swasey Rec area in Redding California. Built by Redding Trail Alliance, this one is a true black diamond up top with plenty of rock features to get the heart racing.

Curious what your thoughts are on the “black” rating. I think this is a bad move calling it this. I mean, I’ve gone down it, watching your video you had to redo some of it, there is no way this thing is a single black as there are no ride around. So if there are mandatory (multiple) double black features, it’s a disservice to the community to call it single black unless RTAs intention is to come back in and actually cut in single black ride around. Also, did you clean it before hand? When we went down two weekends ago, it was a mess of loose blocks in / on every surface which would bring the commitment up significantly if the “moves” themselves are true Db (and they are). Anyways, will be curious to see how Ono develops over the next year or two!

Ran the whole thing, it’s a true double black diamond. First time cleaning the whole line. It’ll get worked in better to allow for easier “go around” near the middle over time. Top is very steep and there’s no getting around that. Rocks are getting dispersed along the trail as it’s ridden in

Yeah I fixed that, I meant you reset in the middle of crux after S turn. The other thing I was thinking about is due to the steepness of the top, like you said, there will probably be an endless supply of those baby heads due to wind, rain, people. Watching your vid, someone’s done some cleaning since we rode it, and we did quite a bit as well. I think the chicken heads are the killers on the lines. Anyways, cool video and nice job putting it all together!

@roughster1615 I’m not a big fan of that S turn on the rock roll in, super tight to try and make that right hand turn before the second rock roll in. It’s nice to have some sketchy stuff for once, hoping it will work in a little better over time but the beginning will be a big turn off for a lot of people. 75% of the trail is flowy and fun once you get past the top
