I would like to see the targeting penalty switch to something like the nba’s flagarant 1 and flagarant 2 fouls. Only eject on the intentional or clear and obvious ones. 15 yard penalty otherwise
The NFL basically has this system too with the unnecessary roughness/unsportsmanlike conduct penalties. The player is only ejected if the referees review the play and confirm malicious intent.
Hate to come in here and say this, but for anyone who hasn’t been to the CU campus and is wondering if it’s as nice as Joel is stating… it has to be one of the ugliest campuses I’ve ever been to from the factory looking buildings to the location to the people. I hate to say it but I think it has done a complete 180 since Joel attended.
The SEC playing a cupcake in November is because of their 8 game conference schedule compared to the Big Tens 9 games. Now I would complain, BUT the bigger SEC schools do normally schedule a tough P4 school for that 9th slot. Georgia had Clemsom, Bama had Wisconsin, Texas A and M had Notre Dame, Texas had Michigan etc.... And while the SEC didn't win all those games, they won most, against some really good schools. This is why the cluster of SEC teams with 1 loss happens. Also I'm a B1G and PSU guy. Hoping to beat OSU this week, but they won the last 7 so.... not too excited. You gotta beat the man to become the man, and PSU can't beat the man.
Probably Oregon 70-30ish. Honestly, I'm hoping to get that 5th seed, play a home playoff game, that will be our real white out and hopefully have a ton of recruits there, and then play the BIG 12 champ on a neutral field and maybe we get lucky. Franklin is starting to win me over this season, but after not beating OSU for 7 years Michigan for like 4, he has to prove himself again.
@@boybrushedred18 I agree that until Penn State beats Ohio State, it’s hard to take them or Indiana serious. I don’t think Ohio State is as good as the AP thinks in its rankings. Oregon is the only championship contender in the Big 10. Do I think they can beat Texas or Georgia? Not sure they can. They got a better defense and an experienced quarterback, so that helps. The Ducks could win out and not make the Big 10 Championship and be ranked one and not get a CFP bye. That would be unfair and stupid. Oregon has played a tougher schedule than Indiana or Penn State. They don’t need to prove themselves to the CFP committee. I think Penn State, Indiana and Ohio State do though. Not saying they are not good teams, but they are all ranked too high in the polls. Hope they all prove me wrong.
@donaldjones9830 give it time to play out, these teams still have 4 games of conference play left. It'll work itself out. But yea the system is unfair, I knew that from 2016 when both OSU and Washington got in over PSU. But if you think about it, missing the conference game and therefore getting a home game is almost the same as playing the conference game and getting a bye. Actually you probably end up the 5 seed and get an easier opponent than in the B1G championship game and still play the same amount of games. Plus the next game you get the weakest conference champion whereas as the 1 seed you likely get the sec loser and the tougher opponent. Point is, don't worry, let the season unfold.
Idk if it has anything to do with corruption, but I do think there is a cognitive bias. Officiating across the board has been abysmal this year though, so it could just be a bad year for officials.
Joel, I’m a Michigan fan, and I’ll admit there’s no way we’re making the playoff this year. Too many problems to fix. Tag in Oregon, Indiana, and Ohio State!! LMAO
If you have 5 SEC teams at 10-2 or better (Ga, Tx, TAMU, Tenn, winner of Bama/ LSU) do all 5 make the playoffs or is one being left out? Big 12- one loss KState beating undefeated BYU in Conference Champ game nets 2 Big 12 teams in the playoffs.
What happens to the team that might be @ 10-2 and lose their conference championship, do they lose their spot to a team that didn't make the conference championship game?
Is there a world where army and boise state both make it in? If they both go undefeated for the rest of the season that would give army a win over Notre Dame and would mean Boise State’s only loss would be the best team in the country by 3
Joel, you say throw out the preconceived records, but then you give Ohio State brand recognition. Is it about on field performance or brand recognition? Their best on-field performance came in the loss to Oregon.

@@Mattw1014Aight so I think if we lose to A&M we definitely drop but unranked lmao? That’s just objectively not accurate lol. You’re telling me a 10-2 team would go from the 6-10 range to unranked because of losses to the current #2 team in the country and the current #1 team in SEC play? Not our fault two of our biggest opponents fell apart this year. Also, that was definitely not the same Georgia team as most of this season. That team hadn’t been seen since the Clemson game.
He hates Oregon and intentionally leaves them out lots of podcasts. He'll talk about who they are playing and the strengths of the other team. He does media shilling for Ohio State as if they're paying him off.
He did say they have the cleanest path, that’s a nod to the absolute cakewalk they have because Michigan and Washington fell off so badly. It’s unfortunate, but no one saw Indiana being so talented, and for whatever reason the schedule makers didn’t put Penn Stare on their schedule
Playing a “cupcake” team later in the season can be beneficial for getting valuable reps for your depth players while giving key athletes more time to recover. On the other hand, going through a gauntlet of tough games increases the risk of injuries.
I've never understood the hate for it. They are playing the cupcake either way... why care when it happens? I personally like more games earlier in the season that matter. Having to wait until week 5 or even week 6 for the first conference game is a lot worse than playing a late-season cupcake, in my opinion.
It still shouldn’t be allowed. Each team should get 1 cupcake game within the first 3-4 weeks of the season and then that’s it. No reason big league teams should be playing FCS schools in November
@Ermatinger503 to help them move up from FCS to FBS is why they play them. unless you are for keeping them in FCS. many people complain about why doesn’t NDSU move up from FCS to FBS. well money is part of it and with NIL, they cannot and will not compete. you say only the first four weeks, then you complain when they don’t have a top OOC game in the first two weeks. LSU had USC (who is now trash). Florida had Miami AND UCF. Georgia had Clemson. Texas had Michigan (who is trash now). Arkansas had Oklahoma State (who is trash now). Vanderbilt had Virginia Tech. Texas A&M had Notre Dame. Like the only SEC teams who had no legit OOC comp first 3 weeks was Kentucky (who started SEC play early), Ole Miss, South Carolina (started SEC play early + Clemson is the annual rivalry game at the END of the season), Missouri, and Auburn. that’s it!
Most targeting calls are BS. If you put your head down where your body or chest would be when a tackle is coming, it should not be considered targeting.
So if Ole Miss beats Georgia and A&M beats Texas, SEC gets 6 teams in the playoffs? And Big 10 get Indiana Oregon and Penn state, so 9 teams from two conferences? With the only other 3 are the winners from the other 3 conferences? How is this fair? Conference winners shldnt be a thing, should just be top 12
I honestly agree with this. It should be the best 12 teams going. Unfortunately that’s really hard to determine, especially with the crazy bias that a lot of these schools get. Really there’s no “perfect” way to figure out who goes and who doesn’t. Conference champions is an easy way to determine the top seeds, but then it gets muddy fast
Honestly 9-3 Bama or Michigan or Georgia or Florida would belong over 12-1 Miami. 8-4 Florida would belong. I’ve had it with the ACC. They have one good team a year maximum and have held the sport down since Trevor Lawrence left. Miami gives up 45 to unranked teams. They are not good.
Well glad ppl like you don’t decide on CFB playoffs. We can careless if you’re done with the ACC buddy🤡. You’re calling Miami bad but want to keep Bama who lost to VANDY and even talking about UF? The team we put 40 on and curbstomped at home? Yeah you Miami haters are comical and so hypocritical it’s pathetic. You’re crazy ash if you don’t think an undefeated team should be in. If Miami is bad, UF is worse for losing to us and Bama even more worse for losing to VANDY. Go CANES!💚🧡
You think A&M is a better brand than PSU? Seems so since you say A&M would absolutely be in with two losses but PSU would ‘maybe’ be in. Showing your SEC bias. Tell me how A&M has been a better team historically.
Well we haven’t seen Indiana struggle against any of their opponents whereas we’ve seen Missouri get waxed by the only ranked teams they’ve played but with Indiana they still have Ohio st left to see what they are really made of.
well... no.. but a win isn't always a "win". Indiana is winning in convincing fashion. For example, consider Nebraska: Ohio State edged them out with a 24-17 victory in Columbus, while Indiana dominated Nebraska just a week earlier, winning 56-7. Although Indiana hasn’t faced any ranked teams yet, their performances are more than just wins-they are dominating. IU is boasting a staggering score differential of 259 points over their first eight games.
@@og_goobert4230 The ultimate test for Indiana will come in November against Ohio State. While it’s great to acknowledge that the CFP is a definitely possibility for them, but the game against OSU feels like their National Championship. I would like to see the targeting penalty switch to something like the nba’s flagarant 1 and flagarant 2 fouls. Only eject on the intentional or clear and obvious ones. 15 yard penalty otherwise
Love this idea
The NFL basically has this system too with the unnecessary roughness/unsportsmanlike conduct penalties. The player is only ejected if the referees review the play and confirm malicious intent.
I’m a Bama fan and I think Bama should be out. You wanna be national champs? Be elite and don’t lose two games. Now losses aren’t as punishing.
Agreed. Although I think you can lose 2 games in the SEC, so long as your losses are to some of the top teams (Not Vanderbilt)
@ maybe if everyone else had 2 losses
If Oregon and Penn State meet in Big 10 championship, who wins?
I’m a Duck fan.
Absolutely right about Indiana Miami comparison IU would probably beat Miami I think they can beat Ohio st Hoosiers are a great team this yr
Do conferences protect teams that have a shot over teams that have no shot? Officiating seems to be really bad this year.
Idk if it has anything to do with corruption, but I do think there is a cognitive bias. Officiating across the board has been abysmal this year though, so it could just be a bad year for officials.
Bro thinks the committee is going to take into account Michigan’s growing pains. First off, they’re not even going to beat Oregon lmaoooo
Joel, I’m a Michigan fan, and I’ll admit there’s no way we’re making the playoff this year. Too many problems to fix. Tag in Oregon, Indiana, and Ohio State!! LMAO
Joel Boise State already beat UNLV last Friday.
They can play each other again?
If you have 5 SEC teams at 10-2 or better (Ga, Tx, TAMU, Tenn, winner of Bama/ LSU) do all 5 make the playoffs or is one being left out?
Big 12- one loss KState beating undefeated BYU in Conference Champ game nets 2 Big 12 teams in the playoffs.
I know Klatt did NOT just say a 3 loss UM has a shot!
Big Ten =4 , SEC= 3, ACC=2, Notre Dame, Army, Mountain West 1 !
Ohio State will go as far as that depleted O-line can take them.
😂😂😂😂
The Michigan copium is CRAZY. Obviously if they beat the #1, #3 team theyll be in but to call it "realistic" is absurd
Do you miss calling the night games? This is a question that I've had in my head for a while.
What happens to the team that might be @ 10-2 and lose their conference championship, do they lose their spot to a team that didn't make the conference championship game?
Mercer - the first team the Dawgs ever played
Super pumped for the ohio state Penn state game
Yes, if Michigan wins out then yeah they should go to the playoffs, but the Vegas odds would have to be like +10000.
And Florida too. If they win out they should host
Is there a world where army and boise state both make it in? If they both go undefeated for the rest of the season that would give army a win over Notre Dame and would mean Boise State’s only loss would be the best team in the country by 3
Ind opponents combined record is 26 wins and 37 loses. Only Nebraska has a winning record. So they may get in with one loss, but 2 I doubt it. JMO
I appreciate the Michigan concept, but let's be real. There is NO reason to believe Michigan could win even one of those games.
so 4 big 10 teams get in?
Oregon 13-0
Penn St 12-1 (conf. champ runner up)
Ohio St 10-2
Indiana 11-1
i don’t see that
Joel, you say throw out the preconceived records, but then you give Ohio State brand recognition. Is it about on field performance or brand recognition? Their best on-field performance came in the loss to Oregon.
if their only losses are to top 3 teams in very close games then they are gonna be in.
Aside from Oregons win over osu who has a better win then bama dose over Georgia ? Were gonna see 3 or 4 teams from the big ten and sec thats how this is gonna go. bama is very much still in this
What has texas shown. Really wasnt that close with georgia and struggled with vandy. If they lose to A&M can you point to a good win?
Haha, no you can’t. Well, I still think Arkansas is a good win if they get it. However, they won’t be ranked.
You didn’t even talk about Oregon’s remaining schedule or their path. What’s the point of that
He hates Oregon and intentionally leaves them out lots of podcasts. He'll talk about who they are playing and the strengths of the other team. He does media shilling for Ohio State as if they're paying him off.
Because they play literally nobody. Shame on TTUN and Fuskies for a record dropoff after the most meaningless title game ever
@@taxag1134it literally helps the other teams as well.
Like the only SEC teams who had no legit OOC comp first 3 weeks was Kentucky (who started SEC play early), Ole Miss, South Carolina (started SEC play early + Clemson is the annual rivalry game at the END of the season), Missouri, and Auburn. that’s it!
Buckeye fans, we need the team up north to beat the team out west. Hate to say it.
Most targeting calls are BS. If you put your head down where your body or chest would be when a tackle is coming, it should not be considered targeting.
Ohio State is pretty much guaranteed to be in the playoffs 99 percent or the years under this structure.
Didn't this guy say that Purdue would give Oregon a difficult time?
How can you not have Wazzu out of the PAC-2? They’re ranked and only loss is to a very good Boise st, wins over udub, TT
WSU technically isn't in a Conference so no Conference championship. They would have had to go undefeated and be ranked higher then ND.
Idk about a 10-2 OSU with that schedule
Its better than Oregons and Miamis. Top 7-8 win over Indiana
They’ll get in strictly on bias and because they’ll bring huge amiunts of TV viewers. Their schedule is weak outside of a couple games
Of course OSU gets special treatment from the ncaa and big 10. Bad calls happen every week, but only OSU gets the rules bent for them
I can’t believe what klatt was saying breaking down the big ten. Just absolute insanity. Lost all respect for him after that goodness gracious
I don’t think the Kent State U Golden Flashes are going to qualify this year. With all due respect to Coach Saban’s alma mater…🏈
Still waiting on Joel to acknowledge his pick NAVY over Notre Dame! Didn’t age well did it Joel
Go CANES!💚🧡
Trust man Florida is gonna win out and make the playoffs
Thank you for acknowledging that horrible pick from this Notre dame fan!
You think A&M is a better brand than PSU? Seems so since you say A&M would absolutely be in with two losses but PSU would ‘maybe’ be in. Showing your SEC bias. Tell me how A&M has been a better team historically.
Big fan Joel, your analysis is spot on! Trump 2024
If you’ve ever said keep politics out of sports, you owe me a dollar
Traitor
Jordan Turner’s targeting call should’ve been overturned as well. Orji lowered his head at the same time, complete BS
Joel Klatt Show = best
Targeting should be yellow card / red card. Simple.
Correction: The first playoff game was week three when Notre Dame played Purdue.
Simple math says multiple 10-2 teams will be out.
Has Indiana beat a ranked team? I mean you dogged on Missouri not beating a ranked team
It just carries such a significant weight and will ultimately be the true measure of their capabilities this season.
@@Tfostyy
Nebraska was ranked when Indiana destroyed them
Which part of Missouri has lost 2 games and Indiana is undefeated are you missing??
Honestly this is why FBS should mirror the FCS playoff schedule go to the top 25 or something like that that way it makes sense what's the point of having a ranking and you can't make it into the playoffs evening college basketball no name schools have an opportunity to win the championship I swear FBS is so fixed
Stupid idea
Wazzu doesn’t get in if they win out?
Nope!!! No Conference Championship really hurts them. Plus, they needed to go undefeated.
Beat Michigan! Let's go Ducks! 🦆
Boise st already beat UNLV didn’t they? I think UNLV is out
Targeting rules are terrible and badly enforced. Disagree with the way the rules are written and called...that being said, by the letter of the rule, how is that not targeting? Receiver seems "defenceless" based on rule and forcible contact is initiated to the head/neck area?
MARK this comment. Mercer will hang with BAMA and lead to strong criticism of their new boy. Auburn will stun them. Fire up Mr. Sanders. Sorry Colorado. Why you think Prime hangs with Saban in those duck commercials?
There it is CU
Comments on Big 10 out of conference schedule, Just as bad
Texas has only left Home for games except twice, and their schedule is weak, besides Georgia which they lost at home
