I always said that Frankie Fredericks was the Merlene Ottey of male sprinting. So glad he won gold here and Ottey won the women's 200m at these championships as well
@@pmodel1 It's not the same... Merlene did arrive every final as favourite (Tokyo 1991 100/200... Barcellona1992 100... Stuttgart 1993 100/200... Atlanta 1996 200)... Frank didn't... he was always favourite for medals but not for Victory Frank was however a fantastic Sprinter expecially on 200m
@@mariogar766 That's true. There were so many races I think he should have won though. The men's 200m in 1997 should have been all him. Ato winning it was cool but won in a slow time
Yep He beat Johnson a few times at this distance and would have practically dominated the 200m between 91-96 if Johnson hadn’t been around. Frankie got silver behind Johnson in 91, 95, 96.
@@BroskiRIP I could say he was having a bad day but for some reason he'd always be in a mood after he was searched like everyone else. I wasn't involved in the searches but I would liase with staff & the media. Who knows maybe he as a black man resented searches due to the high number of stop & searches during his youth. I'm from a similar background so I get it but to me it was no excuse to be rude to me & others.
both Aussie guys. We have a small pool of talent in sprints where other sports take the bulk of participants. Not too bad though - Capobianco a 200PB of 20.18 and 3 years later Damien Marsh beat Christie, Drummond, Bailey etc in the Monaco Grand Prix to run his 10.13 PB. Finally gold for Frank Fredericks, after so many seconds or third places [in a very good sports career] ! (and a very good time : 19.85 !)

Great bend by big John. Still the UK record holder at 200m.
Great to see Frankie Fredericks full of joy! 👍 🇳🇦
My hero... Your legacy lives on frankie
So happy Frankie won this race. I really wish he could have won more big races
he did, he even beat Jonnson a time
@@mwanykange Yea and thats great, but I wish he had won more titles

My Fredricks from Namibia, brave man and national hero
top end speed at its best
And starting at middle linebacker today for the Pittsburgh Steelers, number 56, John Regis!!!!
Lol. Regis was a tank...absolutely massive.
haha yes, he wasn't nicknamed "The Buffalo" for nothing. A gentleman too

This man was fast.
excellent race
Monster bend by Capobianco. Just didn't quite have the strength over the last 50m.
The eighteen and nineteen were so magic !
The 3 best 200 races are the 1996 Olympics final,2009 berlin and 2012 London
I agree
Male or female?
mike marsh went backwards
John Regis was head and shoulders faster than the rest.
that means just what exactly -
Obviously not😅
Unfortunately his legs were not quite as fast as Frankie Fredericks'.
Frederecks mio idolo.insieme alla ottey nella velocità
Possibly Lewis last good
sprint for 3rd!
How was Carl Lewis the runner-up when he was awarded the gold medal in 1988 after the whole incident
Eh?
say whaaat?
You are likely referring to the 100 meters from 1988. Not the 200 meters. This is video is on the 200 meters so your question loses context.
White seem to have the speed not the endurance

Stephanie Crock Damien Marsh was decent. I remember him running a good anchor leg for the Aussies in the 1995 Gothenberg world ccamps sprint relay.
