You do not require any STCW endorsements in order to get a National endorsement. She is talking about STCW basic training. There are other STCW endorsements too. All USCG approved courses are in this inclusive list www.dco.uscg.mil/Portals/9/NMC/pdfs/courses/courses.pdf
I'm going to Piney Point next month. I know this doesn't pertain to what you are talking about in this video, but I hope you dont mind me asking because I havent found many women in SIU stewards department to ask questions of. I began packing yesterday (a month early lol!!) and I can tell I'm going to need to significantly pair down on the civilian clothes I want to bring. For example, Joe Franta said he literally brings just one pair of civilian jeans and a couple nice 'going out' shirts as that's it as far as civilian attire!! What's your philosophy on packing for a contract? Thanks!
It depends what other experience you have. Best to call the closest hall and see what you need. The union has a free school you can attend. Seafarers.org
