Had an absolute blast running with ya and thanks for the shout out! Next time you come up to Boston we'll have to make it a little tougher for ya. - Jonah
Poor guy...I bet he was like "OMG...I'M FINALLY ABOUT TO BE FIRST PLACE!!!!"....then his heart must have shattered when he heard fast moving footsteps closing in behind him lol!🤣😂
You would love the challenge of our Tortoise & Hare race each April here in Colorado Springs. It’s an age, gender, height/weight handicap race where you start the 5k based on the handicap you receive. Lots of fun, especially for us older, faster folks 😃
Love your content Spencer! I used to watch your stuff all the time back in high school when I ran xc/track. Just getting back into running again, nice to see you still at it!
This was really entertaining! Been really enjoying your vids lately and the new podcast with Allie !! Love hearing about your guys' passion for running. Do you think your could do a video touching on your running injury? I also had a tendon injury but mine required surgery. I think its inspiring how you dealt with it and got into really good shape, would love to hear more about that process
I just want to say I love your videos so much and I hope to be as fast as you one day I’m trying as hard as I can and I hope to become a pro runner please never stop posting. I love your videos. Thank you for everything.
That is crazy how you were able to hold your heart rate between 180 to 190s! Very grateful to have an opportunity to witness one of the top 0.1% runners of this world show us his heart rate, how he trains, and what it takes to beat these races. Very impressed 😮 👏
Congratulations! I had a friend that did that in college, but it wasn’t on purpose. The race was in a strange town, and he got lost trying to find the starting line.
Is this Jamaica Pond in MA??! I can't believe it I live so close to here and do that parkrun all the time. Did you tell people ahead of time you were going here?? I totally would have joined
i think you should do this while starting last, with 3 min disadvantage, while wearing the turkey suit, pushing a stroller full of beer for everybody at the finish line!
Yesterday I literally had to do this, I got tripped and was in dead last in a 5k race, I went from 326th to 31st, not quite last to first but I'll take it
I remember when this guy was an underdog trying to make it as a professional runner. I liked to watch his channel and root for him! Now he punches down on the “competition” and beats teenagers and old folks in park runs. I’m sad about how this channel has fallen off 😞.
Lol, I never heard of him before, but he must have won the "biggest ego ever" competition. I am 45yo, and I only run sometimes for fun and do 5km in just under 20minutes. But my main focus is cycling, so I hardly ever run. But there are a lot of people in the track that are way faster than me. But I would never post a video with me running faster than some people and make it sound like I won the olympics lol.
My no spoiler prediction excluding the 1 minute waiting will be about sub 16 minutes. I'm going to say 15:45 Edit: Let's goo 16:05 is pretty close! I love these kinds of videos, maybe you could do a track 5k with spikes on like you did with the 2 mile and 4 mile time trial. I would like to see if you could break 14:30 on a track 5k. Keep up the amazing work Spence!
A couple of people are pretty annoyed about this challenge. 😬 Very cool footage & stats. You’re doing a great job promoting parkrun. Love the wholesome interviews.
Are you going to give a report on your Falmouth 7 mile race ?? I watched the feeds and I "think" you finished in 35:46 and if I'm correct, that is a VERY GOOD clocking. If possible maybe give us a rundown of the overall experience. I live in Texas and like you, participating in Falmouth is a long trip. Would you recommend your subs participating in Falmouth ?? I got questions you might can answer such as there's 11,000 runners and many are out of town How far away are the hotels and are there enough of them ?? Also the cost of the hotels - because if they're just absolutely ridiculous in price, that's a deal breaker for me. Did you stay in a hotel or Air B&B ?? Anda closing sidenote: the Falmouth race video feed was really lame. They showed the start and they showed the finish. And NOTHING else. But I did see you at the start and I saw you at the finish on the feed. What was your first mile split - things like that.
@@dready529 Yea I know - after I made the above comment, I was surfing the next day and noticed a new "Athlete Special: video had been posted. Oh well, "no harm no foul" as the saying goes.
With the greatest respect parkrun is not a race !! - I am 68 years old and last week started last in my 200th parkrun - passed over 100 and was about 1minute and 30 seconds on my normal time - thanks
I will give you a challenge. Let see if you can win Hospital Hill half marathon. Very hilly course my best was 1.12. The course record is around 1.04 by Joe Falcon a 3.49 miler.
This is intended as honest critical feedback. Not trying to be intentionally mean so hopefully it'll be accepted as intended. Your previous challenges have always been personal/internal challenges.... u against a course; u against a record; u against a PB etc... That's great! This one is different. This comes off as showboating and trying to upstage Joe Public... kids, moms & dads, ppl pushing strollers, dog walkers, and even a few senior citizens in the pack. It's not a good look man. You're still getting paid to train & run full-time so you're STILL A PRO RUNNER in every meaningful way. The only diff being you're non-traditionally funded. Maybe find a different angle? Take care.
Very respectfully I could not disagree anymore. I think this WAS for himself. It pushes him to catch up and do his best, and sometimes playing catch up in a race could be the best strategy for winning. It allowed him to not have to lead the whole race which is very difficult and even most likely helped the other guy he met run faster! It also probably gave him a new perspective on other runners he races against. I don’t see wut bad this video did and I highly doubt anybody running the race was offended that he beat them because that just simply would not make sense. Again tho, I’m not trying to change ur perspective, I’m just letting u hear mine!
Lol what a fun video, dont worry about the haters, people get upset for no reason these days. Everyone benefits from seeing someone run fast! Its inspiring!
I wish you had been in Boulder this Saturday! There was a huge group of South Korean women who all ran 16 something. Would have been cool! Great job passing everyone - what a cluster! And on no sleep!
Next time try doing this in a race, Parkrun is a fun community event, you do not need to try and belittle people because you are so much faster. Try running against people of your level, see if you win then :(
Not to brag but I’ve done this before i missed the start line in a fun run and ended up winning the race but it was 7k not 5k so I had an extra 2k so it was easier
I would have been much more impressed had you simply said "i ran a 5K in 16 mins..." Fantastic effort, but kind of a douchey method. As someone who runs and races frequently, nothing frustrates me more than someone showing up to the race in the wrong pace bracket. If you are likely gonna win, start in the front. While some people were cool with it, i guarantee most were irritated by it. I was stuck behind some old guy who wanted to stand at the front of the start line, and he was a dangerous obstacle for all the faster runners around and behind him. I usually don't get passed in a race though cuz people dont usually make those kinds of douchey mistakes when they're experienced and fast. This was a bad idea and not very true to the sport of running.
Had an absolute blast running with ya and thanks for the shout out! Next time you come up to Boston we'll have to make it a little tougher for ya.

The insta 360 camera + the coros stats was awesome. Great video!
It was so trippy to see the course be a mirror image in this video. Thanks for coming by!

WOW that's incredible that you won after starting 1 minute later :) Great job!!
I did that for a charity (The Iris Find) at the Ridgefield Half Marathon. I didn’t win, but super fun to go hunting from step one!

You can’t do that when cross country kids are there 😂
That was a very entertaining video Spencer. Next time you do a park run you should wait two minutes before starting.
The GOAT and OG cameraman Larkin! ❤

Hey matte that camera is amazing !!
What do you use to show pace, speed etc etc ?
These are my favorite!
I’m not sure parkrun is an appropriate place to do this
Come to the Uk and do it some time 😂. There's usually 350 people at our parkrun and I think our course record is 15:12 with probably 70% on trails.
A couple of people are pretty annoyed about this challenge. 😬 Very cool footage & stats. You’re doing a great job promoting parkrun. Love the wholesome interviews.
The pov with the stats was super cool
i vote that you do this challenge again with a a three minute wait
Bigger the buffer, greater the odds are you'll hit a park run with a decently fast runner you can't catch. You OK with losing?
Get this man a gold medal
Is a parkrun a race?
Go Spence! 🎉
"Mom can you come pick me up? yeah, Spence is sandbagging again"
You should start the San Diego holiday Half Marathon in last and chase first.🎉😂
Love Jamaica pond!
that camera was sick
Dudeeeee, 🎉😂 great video, 😂😂
You should do it with a weighted vest next time!
Good share!
God, I miss Jamaica Lake. I used to run this every day.

How long can you sustain a 180-190+ heart rate?
Is the calorie counting normal?
Oh my gosh, is this JP? I can't believe I missed witnessing this ahaha
Dude I live near jp and was thinking of doing this that day thats crazy
Isn’t calories burned stat a complete bullshit here? Running at 190BPM and burning ~30kcal on a 5K run?
I literally freaked out when I saw this because this route is were I run and I do this park run a lot
How do you find all of these races?
What was the time tho?
3 min buffer next time! =D Great job, Larkin!

When flexing at the special olympics goes well😮
You should do a marathon!!
You should race only people under 12 or over 60!
How would he get into those races though
I will give you a challenge. Let see if you can win Hospital Hill half marathon. Very hilly course my best was 1.12. The course record is around 1.04 by Joe Falcon a 3.49 miler.
You should race Allie with a one minute buffer in a park run
5k race but count miles. why?
LARKIN!
