Hello, Arek here. So, what do I have for you today? A boss run of one of my all-time favorite games. Steel Empire is a rather unique shoot'em up with steampunk aesthetics and some references to books of one of greatest writers, Jules Verne. I wanted to do this boss run for along time but some of the bosses here have patterns quite close to what would be in a bullet hell while you have almost your entire sprite as a hitbox. This makes some of the battles extremely hard to the point where you have to rely on knowledge of the boss' patternt instead of actually looking at the bullets. It is especially true for the last phase of cannon projectile fight: you don't react or even try to see fast bullets there - you have to remember when they will be shot and in which sequence and hope that you are doing correct maneuvers. It is not that hard to survive in this game since you are given quite a long HP bar but doing perfect boss fight is another story. In the end I managed to record all bosses and minibosses in this game all of which you will se in this video. I took most of the boss names from both US and japanese manuals and made up generic names for those that were not present there.
The boss run is made on 'hard' difficlty setting using Striker plane. Also I did not pick up options to slightly reduce overall load: the game start to slow down quite much on latter bosses and I did not want to make it even worse.
Well, that's all I wanted to say. Hope you like this video.

I highly commend you on this! going into this game while deciding against using the orbiters/options must've been a pain not just in the glutes but the whole body! tried it myself... can't get far without them! and while your Zepp takes far more hits than the Striker, its slow pace makes it less than ideal for hard mode, let alone no-damage runs. kudos to you!

I love this game, my favorite 16-bit shooter. People gave Hot-B a lot of crap about making bad games but this was one of the most impressive of it's era. I love the level-up system and the music is awesome

In the original Japanese he's actually "General Sauron," because they just put in a bunch of random names from Western stuff they liked (same with Motorhead) after Studio Ghibli said they weren't interested in the original pitch of this as a _Castle in the Sky_ game.
Also I prefer Garland's original English-translated title, "Colossus Cannon Train." Can't believe they got rid of the railroad gun in that sacrilegious modern version.

I think it's more to do with them thinking it might be copyrighted, since the direct translation would be "Saron" (hence the most likely error would be "General Salon").

Not so much a parody, as keeping with the framing device in the Japanese manual--a Japanese film based on "Steel Empire", a (non-existent) classic German novel from around Jules Verne's time.
