The yz80 is not only gapping all the new 85s I got a 95 with almost 100 hours on it still starts first kick runs like a scalded dog. Going to rebuild over the winter but she doesnt need it lol just always been one to replace before they wreak havoc. You wont catch me one something made after 2010 ever.
Was looking thru your old videos and I found the one that got me into your channel. You guys have improved alot in the last 2 years.(it might help that Charlie doesn't have such a high voice anymore)
honestly i was raised to hate Hondas, and i don't hate them, but i'm a yamaha boy. To me, it goes Yamaha, Kawasaki, Honda, then Suzuki (in order of best to worst) idk it's just something about the Yamaha that i love
Tristen Kiesow funny because I whooped two Hondas at the dunes racing up a hill. My brother who was on a kfx450 was my only real competition that day. Idk different people have different stories. I've had good ones with my Yamaha, so I'm sticking with it
In 1995 Yamaha made the yz80 a midrange/top end missile rocket with 6 gears, upside down forks, and big bike feel. I had one as a teenager and it pulled hard and forever. Rode one again this summer 20 yrs later and it was exactly like I remember. Super hard hit
Max Rainbird *That Honda sucks it's newer and it's still slower until it gets to sixth gear which the Yamaha doesn't have!! They're dirt bikes so who cares if it's faster in a long stretch of road!! Since the Yamaha is faster up to its top speed and the Honda only passed it in the end because of sixth gear that means the Yamaha would be a much better choice for dirt racing and of course they are dirt bikes! I mean how often do you use sixth gear when you are racing on a dirt track!!! I'd much rather have the bike that gets it off the line because a good start is important in Motocross, I should know I raced for quite a while!!* *Yamaha was always the better bike in motocross and still is!!* *Actually Yamaha is the better bike all the way around, dirt and street, well for Japanese bikes anyway, Harley's are better for street Yamaha it's most definitely the better dirt bike by far!!!!!*
If we are doing 2 stroke my order is Suzuki, Honda, Ktm+husky, Kawasaki, and Yamaha. I hate Yamaha 85s. The foot peg lay out and just the overall feel of the bike has yet to impress me. The Suzuki in my opinion feels awesome and handles just right. 4 stroke however goes Yamaha, honda, Kawasaki, and Suzuki. (Leaving the ktm and husky out since I’ve never ridden one) idk what it is 4 stroke Yamaha’s are just awesome😂
I’ve heard you mention a couple of times that the YZ only has five gears. I’m pretty sure that they all had the same amount of gears as all the other bikes. 6 speed, transmission gearbox. Still enjoy watching your clips.
I've never ridden a Yamaha YZ80 but I heard about them a lot back in the 70s and 80s, also heard a lot about the RM80 however I did ride a new 1983 Honda CR80 when I was 15 years old and I could barley keep the front end on the ground. It didn't have a lot of low end torque but when the rpm's came up a bit the torque came on like Donkey Kong 😳. Not sure if the YZ or RM torque band was similar but that CR was scary fast.
when do you need 6th gear on a track? you'd never get past 4th on a short track...The YZ would kill you on any MX track. Yours would shine in a enduro race.
So the Yamaha won then. That was faster at the beginning so it had more torque and then once the useless rpm range came he fell back. So that tells me its geared more for low end torque then high speed race. Perfect as a dirt bike should not be geared for top speed. So one win for the Yamaha.
Weight of the riders matters and both should at least have fresh top ends; one could have way more hours or abuse than the other -air filter maintenance etc. Good entertainment though. I have the Honda and it's true that going WOT, you can't keep the front wheel on the ground.
The 80s yamaha's what do 99 hour on Blacktop they had the power band on it it kept up with a Suzuki 125 I thought for sure the YZ would win because how fast they are on the takeoff congratulations you got a wicked bike Wildman
My 1980- Yamaha YZ80 yellow and black "bumblebee" my cousin and I owned from new until 1989 when we sold it never got beat by a Honda CR80. In fact it would stomp them into the ground as well as 100cc and 125cc 4-stroke enduros. Don't know what is wrong this this kid's Yamaha YZ but it ain't right or he is sandbagging it. The Yamaha was always the faster bike and both my cousin and I raced ours a lot in the 9 years we had it to know.
It easily beat a 1987 Suzuki DR100 4-stroke on many many occasions. It would walk away from it.....I know....that was the bike I bought to replace the Yamaha YZ80 with until I found out my old bike was better! :D
my cr80 was a 2001 I had a 105 big bore stroker kit, FMF fatty pipe with shorty, v force 3 reeds, full GPS suspension, twin air filter, ran 110 octane, had it geared wider, 12t sprocket on front, 51t on back, pro taper SE bars, Scott grips and donuts, gripper seat, FMF graphics, all new paint and plastic kit, and hot rod bottom end and lots more but the thing was a screamer...I could never keep the front tire down I mean never...bike was scary to ride and I weigh 165lbs and it carried me like nothing
+2vintage yeah fast asf but expensive...always going through chains and sprockets like nothing and was a bitch on gas 😂 all in all the bike cost me about 5g then I traded for a decked out blaster than traded that for a 96 cr125 witch I just got the other day now I'm building that into my new sleeper😈
I own both and the cr might be faster but the yz gives more smiles. Love em both. Wanting to trade my cr for a 85 if anyone in the PA WV OH area wants to make a deal. My cr got new everything was a full restore has never been laid down since rebuild
I own a 1984 kawasaki tecate 250r three wheeler vforce 3 reeds wisceo piston and uni air filter 58mm carburetor the swingarm is 9 inch's longer then stock it's a mean bitch
I have the same bike I got super cheap but only thing is the big bore and the piston for messed up , I'm trying to rebuild the top end...what are some good cheap parts for the bike?
+2vintage thanks for the help they aren't really deap but i dont really want to take the risk of buying a new piston and then getting the piston scratched too
I recently sold a 1989 yz80..it had fresh rebuild! I smoked a couple of late model yz85's on it..older bikes are built to last
i have o yz 80 1997 and its faster than ol 85 s
The yz80 is not only gapping all the new 85s I got a 95 with almost 100 hours on it still starts first kick runs like a scalded dog. Going to rebuild over the winter but she doesnt need it lol just always been one to replace before they wreak havoc. You wont catch me one something made after 2010 ever.
@@Hasangurbiyiklithos 80s have longer gearing and higher top speeds that’s why
i just got my CR 80 today and its fast AF, i love it though
Sled_NeckX99 nice man! Yeah they are crazy fast!
Whats the high of the sit
Claudio Giorgianni the CR80 is good for most 13 or 12 year olds if your a bit shorter
@@mesggdaahbf5786 yeah. I sold mine because I got sick of how short it was.

Probably different sizes of sprockets the Yamaha yz80 front wheel was lifting in 1st & 2nd
@Luke Strohmeyer Certainly a gear ratio difference, that could definitely be why he won.
Nah the older cr80s are insane mine keeps up with 125s off the line
Nah yz80s were nuts, they always had more top end than the others, rm80s were crazy to but the LX and cr80s never kept up
DJ Higgins you obv never had or rode a 1990 cr80r
Nah I have, maybe they were crazy for the early 90s and late 80s but after that and relatively soon after that the hondas weren't anything impressive
Honda will always be my favorite
sameeee
I just picked up a 1992 yz80 today for $425 and I love the damn thing. Great little pit bike.
Nice same here except mine is a 2005 cr85r runs and drives and g jt for $1000
not considered a Pit Bike
@@jeremyhoward6945 for someone who is 5’9 it’s a pit bike
@@itzzgraham I'm 5' 10 I wouldn't consider it a Pit Bike lol
I'd choose the cr but actually doesn't matter so much it's all about maintenance and love
There goes your top end lol
After You's race swap bikes and do it again to see which bike is really faster
lil dude smoked him at driving skills 😂 my old cr was way faster than my yz
love the old two strokes!!! sometimes I drive my dads 1978 DT 400 and it's wicked!!!

DeathWalkersThirdWheel you forgot ktm and husqavarna.
Chris Folmar ohhh yeah sorry ktm is second and I don't care about husk
DeathWalkersThirdWheel ever rode a Suzuki there fun bikes the old ones are the best tho super sturdy and easy to find parts for
Game Noobs I used to have an old Suzuki quad, but not a dirt bike. All I know is the newer Suzuki dirtbikes= RIP

I'm a Honda fan
The YZs were traditionally slower and smaller for younger and/or inexperienced riders. The KX/CR were the fastest and the RM was a good in-between.
Not true
@@elislifestyle3600 How so?

You’d otherwise be correct. It used to be the tamest 80.
@@brettfrimmer6567 How "otherwise"? I was correct.
I’m a fan of both they are both amazing bikes
Very cool guys.. i was curious about that..maybe your bikes have different sprockets
Lol more weight on the cr and worse start and it still won that proves Honda is the best no arguments.
LetsPlay2day but then you have a Kawasaki picture no jk I'm a Honda fan too
Max Rainbird I'm a Honda guy too but are they the same year?
gaming tv the cr was an 01 i think and the yz 00

They YZ is the lightest of all of them and definitely loves to stand right up
👍for honda

If you're looking to drag race your dirt bike by a Honda but if you want to get down in the motocross race Yamaha all the way bro

When I was a kid in the 1980s my m8 had a 1980 cr 80 and I had a 81 yz race tuned and that was quicker than the cr.

I like both of the bikes, but just something about a Honda. I prefer the cr if I had the choice. Terminator 2 had some sweet footage of the cr 80.

if you have deep scratches you need to bore it out to the next size
+2vintage thanks for the help they aren't really deap but i dont really want to take the risk of buying a new piston and then getting the piston scratched too
Is it a 6 speed and a 5 speed? My yz80 had 6
You should do the yz80 and the cr80
Wasn't that what this video was?
Tried to shift into 7th gear and still won on the CR
