Oh, dear Opium. My mother's fave, and I keep putting off getting a bottle because I know it's going to be highly emotional. One of the most beautiful perfumes, ever EVER!
Just ordered Tabu after browsing online for a cheap thrill gift for myself. CAN’T WAIT for it to arrive! I’ve been craving something heady and rich, and I’m running low on my Angel so a loud patchouli is MUCH needed ASAP. I heard it’s a little maple syrupy and “Christmas-y” which I love. Thank you for your eloquent words on all these perfumes, you are a delight to listen to! The way you describe these perfumes is how I feel about one of my favorites- Elizabeth Taylor’s Passion. I spray that on and my eyes roll back and my heart pounds a little harder😂 I have tried Opium (new formulation) and got that baseless off putting smell and gave it away. I hope you have a wonderful day!
I freaking love listening to you talk about perfume. CK Obsession is ELITE. I love it it so so much. I have each iteration from kidney shape onward except the most recent from Coty.
Mary-Grace, we have the same superior taste in fragrance. 😂 I'm definitely a vintage fragrance lover. I currently have, and love Obsession, Tabu, Fancy Nights, Angel, and Occur! I'm also enjoying vintage Timeless. In the past, I've had many powerhouse fragrances....Opium is a favourite of mine. ❤❤❤
Omg that’s exactly how I felt about opium, it’s great but I needed more, I had the reformulated version but I gave it to my step mom since her absolute favorite scent is youth dew. She was so excited to get it so I’m glad she’ll get more use than I was getting.
Youth dew and cinnabar were my grandmother's fragrances. They immediately bring me back to her also mesmerize by Avon i still have the original perfume oil that was my great grandmother's.
Here is Corday's original (1924) note pyramid for Toujours Moi: (40 notes) Top notes: aldehydes, cognac, bergamot, peach, plum, petitgrain, lemon, raspberry, orange blossom, jasmine, almond, thyme Middle notes: geranium, clove, ylang-ylang, nutmeg, lavender, lily of the valley, lilac, heliotrope, rose, frankincense, myrrh, honey, carnation, hay Base notes: patchouli, amber, sandalwood, musk, vetiver, benzoin, leather, camphor, tobacco, Tolu balsam, tonka bean, vanilla, oakmoss, castoreum Some people swear they can still smell some of these ingredients in the Dana formulation. Others say TM smells very similar to Habanita. Do you like any Elizabeth Taylor perfumes? I'm just now discovering this brand. As a lover of spicy-smoky orientals whose signature is Obsession, I really enjoy Diamonds & Rubies, a peachy-spiced red rose. Apparently, D&R is in league with the bolder Rare Rubies by Avon & the even bolder Cinnabar by Estée Lauder, in terms of its dominant rose/cinnamon accord. Parallels in this direction can be found in the now-discontinued Tentations by Paloma Picasso; the nose behind which is the same nose responsible for D&R, Sophia Grojsman. Also a new, unexpected love for me is ET's Gardenia--a sharp departure from my predilection for orientals but now a summer staple. This scent is intriguingly paradoxical: at once clean & elegant AND naughty & erotic. Just something about the buttery quality of the just-sweet-enough, musky gardenia that many allege is as authentic as gardenia has ever been rendered in a perfume, rivalling Chanel's (1925) Gardenia in quality yet far surpassing Chanel in longevity & value for the money spent. Passion is not my olfactory cup of tea, but White Diamonds Night is next on my to-buy list, a warm, vintage-y, unisex-leaning, Nag Champa-esque oriental full of fruity smoke. White Diamonds En Rouge (2019) is a beautiful, peppery rose though a touch too formal for my taste, an elegant if slightly generic evening gown affair. If you can recommend a nice violet-forward perfume, please let me know. Preferably an iris-free violet, like Paris by Balenciaga. My very first perfume at age 12 was a violet soliflore the name of which escapes me. I just adore the color of that wall behind you! Such a gorgeous teal green. But I digress..... If you enjoy chypres, you may enjoy For Her by NR (black bottle) & Histoire D'Amour (1984) by Aubusson is an oakmossy, aromatic chypre with an earthy-herbal top, a honeyed-floral heart, & sweet-woodsy finish. Very long-lasting. Dalida! One of my favorite singers, too. Favorite songs are 'Nostalgie' (a Marty Balins remake) & 'Voila Pourquois Je Chante'. Since you live in Canada, I recommend buying your frags from fragrancebuy.ca. Check reviews. A discount perfume site, totally legit; each bottle comes with a genuine product guarantee. I've purchased 3 from them thus far. No problems, super fast shipping. They're selling Toujours Moi for $21.95, EDC, 120 ml. Currently sold out. I recently discovered Johnson's shea-cocoa butter baby oil-gel at Walmart, $5. Not an oil, not a gel but a hybrid, quite greasy but moisturizes 10X better than oil alone, so says the label. I bought it. Now I'm kicking myself for not buying 2-3 more since this 200 ml cheapie is the fastest moving item in the Infants dept (not health & beauty section). Sold out every week! So what it does (better than any of my lotions) is extend the life of my perfume--applied to my décollété. I have no other use for this oil-gel & frankly don't want to waste it for non-perfume purposes. The bonus is a super hydrated, silky soft chest. See if this product works for you!
The best violet fragrance I've *ever* encountered is Insolence by Guerlain. It's like those violet candies with a sandalwood, Tonka and resinous base. Amazing stuff.
I love this series! My mother loved Jean Nate it was not a scent I liked. It was her go to. However, my grand mother's scents were wonderful. She loved Youth Dew by Estee Lauder. I remember the scent being musky. She also loved Tabu. Thank you for sharing. Love and blessings to you my friend! 😘❤
OK Im intrigued! I did it. I bought a vintage miniature violin bottle of Tabu eau da perfume.! I don't ever buy perfume without trying or smelling first but I wanted to do something spontaneous and took a chance on your review.I mean I love surprises and Witchy brew! How can one resist!
@@MaryGraceFahrun Yes! I love it and have worn it a couple of times. I also bought obsession and love that too. I found also a supplier who sells vintage perfume samples and bought 5mls of tabu from 1952! Wow! does it smell fantastic. Ive only worn florals for years and it was time for something new! Thanks for the wonderful video! I enjoy all of them!
TM is my all time favorite. I've had at least 10 bottles. Nothing compares at any price, except the Versace that was discontinued and Amun that is rarely found.
opium was the first fragrance i ever wore. my mother's coworker gave her a bottle and she gave it to me. i must have been in my early teens. i wore opium for many, many, many years and always got compliments. i don't wear much perfume now, but when i do it's light blue.
I so admire people who are able to distinguish between notes and break a scent down into the components. I love (select) perfume and know what I like and what I don't like, but whenever I read the notes that are in a fragrance, I think, what? That's not what it smells like to me :D Anyways, my vote would go to Tom Ford's Noir for this category.
Loving these videos though it is creating a bit of a spending for spree. Would love to see more on the history and the noses involved! I was once an Oscar de la Renta, Pavlova girl of late I am a Lolita follower.
I love the smell of Opium, but I have such a strong association with older ladies at the Orthodox church that I can't wear it. Scent memory is so powerful!
Have you tried Café? From 1978. Café is by many accounts a lighter, creamier, slightly sweeter, & far cheaper version of Opium. A very spicy-herbal, yet airy, fit-for-summer oriental, courtesy of the same nose responsible for Must de Cartier. Café is now marketed by Cofinluxe. By the way, Café has nothing whatsoever to do with coffee. The name was chosen to express the perfume's effect of improving one's mood & sharpening one's senses--much like a good cup of coffee.
How would you compare Kenzo Jungle l'elephant and Opium? I used to wear Kenzo Jungle but I don't see it around as much and I never tried Opium. I love your fragrance videos btw :)
My witches brew fragrance is l'Imperatrice by Dolce & Gabbana. It is probably nothing compared to the old perfunes though. I was never much ito perfume because of allergies and sensitivities by this one I love. I used to wear Marilyn Monroe eau de toilette in the eighties in a spray bottle with a pink top. It went out of production a long time ago... it was my all time fave.

I forgot to include Samsara as a witchy fragrance I love.
I am in love with this video!! Thank you😊
Thank you, Cheryl! xoxo
I love Must De Cartier, very much a precursor to Obesession .
You smell fabulous, Mark! 🙌💕
I love these videos ❤❤❤
Thanks for sharing! I enjoy wearing my fragrances with intent. Don't see many videos like this...these are very appreciated 🌻

one of my aunts loved Chantilly by Dana too. It was lovely on her.
Tabu's tag line for when they were developing it was 'a fragrance a prostitute would wear'- I love this

I wear obsession and have for near 30 years. Got my first bottle at 16 and have been wearing it ever since. Cartier 'Must Be is very good as well.
I love Dalida too, that's how I discovered the amazing Opium which was created in the year I was born ♥️

I know! I can love a fragrance but a negative association will persist over decades, making it unbearable for me to wear.

I’m am so not into fragrances, but I always thoroughly enjoy listening to you talk about them. Thanks beautiful Grace 😘💖🥰
I'm sure you have a lot to say but i just cannot hear you even with my volume way up.
Youth Dew was my Grandmothers favorite. I keep the bath oil. I don't care for the frankensense in it. I prefer Royal Secret.
